Le dessin ci-annexé représente schémati quement les phases du procédé suivant l'in vention et un mécanisme servant à le mettre en #uvre. Sur ce dessin: La fig. 1 est une élévation latérale avec coupe verticale partielle d'un appareil simple pouvant avantageusement servir à, la mise en ceuvre du procédé; La fig. 2 est une coupe horizontale faite à peu près suivant la ligne252-29 de la fig. 1; La fig. 2a est une coupe partielle suivant la ligne 2a-2a de la fig. 2;
Manufacturing process of clasps. The invention relates to a method of manufacturing slide clasps. It has already been proposed to manufacture bucket slide clasps, in which the closure elements of each of the series located one opposite the other are constituted by successive turns of a wire wound in a helix with spaced turns. , and as a complementary development to deform the turns of one of the coils from the exactly helical curvature,
so as to constitute elements in the form of hooks operating by being applied in the turns of the other coil and by hooking directly to them. To make the deformed coil, it has hitherto been thought that it is necessary to first manufacture a simple cylindrical coil with a straight wire by ordinary wire winding operations, and then to deform the coils of the coil. by a repression operation.
Two separate operations, involving two manipulations of the material were therefore necessary and, unless the upsetting operation was carried out with care, it happened that the clasp elements thus obtained were not uniformly spaced or suitably in the extension of each other, so that a defective clasp resulted.
The object of the invention is a simple, economical and precise method of manufacturing clasps of the type in which at least a series of elements of the clasp is formed by the successive turns of a spring with spaced turns, each of these turns. being deformed with respect to an exactly helical curvature, so as to form an iron meture element, part of which forms a hook.
This method is characterized by first advancing a length of yarn through an area in which the yarn is enclosed, so as not to be able to undergo transverse bending at the corrugations, after which the yarn is wound up. corrugated in a helix, so as to form a coil with spaced turns. Preferably, the thread is advanced continuously at. through the zone, in which it is wound, then through other zones, in which it cannot undergo transverse bending and where it is then wound in a helix.
To undulate the wire in this way, it is advantageous to give each corrugation a depth substantially equal to the pitch of the coil which is desired to be obtained and also to give the length of the corrugation a value which is a fraction of the circumference of the ser pentin finished.
According to one embodiment of the process, the wire is passed between a pair of toothed cylinders which, preferably, also constitute the cylinders advancing the wire, then to circulate the wire with its corrugations formed by the wire. 'action of the teeth of the cy- linders following a path in which it is enclosed so as not to be able to undergo bending transversely to the corrugations and then to bring the corrugated wire directly into a winding device, constituted, for example, by a conical and threaded mandrel arranged in a hollow cylindrical die, the pitch of the mandrel being. that of the coil which is desired to be obtained and the internal diameter of the matrix being equal to the external diameter of this coil.
The teeth of the cylinders have a shape, depth and peripheral length such as to form the undulations of the desired depth and length, and by using this arrangement the straight wire can be fed in a continuous and continuous manner. without interruption and collect the finished coil at the exit of the die, ready to be cut into lengths suitable for the intended use.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically the phases of the process according to the invention and a mechanism for carrying it out. In this drawing: Fig. 1 is a side elevation with partial vertical section of a simple apparatus which can advantageously be used for carrying out the method; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken approximately along the line 252-29 of FIG. 1; Fig. 2a is a partial section taken on line 2a-2a of FIG. 2;
Fig. 3 is a partial side elevation on a larger scale, showing the appearance of the finished coil obtained by carrying out the process; Fig. 4 is a partial front elevation of a slide clasp having its deformed coil made by the method of the invention.
If we refer to the drawing, we see that I designates the frame of the apparatus. This frame comprises bearings for supporting the shafts 2 and 3, one or both of which are controlled by a drive device (not shown). On these ar bers are respectively mounted cylinders 4 and 5, the periphery of which comprises teeth or undulations, the teeth preferably having a wavy or roughly sinusoidal shape. The teeth of the two cylinders mesh with each other in the manner of gear teeth, but with a clearance approximately equal to the diameter of the wire to be corrugated.
