Process for the production of high pressure lamps, in particular incandescent lamps. The present invention relates to a method for producing high-pressure lamps, in particular high-pressure incandescent lamps. In the manufacture of incandescent lamps, efforts are made to equip the lamps with an incandescent body that can be heated to the highest possible temperature without being used up. Therefore, nowadays, tungsten is usually used as the material for the incandescent body, which is very difficult to melt and at the same time also has a very high evaporation temperature.
However, it is desirable to heat the incandescent body to temperatures at which the vapor pressure is so significant that even tungsten, if special measures are not taken, would vaporize very strongly. In order to avoid this, it has already been proposed to surround the incandescent body with a gas atmosphere, which reduces the evaporation of the incandescent body material. The course can be thought of as follows: At a certain temperature, the incandescent body material, e.g.
B. tungsten, the Be strive to send out a number of molecules per unit time, which is the same, regardless of whether the incandescent body is in an evacuated or in a gas-filled room. However, there is a considerable difference in the evaporation rate in the evacuated room compared to that in a gas-filled room.
This difference is due to the fact that a metal molecule, when it leaves the incandescent body in an evacuated room, continues its path in a straight line until it is inhibited by a lamp bell or the like and settles there to form a metal layer, while in a gas-filled space a large part of the metal molecules that are about to leave the incandescent body or have just left it

<tb> lamps <SEP> in <SEP> a <SEP> very <SEP> effective <SEP> and <SEP> in a casual <SEP> way <SEP> can be <SEP> locked <SEP>.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the gas pressure in the lamp during the melting operation is at most equal to the surrounding pressure, which can possibly be higher than the atmospheric pressure.
The invention can be carried out with advantage in the following way: After the lamp has been switched to the recipient of an akuumlinntlle elv: by Ar @ .: cliliel @ en, a certain amount of the filling gas is introduced into this. The lamp is then all-cooled. whereby the gas in the lamp is condensed or frozen. so that the pressure in the apparatus is lower than the surrounding atmospheric pressure, and possibly only a few minutes Hg.
The fusing of the magnifying glass can then be carried out in a known manner, since the pressure of the outer atniospheres, as soon as the glass has softened, presses them together in a vacuum-tight manner at the connection point. Later, when the lamp is reheated, the pressure increases as the gas evaporates.
By regulating the amount of filling gas introduced into the apparatus and subsequently condensed in the lamp, the (gas pressure can be squeezed out at will.
If you want to calculate the pressure in the lamp, you should use the volume of the recipient. as well as knowing the volume of the lamp filling the task. Using the general law of state of gases, the following equation can be set up:
EMI0002.0048
EMI0002.0049
where <SEP> means:

<tb> P., <SEP> = <SEP> the <SEP> gas pressure <SEP> ini <SEP> recipient <SEP> after <SEP> the
<tb> Separation <SEP> of the <SEP> lamp.
<tb>
If <SEP> the <SEP> cooling <SEP> and <SEP> the <SEP> thereby
<tb> caused <SEP> condensation <SEP> so <SEP> is driven <SEP> that P ;; can be neglected, the equation is simplified in the following way:.
EMI0003.0002
One can therefore use a lamp of the desired pressure P :; obtained by filling the receptacle with an amount of gas of the correspondingly measured pressure P, The cooling of the lamp can be carried out, for example, with the help of liquid air. The temperature achievable in this way is completely sufficient, u. a. for the production of high pressure lamps filled with krypton xenon.
In contrast, when manufacturing high-pressure lamps filled with argon, the use of liquid nitrogen is preferable. An even more effective cooling effect is obtained with liquid hydrogen, but due to the explosive nature of the gas, precautionary measures must be taken. Instead of hydrogen, liquid neon or another gas that is difficult to condense can therefore be used.
If you want to supply a gas mixture of a certain composition to the lamp, it may sometimes be necessary to introduce the various gases into the lamp one after the other and to condense them.
The invention can be used with advantage when the evacuation and gas filling of the lamps is carried out in automatic machines operating in stages (in continuous production). The cooling moment is expediently distributed over several stages so that a pre-cooling is obtained and only afterwards is the final cooling step taken. What is achieved here is that on the one hand the capacity of the automatic machine is considerably increased as a result of the greater machine speed, and on the other hand the lamp can be cooled with considerably lower losses.
It goes without saying that the last-mentioned circumstance is of great importance, since the aim is to reduce the losses as far as possible in the part of the cooling device intended for the lowest temperature, since this part causes the highest operating costs. If continuous cooling is carried out, the known countercurrent principle can be used in whole or in part.
The lamp can be cooled in a simple manner by inserting the lamp into a Dewar's vessel which contains the desired coolant.
The method according to the invention can be used to advantage in the manufacture of lamps which are evacuated and gas-filled in so-called "forks". In this method, a number of lamps are connected in parallel to the recipient.
The difficulty of achieving the same pressure in all lamps can be overcome by providing a constriction or the like in the line that connects each of the lamps with the recipient, whereby a ratio to the flow resistance of the remaining apparatus of great flow resistance he will hold. This resistance is dimensioned so large that when several lamps are cooled at the same time, the pressure equalization in the recipient takes place so quickly that the different lamps receive a uniform filling.
However, the invention is not limited to the method described above, but the mode of operation can be varied in various respects.
For example, it is not necessary to cool the filling gas in the lamp itself, but rather the gas can be introduced into the lamp in liquid form, for example. In this case, the gas is expediently condensed in a special cooling system, and the condensed gas is fed to the lamps, if necessary, through a line insulated according to the Dewar's vessel principle.
The amount of gas supplied can be regulated, for example, by "sniffing" a certain quantity from the pipe into the lanipe. Who determines the lamp finitely from a gas mixture. ter @usarinuene tzun g should be provided. the appropriate quantities of the gases in question can be introduced into the lamp in liquid form.
In particular: if hydrogen is to be used for all-cooling the filling gas. the mentioned method can be used with advantage 1) #; - ground. In the worst case, the cooling system can be arranged in an explosion-proof chamber. thereby eliminating the risk of accidents.
In the method described, it can be useful to keep the lamp cool in order to prevent or reduce the gasification before the blowout.
However, the gas can also be fed to the lamp in this way. that a substance is introduced into the lamp which contains the Ga 'in a chemically or mechanically bound state. After closing the lamp, the gas is released, e.g. B. by heating. Examples of such substances are nitrogen compounds. z.

In the foregoing, the application of the invention is described first in the case of high-pressure lamps. It should be emphasized, however, that the invention also offers the same advantages in the manufacture of Linderer high-pressure lamps, tx-ie z.
B. High pressure discharge rolling. As an example of a substance that is suitable for generating a high gas pressure in the manufacture of such pipes, lithium hydride (purple) should be mentioned, which gives off hydrogen when heated.
