B. 500 oder 700 at, anwenden.
Process for the production of cycloheganol. It has been found that cyclohexanol is obtained in an advantageous manner if cyclohexylamine is treated in the presence of lyrogenation catalysts with a hydroxyl-containing compound, optionally in the presence of hydrogen, at an elevated temperature. The hydrogen is used to prevent dehydrogenation of the cyclohexanol formed to cyclohexanone.
The metals of group B. of the periodic table and metallic copper may be mentioned as hydrogenation catalysts, as well as oxidic and sulfidic hydrogenation catalysts. Detailed information on the preparation and composition of such catalysts can be found in the literature dealing with the catalytic preparation of cyclohexylamine from aniline, of aliphatic alcohols from fatty acids, or the preparation of amines from carboxylic acids,
Ammonia and hydrogen or from carboxylic acid nitriles and hydrogen. The catalysts can be used alone or on supports.
The working conditions in the new process are expediently chosen energetically by using the catalysts in a highly active form and working at temperatures between about 160 and 400 C, mostly between 180 and 330 C. If one works in the gas phase, one uses expediently temperatures below 250 C; in the liquid phase it is expedient to work above 220 ° C. The compound containing hydrogyl groups is expediently used in a large excess, e.g.
B. the 2- to 50-fold excess based on the amount of cyclohexylamine applied. As a compound containing hydroxyl groups, which exchanges the amino group of the cyclohexylamine for the hydroxyl group, water is the most important. Alcohols, particularly low molecular weight aliphatic alcohols, e.g. B. Me methanol and ethyl alcohol are suitable.
The appropriate implementation conditions depend on the type of catalyst used. B. also on the throughput rate, and also on the ratio of the starting materials to each other. When choosing the reaction temperature and the residence time, care should be taken to ensure that the formation of hydrocarbons, which is favored by too energetic conditions, is kept to a minimum.
The method can be carried out in the gas phase or in the liquid phase at normal or elevated pressure. Since inert diluents of liquid or gaseous nature can also be used who the. Working at increased pressure, especially when using hydrogen, offers the possibility of maintaining a high hydrogen concentration and thereby accelerating the conversion even when using a large excess of hydroxyl-containing compound.
It is generally sufficient to work at pressures of 10, 50, 100, 200 or 300 at; but you can also use higher pressures, e.g. B. 500 or 700 at, apply.
The process can be designed continuously by, for example, a gaseous mixture of cyclohexylamine, steam and, if appropriate, hydrogen lei tet through a tube or several tubes that are sent with a hydrogenation catalyst. If you work continuously in the liquid phase, you can, for example, cyclohexylamine, which can also be dissolved in an inert solvent, pump one or more times through the catalyst chamber in the same direction as the circulating water vapor, in which the catalyst can also be fixed can.
Very good conversions can also be achieved if the starting material is allowed to trickle over the fixed catalyst and the vapor of the hydroxyl-containing compound, optionally with hydrogen, is passed in countercurrent.
A particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention consists in combining the production of cyclohexanol from cyclohexyla.min in one operation with the production of this substance from aniline by catalytic hydrogenation. Of course, this embodiment of the invention must be carried out in the presence of hydrogen. The implementation conditions are chosen similar to the rest of the Lich as when using prepared cyclohexylamine as a starting material from; Here too, it is expedient to use an excess of hydroxyl-containing compound.
The hydrogenation catalyst must be chosen so that the benzene nucleus of the aniline is hydrogenated under the intended conversion conditions. It is therefore appropriate to use metallic catalysts of group B. of the periodic table. Instead of aniline, one can also start from nitrobenzene, the nitro group of which is easily converted into the amino group under the conditions necessary for the hydrogenation of the benzene nucleus. The use of pressure and higher temperatures, e.g. B. those above 250 C, appropriate.
The parts given in the examples below are parts by weight unless they are. noticed otherwise.
<I> Example 1: </I> A nickel catalyst activated with chromium, zinc and barium, which contains 2 parts chromium oxide, 1.5 parts zinc oxide and 2 parts barium oxide per 100 parts nickel and which is applied to pumice stone, is added <B> 180 '</B> C under normal pressure the vapors of cyclohexylamine and water in a weight ratio of 1: 3 at an hourly rate of 7 g cyclohexylamine per 1 liter of catalyst. The vapors are condensed, the condensate freed from what water and the residue is fractionally distilled.
This gives 1 part of dicyclohexylamine per 4 parts of cyclohexanol. The cyclohexylamine is fully implemented.
