Akkumulator.
Accumulator. The present invention relates to an accumulator.
In the battery according to the present invention, the cathode consists of a completely amalgamated carrier, e.g. B. a fully amalgamated lead carrier, preferably before a large surface plate, while diluted sulfuric acid and a metal sulfate, z. B. zinc sulfate is used. Any of the known anodes, for example a lead super oxide plate, can be used as the anode.
Tests have shown that when such a battery, for example containing zinc sulfate, is charged, the entire cathode is completely covered with a zinc coating. This precipitated zinc is chemically pure and is not attacked by the sulfuric acid because the formation of local elements is excluded. The resulting solution cathode is stable in the electrolyte used and the inconveniences that occur with the known zinc cathodes are avoided by the present design.
Compared to the previous lead cathodes, the plate obtained in this way has a considerably larger capacity: the increase in capacity is, for example, about 30 to 350 /,.
If one of the known lead peroxide plates is used as the anode in conjunction with the cathode described, a higher glemm voltage than before is obtained because the discharge takes place at an average of around 2.4-2.5 volts. The weight of the new cathodes can be significantly lower, as the following example shows: Normal minus plates of the Varta Type Go, 22 R show the following weight: Middle minus plate 620 g, end plate 470 g.
A minus plate according to the invention, regardless of whether it is a middle or end plate, weighs, for example, only about 265 g with a plate thickness of 2 mm. Technically, however, it is possible to reduce the thickness of the panels by half without reducing their capacity or service life.
Since the capacity of the new cathode is much higher than that of a plate of the same size of any of the known anodes, the weight of the accumulators can also be significantly reduced by adapting the size of the cathodes to those of the anodes.
The new panels can be manufactured in one operation by punching. The subsequent treatment is very simple, whereby the production of the new cathodes is considerably cheaper than that of the previously known plates.
Instead of zinc sulfate, other suitable metal sulfates can also be used. For example, if you use cadmium sulfate and sulfuric acid instead of zinc sulfate in the electrolyte, you get a solution cathode consisting of amalgamated lead carrier and deposited chemically pure cadmium. In addition, you can add the elec trolyte additives that increase the conductivity, such. B. Ammonium sulfate. Expediently, substances are also added to the electrolyte which influence the removal of the metal during charging in such a way that a dense structure is obtained.
Substances that are suitable for this are, for example, boric acid and glycerine individually or a mixture of both substances. UNDERCLAIM "1.
