Anlassvor richteng an Verbrennnngskraftmaschinen.
Starting devices for internal combustion engines. The invention relates to a starting device on internal combustion engines, in which a pinion which can be screwed for meshing is arranged on a longitudinally displaceable screw shaft and connected to the drive shaft by a self-acting friction disc clutch actuated by a press nut.
In a known starting device, a stop is provided on the starter housing which interacts with the shoulders of one of the friction disks of the clutch and prevents all friction disks from becoming frictionally engaged before the pinion engages. In this device it happens that those friction disks that are effective before the pinion engages are overstressed.
This disadvantage is avoided according to the invention in that a movable stop is arranged between the buffer nut and the friction discs, which can 'put against a stationary abutment, the friction discs being supported against a resilient stop.
An example embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing. The three figures show a starting device in section in different positions.
a is a hollow shaft, which is stored at the outer end in a bearing b, which sits in the bearing plate c of the starter and can be displaced longitudinally, while the other end is mounted in the drive shaft d of the starter. The hollow shaft is provided with two threads e and f on the outside. A small pinion g sits on the thread e and a nut h forms the press member of an automatic friction disc clutch on the thread f . The driving part of the clutch is a drum i, which is keyed onto the drive shaft d of the starting device.
A number of friction disks k are provided between the pressing member and the drum. The abutment of the friction disks is formed by a press plate m and a stop ring n on the Ilohl shaft. A spring washer p is located between the press plate m and the drum i . The distance A of the stop ring n from the press plate in the rest position of the starting device is greater than the distance B of the pinion g from the flywheel ring gear q.
A disk r is attached to the bearing cover flange part. Between this disk and an inwardly projecting part s of the end shield, a stop disk t is arranged with a predetermined play. This disk engages with its inner edge u behind the press nut between this and the friction disks. Its purpose is to limit the path of the press nut.
A ring v sits on the screw shaft between the pinion g and the outer bearing. It is arranged in such a way that the hollow shaft is moved by the amount A by the leading pinion. Furthermore, the hollow shaft is provided with a collar zv.
The starting device works in the following way: In the rest position of the starting device, the stop ring n is removed from the press plate m by the amount A. The friction discs are pressed by the spring washer p with slight pressure against the disc t, which rests against the projection of the end shield.
To start the drive shaft d is rotated, for example, by means of an electric motor. The rotation of the drive shaft is transmitted to the hollow shaft a by the friction disc clutch, which is only slightly tensioned in this state. Due to its inertia, the pinion g screws itself on the hollow shaft against the ring gear q. If the pinion saves without interference, it arrives at the ring v and pushes it along with the entire hollow shaft until the ring n has reached the press plate m (Fig. 3). The friction disks are now firmly clamped between the press nut and the press plate m, which can be supported against the ring n.
If, however, the pinion with its teeth abuts against the teeth of the flywheel ring gear as it moves forward (Fig. 2), the following state occurs. The pinion is held. As a result, the hollow shaft screws itself forward in the pinion until the collar w abuts the pinion and prevents further screwing of the shaft. The stop ring n is not yet in contact with the press plate m, so that the friction disks of the clutch are only under the pressure of the spring washer p.
The press nut is screwed against the friction disks on the held hollow shaft. However, it can only migrate until the disk t rests against the disk r. As the press nut moves forward, the spring washer p is compressed. The friction disks are pressed together according to the tension of the spring washer. As a result of the stronger pressure on the friction disks, the clutch can now tear loose the pinion on the flywheel ring gear.
