In :diesem Falle besitzt z. B.
Nagnetron tube. In the usual form of magnetron tubes, a cathode lies in the axis of a cylindrical anode with two or more slits. This arrangement is only suitable for generating vibrations, but cannot be used directly for external control operation, that is, amplification or frequency multiplication.
It has therefore already been proposed, for the purpose of .der external control, to attach additional electrodes in the discharge space between. The cathode and anode lie and to which the control voltages are fed. However, such tubes have the disadvantage that a large proportion of the electrons on their way between the cathode and anode impinges on the control electrodes and causes both considerable disruptions in operation and a reduction in efficiency.
In order to avoid this disadvantage, it has already been proposed to divide the anode several times and to leave the role of the control and working electrodes to the same anode segments so that the segments are summarized differently in electrical relation to the erection of the control field to erect the useful field.
With this arrangement, the disadvantages of the first-mentioned external control tube do not arise, but the DC voltages of the control and working electrodes cannot be selected at will, since these electrodes are formed by one and the same segments. In order to achieve an optimal degree of efficiency and the greatest possible operational safety, it is very important to let the control and work system work at the appropriate operating point by choosing the correct bias.
The invention relates to a magnetron tube for ultrashort waves ... which, in externally controlled operation, avoids the disadvantages of the above-mentioned arrangements and enables a significant improvement in efficiency to be achieved. According to the invention, the ilagnetron tube provided with a two or more slotted anode has on the two end faces of the:
The cylinder formed by the anode has one side electrode each, which consists of two or more sector plates that are isolated from one another and perpendicular to the cylinder axis. In the following, exemplary embodiments of the magnetron tube according to the invention are explained with reference to the accompanying drawing.
The prop. 1 shows a tube according to an exemplary embodiment of the invention, in which the number of anode segments is, for example, twice the number of sector plates of a side electrode. K is the cathode, A the anode, which consists of four segments.
On both sides of the anode cylinder there are two-slotted side electrodes S , whose sector plates, corresponding to one another, are electrically connected to one another by the connecting bracket V.
If the anode DC voltage, side electrode bias and magnetic field are selected so that no oscillation is generated in the absence of side electrode AC voltages, the electron flow can be influenced to a large extent by applying @VAC voltages to the side electrode parts without the electrons running the risk of being on their Paths between cathode and anode aufzupral len on these control electrodes.
This fact makes: the tube particularly suitable for operation as an externally controlled magnetron tube. For this purpose, according to, egg, -. 2 to the side electrode parts an oscillation circuit 8 ″, and to the anode parts a, oscillation circuit, S '. For what purpose: the four anode segments shown in Fig. 1 are connected in pairs with each other and the anode; oscillation circuit between these connec - connection lines are in place.
The side electrode oscillation circuit is also connected to the center point of the lines connecting the sector plates to one another (V in FIG. 1).
If the control circuit is now tuned to the control frequency, the double frequency can be taken from the anode circuit because of the double number of anode segments compared to the Sehtorplatten a side electrode when the anode pulp is tuned to double the control frequency.
In this way there is a frequency multiplication: which is very desirable in order to achieve the shortest possible heads.
The oscillation mechanism in detail can be explained as follows: As long as the sector plates do not carry any alternating voltages, the electrons rotate around the cathode at a frequency that determines the magnetic field H and the side electrode voltage Y s is. As long as these quantities have such values that no order of the rotating electrons occurs, no vibrations are generated.
If alternating voltages are now applied to the sector plates, the frequency of which roughly corresponds to the rotational frequency calculated from the operating voltages and the magnetic field, the electron circulation can be synchronized, with a certain grouping of the electrons taking place at the same time.
With two-part control electrodes, two opposing electron clouds form, which, like the armature of a Mrechsel current machine, rotate around the cathode within the anode and release energy to the anode through influence. The frequency of the anode alternating voltage is determined, just look at the control frequency and the number of segments of the anode. If the control and anode systems have the same pole pitch, the control and usable frequencies are the same.
If the side electrodes are split in two and the anode split in four, the frequency is doubled.
As long as the side electrodes are strongly negatively biased, no electrons can impact them, so that all of the energy is transferred to the useful field. Only the energy required to synchronize the electron circulation is withdrawn from the control field. In the case of a less negative or even positive: side electrode bias, the control mechanism is still the same per se, only the efficiency of the arrangement drops because: a. Part of the electrons reaches the side electrodes and emits energy there.
It is therefore advantageous to make the negative bias voltage of the side electrodes equal to the control voltage amplitude, so that the side electrodes never become positive with respect to the cathode.
In principle, the function of the two systems (control system and work system) is interchangeable. However, if the length and diameter of the anode cylinder are suitably dimensioned, the electric field of the side electrodes generally has a far greater influence on the electron circulation on the cylinder jacket pieces: the anode. So it would in principle also be possible to use the anode z.
B. only twice, as to divide the side electrodes against four times.
The structural design: of the tube according to the invention is advantageously carried out in such a way: that the anode cylinder is very short, the distance between the side electrodes is small, which on the one hand has the influence of:
of the side electrodes is increased to the electron movement, on the other hand the connecting bracket between the corresponding sector plates is shortened, which in turn results in a shortening of the shortest possible wavelength. In practice, a ratio of length to diameter of the electrode system of 1: 1 or less is possible.
With the magnetron tube described, not only can frequency doubling errei chen, it is also possible to carry out a simple external control without any frequency change, the number of sectors of a side electrode of the number of segments: the anode is the same, as well as a higher multiplication, e.g. B. a quadrupling to make. In: this case z. B.
Each side electrode has two sector plates, the anode, however, eight segments, which in turn are combined in pairs, in that two segments that are symmetrically opposite in relation to the cylinder axis are connected by brackets.
A further increase in the frequency that increases in the tube output is possible if the length of the anode segments is brought into: resonance with: the useful frequency, so that they themselves form part of the resonant circuit. In this case, the anode connection lines and the connecting lines of the anode segments must end at:
the last to be connected. In the figures, only what is necessary for characterization: the invention is shown, everything else has been omitted.
It goes without saying that there must be a magnetic field in the axis of the entire system, and that the electrodes receive direct voltages, which are expediently supplied in a known manner at the center of the short-circuiting bar used for tuning the oscillating circuits. Further on it is of course also "possible, z.
B. to connect the anode segments directly to a radiator. Finally, modulation of the vibrations is also possible by influencing the electrode voltages.
