Die Unschädlichmachung der Härtebildner kann prinzipiell auf zweierlei Weise erfolgen: a) dadurch, dass dem Wasser solche Stoffe zugegeben werden, die mit (dem Härtebildner schwer- oder unlösliche Verbin dungen eingehen, die Härtebildner also durch Fällung entfernen;
Process for rendering the hardness components harmless in washing processes. The invention relates to a method for rendering the hardness components harmless in washing processes and is characterized in that washing is carried out using alkali polyphosphates.
It is known per se to use phosphates as detergents and cleaning agents, as well as for softening water. Since when using orthophosphates and pyrophosphates the lime BEZW. Magnesium salts are precipitated and the water softened in this way continues to be used as boiler feed water or for washing and cleaning purposes.
Another way to make the lime and magnesium salts contained in water un harmful is that you add water-soluble metaphosphates to the water, which have the property of keeping the lime and magnesium salts in solution, respectively. if soaps have already been used and lime and magnesium soaps have failed, they will dissolve again.
In principle, the hardness components can be rendered harmless in two ways: a) by adding substances to the water which form poorly or insoluble compounds with the hardness component, i.e. remove the hardness components by precipitation;
b) by adding substances to the water that keep the hardness constituents in solution and continue to prevent that insoluble compounds of the hardness constituents, such as lime and magnesia soaps, are precipitated during the washing process and the like.
The new invention takes the last-mentioned route. It has been shown that the lime and Dzagnesia salts contained in water can be kept in solution by adding polyphosphates, respectively. can bring already failed hardness builders back into solution.
Such water softened with polyphosphates are particularly suitable for washing and cleaning purposes.
The advantage of the polyphosphates over the metaphosphates is that the polyphosphates are neutral or neutral in aqueous solution. react weakly alkaline, while the metaphosphates are acidic in nature. However, this behavior is particularly important for washing purposes; as it is known that soaps can hardly or not at all in an acidic medium.
The new method can be practiced in such a way that either the water is softened by adding the polyphosphates and then used for its intended purpose or else that known detergents and cleaning agents, in particular soaps and similar preparations,
mixed with alkali polyphosphates and used in a known manner as a detergent and cleaning agent. In this case, the water used can, but does not have to be, softened for itself.
Protection is only claimed for the present process insofar as it is not a processing process for textiles that is suitable for the textile industry.
