Assembly formed by a cycle wheel means and its axis. The present invention relates to an assembly formed by a cycle wheel hub and its axle.
The assembly according to the invention is characterized in that the hub carries, fixed on it, for example inside it, the rotor of an electric generating machine and in that the axis carries, fixed on it, the stator corresponding.
The accompanying drawing represents, to. by way of example, an embodiment of the assembly which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial sectional view of this assembly; Fi-. 2 is a corresponding cross-sectional view; Fig. 3 is a perspective view schematically showing the development of the magnetic part of the generator machine, in order to illustrate its operation.
In fig. 1 and 2, 1 represents the hub of a cycle wheel, for example a bicycle, and 2 is the corresponding axle fixed to the fork 3 by means of nuts 4. Inside the hub 1, it is fixed a sheath 5 of non-magnetic metal inside which are arranged, parallel to the axis 2. inductor magnets 6 alternating with 'spacers 7 of non-magnetic material. The polarity of these induction magnets alternates from one magnet to the next, as can be seen in fig. 3.
The set of these inductor magnets thus fixed inside the hub rotates with it when the cycle is rolling and constitutes the rotor or rotating inductor of a magneto-electric generator machine used for example for lighting the cycle and whose the stator, which in this case is the armature, is formed as will be described and is fixed on axis 2.
This armature comprises a core 8 made of non-magnetic material fixed on the axis 2 by means of a key 9. It comprises a rolling element 10 formed by a single coil coaxial with the assembly formed by the hub and its axis and arranged around the core 8.
This coil is crossed by a plurality of magnetic circuit elements each formed by a soft iron blade 11 folded over as can be seen in FIG. 3 so as to cooperate with the inductor magnets 6 to create a variable potential difference as a function of time between the ends of the winding of this coil during the rotation of the hub and of the inductor that it carries, around axis 2.
An armature of this type is generally known; we will therefore dispense with explaining its operation in detail here.
However, it is easy to see from fig. 3 that when, as a result of the rotation of the hub, any inducing magnet 6 passes from the position where it is opposite one of the ends of an element 11 to the position where it is opposite the other. end of the same element 11, the direction of the magnetic field inside the element 11 undergoes an inversion, which results in the birth of an electromotive force in the winding 10 of the coil,
as a result of the variation in the flux passing through this coil. The elements 11 are arranged so that the variation of the flow for one of them is in the same direction as for the others, for the same movement of the hub, and consequently is added to it.
The hub is provided at its ends with cheeks 12 screwed onto it and each carrying one of the raceways 13, 14 respectively, with a pair of ball bearings, the other raceway 15, respectively 16 , being carried by an end piece 17, respectively 17a each screwed onto one of the threaded ends 21, respectively 22 of the pin 2.
It will be noted that the generating machine is entirely enclosed in the space limited by the hub and its end faces formed by the cheeks 12. The armature can be made completely. sealed by means of any non-magnetic coating, closing all the interstices that its surface presents, and through which passes the conductor 18 coming directly from the induced coil.
The end of the winding. 10 opposite to that connected to conductor 18 is connected to ground at 19.
20 shows two hoops retaining the ends of the elements 11. A cylindrical sheath 23, of non-magnetic material, around the winding 10. It is on this that the hoops 20 hold the ends of the elements 11.
It should be noted that as a result of the arrangement adopted, the induced winding remains constantly fixed with respect to the fork, so that any sliding contact in the circuit of the machine is unnecessary. This advantage is significant, since a delicate point in the circuit is thus eliminated.
The armature can form a sealed block as indicated above, the winding it carries is completely protected from external agents, so that oil or even water can penetrate inside the hub without affecting the operation of the generating machine.
The cycle lighting machines in use today are driven by the rim of the wheel. They can therefore be easily damaged or stolen, which is avoided here.
In addition, the means used heretofore to bring the rotor into engagement with or out of engagement with the rim are eliminated here, along with the faults of which. they are frequently the source.
In addition, for the same motor torque to be supplied as in current machines, use can be made here of much more powerful inductor magnets than in the latter. A number of poles equal to 40, 48 or more can also be used without inconvenience. In the example shown, there are forty poles, that is to say twenty induction magnets.
These two remarks show that it is easy to obtain an electro-motive force equal to that produced by the lighting machines driven by the rim, while turning. at a slower speed.
Although in the example described, the rotor of the generator machine is placed inside the hub proper, other arrangements could be provided. Thus, for example, in the case of a hub with a brake drum, the rotor can be arranged and fixed inside the drum or inside a part of this hub in the form of a drum and symmetrical to the drum. brake.
The generator machine could also, in certain cases, be placed outside the hub, that is to say in the space included between the hub of the wheel and one of the branches of the fork. bearing the axis of this wheel, it being always understood that the rotor is fixed relative to the hub (without necessarily being fixed directly on itself) and the stator, fixed on the axis.
