Brennstoff Einspritzeinrichtung.

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Fuel injector. Various devices are known for injecting fuel into internal combustion engines. In particular, the method of injecting fuel stored under pressure by relieving the pressure in the fuel line has proven itself. The pressure relief can be brought about without difficulty by the injection pump itself.
It has now been shown, however, that it is extremely favorable if the fuel injection takes place in two stages, such that a smaller amount of fuel is pre-injected shortly before the main injection.
This injection, which takes place in two stages, has not previously been feasible with the aforementioned accumulator injection.
The subject of the present invention now forms a fuel injection device with storage of the fuel in a filling collector and locking of the injection by the fuel pressure in the fuel pressure line. The invention consists in that a closed relief space filled with fuel is provided which, for the purpose of triggering a preliminary,
injection through a temporary partial pressure relief of the fuel pressure line before the full pressure relief of the fuel pressure line triggering the main injection is brought into connection with the fuel pressure line via a connecting channel, the whole thing in such a way that both the pre-injection and the main injection are accomplished with a single piston. The full relief and partial relief of the fuel pressure line can now take place through control channels provided in the pump piston itself.
The complete relief and the partial relief can be controlled by grooves in the pump piston, which are preferably formed at an angle, in such a way that by rotating the piston, both the amount and the time of the main respectively. Pre-injection can be changed.

Finally, when the pump cylinder is upright, the relief chamber can be connected to the suction chamber line in the bottom dead center position of the pump piston so that the relief chamber is completely relieved.
Some exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are now shown in the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 shows a fuel injection pump in section and FIG. 2 shows the piston of a further embodiment.
In the lower part 1 of the pump housing of the injection pump with storage of the fuel in a filling collector, an eccentric 3 is arranged on the drive shaft 2, which acts on the liner 4, which is closed on one side. On the inside of the sleeve 4, the pump piston 7 is held by means of a ring 5 on which the spring 6 lies. The other end of the spring 6 rests on the disk 9 located in the upper part 10 of the pump housing. The spring 6 thus presses the sleeve 4 on the one hand on the eccentric 3 and on the other hand the piston 7 on the lower wall of the sleeve 4.
In the upper part 10 of the pump housing there is a bore 11 onto which the hollow body 12 is placed. Bore 11, together with the interior of the hollow body 12, forms the closed relief space. The piston 7 slides, secured against rotation by a wedge and groove 8, in the body 13. On part of its circumference, the body 13 has a toothing into which the rack 14 engages. The upper part 10 of the pump body has a bore 15 in which the piston 7 slides. This bore 15 is connected to the relief space by a channel 16 and to the suction line 18 by a channel 17.
Finally, there is a bore 19 in the upper part 10 of the pump body, to which the pressure line is connected and which is connected to the bore 15 through the channel 20. The piston 7 has an inclined upper edge 21, a groove 22 and an axial bore 23 which is connected to radial bores 24 and 25.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 2, the groove 22 is replaced by an obliquely running groove 27 which runs only over part of the circumference of the piston 7. Analogously to the groove 27, the groove 28 is formed at the location of the bore 25 in FIG. 1. Finally, a radial channel 26 is also provided.
The mode of operation of the fuel injection pump is as follows: In the drawn bottom dead center position of the piston (suction dead center position) the fuel-filled relief chamber 11, 12 is via the channel 16, groove 22, radial bore 24 and axial bore 23 with the upper part of the cylinder respectively. the bore 15 connected. The channel 17 leading to the suction line 18 is also in connection with the upper part of the bore 15 in this position of the piston. Thus, there is complete relaxation in the relief space, in the bore 15, the pressure and suction lines.
If the piston now begins to move upwards under the action of the eccentric, the relief space 11, 12 is first separated by the groove 22 closing the channel 16. Then, however, the suction line 18 is also closed by closing the channel 17 by the control edge 21 of the piston. The pressure in the pressure line will therefore increase as the piston moves further.
Finally, the piston comes into a position in which the radial piston bore 25 corresponds to the channel 16 and the relief space 11, 12 is thus connected to the pressure line. The relief space is thus brought into connection with the pressure line through a connecting channel.
By keeping this additional space, the pressure in the fuel pressure line will fall until the line pressure has been set in the relief space. So it occurs in the focal
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
substance pressure line a temporary partial relief, which is used to bring about the pre-injection.
Immediately after the pre-injection has taken place, the groove 22 is connected to the channel 17 leading to the suction line and thus the fuel pressure line to the suction line via channel 24 and bore 23. This results in a complete pressure relief in the fuel pressure line, which triggers the main injection. Both the pre-injection and the main injection are thus accomplished with a single pump piston. As can be seen, the complete relief and the partial relief of the fuel line is controlled by control channels provided in the pump piston.
In order that the pressure drop in the fuel pressure line does not occur too suddenly, the channel 24 can act as a throttle opening, for example.
Both the quantity and the time at which the pre-injection begins can be changed as required. The size of the relief space 11, 12 is decisive for the amount of fuel released by the pilot injection. The design of the piston 7 with oblique grooves 27 and 28 that control the complete relief and partial relief, as shown in FIG. Furthermore, by turning the piston 7 by means of the rack 14 to regulate the delivery rate, the time of the pre-injection and also the main injection can be changed or the pre-injection can be switched off altogether.
