Method and device for manufacturing handles, in particular for bicycles. The invention relates to a method and a device for manufacturing handles having a cardboard tube, in particular for bicycles. Such handles have the advantage that they can be attached very easily and securely to the support part, for example the handlebar, because the inside of the cardboard tube is provided with glue, which is an advantage with the known handles of this type, however, disadvantages face. In one of these known designs, the sleeve. covered with a thin layer of celluloid, i.e. about 0.3 to 0.4 mm thick.
Such a handle is easily deformed or cracked. In another embodiment, Bakelite, a plastic hardenable mass, is applied to the cardboard insert by heating and pressing. These handles are brittle and break when hit.
The purpose of the method according to the invention is to avoid the disadvantages of such handles and consists in applying a layer of a thermoplastic, non-hardenable compound to the cardboard sleeve in an injection molding process.
The method he enables the production of resistant handles with simple means and with a short production time. According to the invention, the device for carrying out the method has a mold consisting of a stationary mold half and a movable mold half, the stationary mold half being provided with an injection channel for the thermoplastic, non-curable mass, and the mandrel serving to carry the cardboard sleeve in this way is insertable into the mold,
that here at its tip protrudes into the injection channel.
In the drawing, a device suitable for implementing the method according to the invention is shown schematically, for example.
1 and 2 show the device in two different working positions in longitudinal section; Fig. 3 is a partial cross section of the same. 2 is the mandrel provided with the tip 2 ', 3 the stationary and 4 the movable mold half, the former being provided with the injection opening 5 for the thermoplastic, non-curable mass. A tubular ejector 6 slides on the mandrel.
The method for producing the handles can be carried out with the device shown, for example in the following way: The cardboard tube 1, which is closed at one end except for a centering opening, is pushed onto the mandrel 2 in such a way that the tip 2 'passes through the centering opening gnaws out (Fig. 1). The mandrel 2 carrying the sleeve 1 is then brought into the right stationary mold half 3 until the mandrel tip 2 ′ protrudes into the injection channel 5 of the mold half 3.
Then the left, movable in the direction of the mandrel axis mold half 4 with the tubular ejector 6 sliding on the mandrel 2 is moved from left to right into the position shown in Fig. I, in which the mold is closed by both mold halves 3, 4 lie against one another, and the end opposite the injection channel 5 is closed off by the right end wall of the ejector 6.
The heated thermoplastic mass, for example based on cellulose acetate, such as "Urlit" or "Trolit", is then injected from a container (not shown) into the continuously cooled mold 3, 4, so that the cardboard tube 1 surrounding cavity 7 is filled with this mass, which connects to the cardboard tube and hardens after about 12 seconds.
By moving the mold half 4 with the mandrel 2 to the left, the mold is then opened (Fig. 2), where the cardboard tube 1 provided with the sprayed-on layer 8 is taken out of the mold and the ejector 6 remains against the mandrel 2 is thrown off the mandrel. The process is then repeated in the manner described for the production of the next following the handle, etc. In the opening in the right end wall of the handle, through which the mandrel tip 2 'protruded during spraying, a plate made of any suitable material is used as a conclusion. for example metal, attached.