<I> Example 2: </I> 10 parts of cyclohexylamine, 10 parts of what; water and 1 part of a chromium-activated nickel catalyst, produced by reducing a mixture of 100 parts of nickel carbonate and 4 parts of chromic anhydride in a stream of hydrogen, are treated at <B> 300 '</B> C in a stirred pressure vessel with hydrogen under a Pressure of 250 at. The mixture is allowed to cool, the catalyst is separated off and the cyclohexanol is recovered by separating off the basic compounds with sulfuric acid.
The yield is 5 parts of cyclohexanol with a yield of <B> 90%, </B> calculated on the converted cyclohexylamine. <I> Example 3: </I> To a mixture of 10 parts of aniline, 30 parts of methanol and 1 part of a copper catalyst (20% Cu and <B> 0.9% </B> Cr203) deposited on silica gel, which is located in a high pressure stirring vessel,
one presses hydrogen in the cold under a pressure of 30 at. The whole thing is now heated to 300 C, whereby a pressure of 276 at is established, then it is left cold and relaxed. Unused hydrogen, which is mixed with methylamine, escapes. The catalyst is filtered off from the Ka and worked on in the manner described in Example 2. In this way, cyclohexanol is obtained in addition to hydrogenation products of aniline in a yield of 82.07o.
<I> Example </I> .4: 10 parts of aniline, 10 parts of water and 1 part of a chromium-activated cobalt catalyst, produced by reducing a mixture of 100 parts of cobalt carbonate and 4 parts of chromic anhydride in a stream of hydrogen, are heated in a stirred pressure vessel to <B> 300 '</B> C, while hydrogen of 250 atm is injected. During the heating, the hydrogen is partially relaxed three times in order to largely remove the ammonia formed from the conversion space.
When hydrogen is no longer absorbed, the mixture is cooled and the reaction mixture is separated from the catalyst. The precipitated oil is dehydrated azeotropically with benzene and the cyclohexanol contained therein is obtained by fractional distillation. The recovered water and the amines obtained during the distillation are fed back into the process.
In this way, 6.5 parts of cyclohexanol are obtained in good yield in addition to cyclohexylamine and dicyclohexylamine. <I> Example 5: </I> Via a chromium and copper-activated nickel catalyst which is deposited on pumice stone, produced by reducing 20 parts of nickel oxide, 6 parts of copper oxide and 1 part of chromium oxide, which are deposited on 73 parts of pumice stone 90 times the catalyst volume of hydrogen is passed every hour at 200 C, the 3
5 volume percent aniline vapor and 25 volume percent water vapor are mixed together. The mixture leaving the reaction space is condensed, the ammonia dissolved in the condensate is expelled by heating, and the hydrogen leaving the reaction space is also freed from ammonia. The liquid reac tion material is evaporated in an ammonia-free hydrogen stream and passed through a second catalyst chamber under the same working conditions. This process is repeated twice more.
The crude cyclohexanol liquefied after the fourth catalyst chamber is practically amine-free. The aqueous portion of the condensate from the fourth space is returned to the first catalyst space. In this way, it is possible to convert the aniline used almost completely into cyclohexanol in a continuous process.
102 parts of crude cyclohexanol are obtained per 100 parts of aniline. <I> Example 6: </I> Over 100 liters of a nickel catalyst carried on pumice stone, which contains 2 parts chromium oxide, 1.5 parts zinc oxide and 2 parts barium oxide per 100 parts nickel. 8000 liters of hydrogen per hour, to which 1500 g of aniline vapor and 6000 g of water vapor are mixed in, are passed at 180 to 190 C. The gas mixture leaving the catalyst is broken down by condensation into liquid crude cyclohexanol and ammonia-free water. The hydrogen is freed from the admixed ammonia and returned to the cycle.
The water obtained during the condensation, which still contains amine, is also used again to convert the aniline, the amount of water consumed being used. The Roheyelohexanol, which still contains what water, is passed with hydrogen under 200 atm pressure in cocurrent through a tower containing a nickel catalyst of the composition described in Example 5. The conversion conditions are chosen so that the hydrogen treatment takes place in the liquid phase.
The crude yelohexanol obtained in this way is fractionally distilled, cyclohexanol being obtained in approximately 95% yield. The amines also obtained are returned to the process again. <I> Example </I> 123 parts of nitrobenzene, 100 parts of water and 10 parts of the catalyst described in Example 2 are heated for 6 hours with hydrogen at a pressure of 250 at 300 C.
After filtering off the catalyst, cyclohexanol can be obtained in 94% yield by distillation of the reaction mixture.
