Anti-slip device for tires. In ordinary non-slip chains with links, the gripping elements on the ground are convex and rounded. Their action is therefore punctual and they do not prevent the wheels from sliding on too smooth or icy ground. This drawback can be remedied by means of non-slip devices having ridges which bite the road surface.
The object of the present invention is a non-slip device for a tire of this nature. According to this invention, this positive device comprises elongated elements having ridges which bite the surface of the road, these elements being arranged in at least two parallel rows along the tread of the tire, the elements of each row being arranged in the direction of their length one behind the other and kept apart from the elements of the other row by spacers con formed so as to contribute to the adhesion of the device to the ground and forming part of the connecting parts assembling the elements of the rows and connecting the rows to one another so as to form a flexible strip at least in the longitudinal direction, this strip being connected,
on either side of the tire, by non-rigid members, with two chains each provided with a tensioning closure, and arranged in the vicinity of the base of the tire, the whole being arranged so that the device mounted on the tire rests on the ground by at least two consecutive transverse pairs of these elements.
The non-rigid connecting members connecting the tape of elements to the side chains can be constituted, for example, by small link chains or by articulated rods.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the anti-slip device for a tire according to the invention having two rows. parallels of elements.
Fig. 1 gives a perspective view of part of this device mounted on the matic tire, FIG. 2 a plan view of this part.
The elements 1 of elongated shape are arranged in the direction of their length in two parallel rows I and II along the tread of the tire. The elements 1 each have a flat face, coming into contact with the road, the outer edges of which form edges 2, 3, 4 and 5. The free edges of the lateral faces of a transverse notch 8 made in this face constitute two other edges 6 and 7 of the element; the edges of the surfaces in contact with the tire of the elements 1 are rounded.
The elements are assembled by means of closed flanges 9, 12, 13, formed by means of circular section rods, and the parts 9 of which located between the two rows each carry a lug 10 directed outwards and whose extremity reaches approximately the level of the plane external faces of the elements. Each flange passes freely through holes 11 through the neighboring ends of two consecutive elements of row I and the neighboring ends of the corresponding consecutive elements of row II. Each middle part 9 of the flanges, on the other hand, cannot pass through the holes 11, because its diameter is greater than that of these holes over its entire length, and it thus constitutes a spacer member.
It goes without saying that this condition could be realized in any other suitable way.
The parts of the flanges external to the rows of elements have the form of handles 12, respectively 13, connected by articulated rods 14, respectively 15 (one can be seen, 14, in fig. 1), to chains 16, 17 respectively, arranged on either side of the tire in the vicinity of the base of the latter (only the chain 16 is shown in part in FIG. 1). These chains are formed by rods articulated with each other by means of rings 18.
Each side chain is provided with a tensioning closure, known per se, which eliminates the need to provide the tape formed by the assembled elements with it.
