Hochdruchmetalldampflampe.
Zweckmässig ist also die Anordnung der Elektroden derart, dass die Elektrode, die in einem gegebenen Augen- blick die Rolle der Anode spielt, an jenem Teil von den Elektronen ;
Die Elek troden bestehen zweckmässig aus je einem Wolframsta.b von etwa 0,5 mm Durchmesser; die Stäbe sind zweckmässig mit Bariumoxyd überzogen;
High pressure metal halide lamp. A well-known drawback of metal vapor lamps with fixed: electrodes is that their glass bulb is close to the electrodes:
shows a blackening in lying areas. In view of this phenomenon, efforts have hitherto been made to design the metal vapor lamps in such a way that those parts of the balloon which are primarily concerned with regard to the light emission are spared this blackening as far as possible.
This was achieved either by accommodating the electrodes in separate chambers, or by choosing the dimensions of the discharge tube in such a way that the blackened areas relate to the entire surface to be considered with regard to the radiation , were relatively small.
This leads to such large dimensions that the production, especially of metal halide lamps, in which the vapor pressure is significantly higher than 1 atmosphere during operation, is associated with difficulties for reasons of strength.
The method mentioned in the first place, namely placing electrodes inside. of separate, chambers, has against the- ignition voltage of the lamps; it increases so that separate ignition devices were necessary for ignition at normal mains voltage, and has even made it impossible to use these lamps at operating voltages lower than 220 volts.
In general NEN: you must with lamps where the discharge in a relatively narrow space, z. B. in a tubular balloon, is going on, expect the ignition voltage to increase well above the operating voltages.
The cause for this is to be sought in the electrostatic charges that accumulate near the electrodes on the walls of the discharge space. -The use of separate ignition devices makes operating and production costs more expensive.
A common mistake of the lamps mentioned so far was that both the placement of the electrodes in chambers and the larger dimensions increased the cooling surface of the lamp, so that the high vapor pressure required for economical operation and favorable coloration of the light was only achieved with larger ones Units (around 50 watts) could be achieved.
The invention makes it possible to remedy all of these deficiencies. The arrangement and design of the electrodes and the discharge space can be chosen so that, on the one hand, the wall charges do not hinder the ignition, i.e. the use of separate ignition devices is not necessary, and, on the other hand, the surface, based on the volume, the firmness takes into account consideration of the situation accordingly.
The blackening can also be prevented by the structure according to the invention, namely by the structure according to the invention of at least one electrode of the lamp. This electrode consists of two parts, one of which is activated, e.g.
B. with active material - with a material with a small electron work function - eats coated. This part is heated by the other part of the electrode - which is not coated with active material, i.e. not activated, directly heated by the discharge - by thermal conduction or by thermal radiation.
When the discharge lamp by alternating current. is heated, this means that each electrode must be a cathode at one moment and anode at another moment, with the activated part of the electrode playing the role of the cathode. Now this part has to be heated so strongly that the temperature is sufficient for electron emission, but the evaporation of the electrode material causing the blackening does not yet occur.
It is therefore expedient to arrange the electrodes in such a way that the electrode, which plays the role of the anode at a given moment, is on that part of the electrons;
should be taken that is not coated with the activating, relatively volatile material.
This can be achieved through a certain mutual arrangement of the electrodes or through their construction, in such a way that
that the electrodes are facing each other with their non-activated part or that the non-activated metallic part surrounds the activated part at a certain distance, the metallic part allowing the electrons to enter the discharge space unhindered,
however, the material particles causing the blackening are prevented from occurring.
It is useful that in a lamp with 10 watts of power, the light output of which reaches a value of 35 to 40 lumens per watt, the preferably spherical discharge chamber has an inner diameter of 5 to 6 mm and an outer diameter of? up to 9 mm. The electrode spacing of this lamp for a mains voltage of 110 volts is about 2 mm.
The electrodes each consist of a tungsten rod with a diameter of about 0.5 mm; the bars are expediently coated with barium oxide;
the coating is expediently produced by the decomposition of a cataphoretically applied barium carbonate layer, namely by heating, under the action of which the barium carbonate decomposes into carbon dioxide and barium oxide.
1) The electrodes are expediently surrounded by a tungsten filament, the inner diameter of which is about 1 mm and which was wound from a wire 0.1 mm in diameter with a pitch of about 0.2 mm.
The ignition of the lamp after the end of the normalization process customary with electron tubes is expediently carried out at a voltage of 110 volts alternating current, without auxiliary devices. A corresponding choke coil is expediently used to limit the discharge current.
In order to reduce thermal losses, the lamp is expediently mounted in an evacuated, transparent balloon.
Various electrode designs of the lamp according to the invention are shown as examples in the drawings.
In Fig. 1, 1 is the piston made of difficult-to-melt special gas whose largest dimension is less than 20 mm and the smallest dimension is greater than the distance between the ends of the electrodes.
The two power supplies 2 and 2 'are melted into the flask and are available, for example, from Moly bdän. The electrodes' 3 and 3 'are made of tungsten spirals, which are wound on the cylinder 4 and 4' ge coated with active material Ma, whereby they are shielded against the surrounding part of the piston wall. The flask contains noble gas with a mercury pressure of 25 mm and a drop of mercury 5.
FIG. 2 shows an embodiment of the electrodes in which the active part is shielded from the surrounding part of the bulb wall by a cylinder, which can be used to prevent blackening even more effectively. 2 means the power supply. The metallic hollow cylinder which effects the shielding and is open at one end is denoted by 6. The active material 7 is located inside it.
In Fig. 3, the rod 8 is shown coated with active material. The coating is labeled 7. 9 is a metallic hollow cylinder which corresponds to the cylinder 6 according to FIG.
In FIG. 4, an embodiment is shown in which the rod 10 is coated with active material. The shielding takes place. By, the tungsten spiral 1.1, which on a rod 10 un indirectly surrounding; .Spirale 12 rests. Since in all described and drawn embodiments; If the non-activated parts of the electrodes are closer to one another than the activated parts, the former are heated directly by the discharge.
The active material is only heated by conduction or radiation from the non-activated part of the electrode.