The pitch 7 of each tooth 6 is preferably equal to a fraction of the circumference of the coil to be formed; in the present case, it is equal to one third of the circumference of the finished coil. In addition, the depth 8 (fig. 1) (each tooth 6 is preferably approximately equal to the pitch of the serpen tin to be formed.
The cylinders 2 and 3 rotate in the direction of the arrows in fig. 1 and thus advance the wire W to the left of said figure. The action exerted by the cylinders consists in undulating it, when it passes between them so as to form undulations therein, all arranged approximately in the same plane, which is the plane of the paper of the figure. Immediately after leaving the rolls, the corrugated wire enters a guide channel 9 which is located in an envelope 10 which joins the point near the exit of the wire from the rolls to the winding die.
The horizontal width of this guide channel 9 is approximately equal to the diameter of the wire and its vertical depth is equal to the depth of the corrugations formed in the wire, that is to say, insi qu ' we can see it, approximately equal to the pitch of the coil to be formed. The casing 10 is substantially rigid and hand holds the corrugated wire as it travels from the rolls to the die, so as to prevent it from flexing or deviating from its regular path.
The frame of the machine supports a console 11 having a vertical slide and serving as a support for a die element 12 sliding vertically. The position of this die member along the slide can be adjusted and when in the proper position it is held in that position by a set screw 18. Die member 12 has an elongated worm hole. tical 14 of a diameter substantially equal to that of the coil to be formed. The axis of the hole 14 is slightly offset with respect to the guiding channel 9 of the casing 10, although its axis is vertical and therefore parallel to the plane of the undulations of the wire and very close to this plane.
Just above the die element 12, the frame of the machine comprises a console 15 in which is drilled a ta rauded hole and located in the extension of the passage hole 14 of the die, in this console is screwed the threaded portion 16 of a rod 17 supporting a mandrel and provided at its upper end with a head which allows it to be rotated to adjust its position in the vertical direction. The lower part of this rod 17 has the form of a downwardly conical mandrel 18, comprising an external thread the pitch of which is equal to that of the coil to be formed.
The mandrel 18 tapers downward and ends with a point 19 near the lower end of the cavity or passage channel 14 of the die.
To operate the apparatus, the wire W is advanced between the rolls 4 and 5, which act as drive rolls and at the same time form transverse corrugations in the wire. The corrugated wire advances in the passage channel 9, where it is completely enclosed and its front end penetrates, through a hole drilled in the wall of the die, into the passage channel or cavity 14 of the die and obligatory advance ment to forming chuck 18.
Due to the slight offset of the axis of this man drin relative to the outlet end of the passage channel 9, the front end of the wire comes to meet the peripheral surface of the mandrel more or less tangentially and as the wire is enclosed between the central core of the mandrel, the wall of the pitch channel 14 of the die and the flanks of the adjacent screw threads of the mandrel, it is forced to follow a helical path, descending progressively along the mandrel along its axis and exit through the lower end of the passage channel 14 of the mandrel, in the form of a finished coil 20.
The corrugations formed in the wire as it advances are retained and incorporated into the helical coil. Due to the definite ratio that exists between the lengths and depths of the corrugations formed in the wire and the diameter and pitch of the coil., The corrugations of the successive turns of the finished coil lie directly one above the the other in the longitudinal direction and are all in the same plane; as a result these undulations are spaced with precision in the finished serpen tin and arranged so as to hook correctly in the turns of the other serpen tin of the clasp.
Preferably, there is a cutting device which automatically cuts the coil formed into determined lengths as it exits the die. For example, as shown in fig. 1, a knife C animated with a reciprocating movement, sliding in a guide G is arranged so as to move on a horizontal path just below the lower end of the die. This knife can be actuated, for example, by a cam, not shown, operating in synchronism with the cylinders 4 and 5.
Fig. 4 schematically shows a clasp of the general type to which the invention applies, and which comprises the ribbons or bands 21 and 22 and the slide 23. On the ribbon 21 is fixed a deformed coil 20, manufactured by the method described above, the other tape 22 has a coil 20a, which is an undeformed helical coil.
