H6Ps01s+2Na2S+Ca0=Nas[Na2CaPo01s]+2H2S+Hs0.
2. (NH4)sPs01s -f- 2Na2S + Ca0 = Na2[Na2CaP801s] --i-- 2(NH4)2S + 2NHs + 1120. 3.
Na6P601s + 20a0 + 2H20 = Na2[CasPeOls] -J- 4Na0H.
Process for descaling ashed hides and skins. It is known that the decalcification of ashened hides and pelts is carried out either with inorganic or organic acids such as hydrochloric acid, formic acid, lactic acid or the like, or with ammonium compounds. Both types of decalcification have certain N @ disadvantages.
The use of acids is linked to swelling phenomena and loss of substance due to acidic protein degradation, while the ammonium salts, under the action of the alkaline liming agents lime and sodium sulphide, ammonia and / or. Release sulfur ammonium, which unnecessarily prolong the alkaline protein hydrolysis.
It has now been found that chemical dissociable compounds which contain pentavalent phosphorus and oxygen in the anion are pronounced decalcifying agents. Of these compounds, the higher polymeric metaphosphoric acids are particularly suitable. Polyphosphoric acid and its alkali and ammonium salts - as effective decalcifying and dulling agents with an extremely mild effect that is gentle on the skin protein.
Hexametaphosphoric acid are particularly suitable for this purpose. their salts. In contrast to the well-known decalcifying agents, the polymeric metaphosphate anions form complexes that bind the calcium in non-ionized form, so that subsequent conversion of calcium salts that have remained dissolved in the skin material, for example with the ammonium sulfate in the pickling preparations or with the vegetable tanning agents, is excluded.
In addition, the neutral metaphosphates, which are always formed during the decalcification process, even have a certain pickling effect themselves.
The polymeric metaphosphoric acids as well as the ammonium metaphosphates are converted into the complex sodium calcium metaphosphates as a result of their reaction with sulfur sodium and lime, while the alkali metaphosphates immediately render the calcium oxide or calcium carbonate or lime soaps (for naturally fat skins) harmless.
The following reaction equations should mainly be used for the reactions presumably occurring with the hexametaphosphate anion 1. H6Ps01s + 2Na2S + Ca0 = Nas [Na2CaPo01s] + 2H2S + Hs0.
2. (NH4) sPs01s -f- 2Na2S + Ca0 = Na2 [Na2CaP801s] --i-- 2 (NH4) 2S + 2NHs + 1120. 3.
Na6P601s + 20a0 + 2H20 = Na2 [CasPeOls] -J- 4Na0H. The usual decalcifying agents can also be used together with the metaphosphate anions, which is particularly useful when ammonium or alkali metaphosphates are used.
Examples: 1. Ashed calfskins are rinsed thoroughly with soft water and then decalcified and blunted with a solution of 3.5% hexametaphosphoric acid of pelt weight in soft water for 24 hours.
2. Ashed sheepskins are well watered and decalcified with 2.5% ammonium hegamaphosphate and 10/0 ammonium chloride of pelt weight for 24 hours in a short liquor, rinsed and tanned without further stain.
3. Beef pelts from the lime are washed and then decalcified with 31 / o sodium hexa-metaphosphate and 1.5% formic acid of pelt weight for 24 hours.
In this way, according to Examples 1 and 3, pelts with a neutral reaction and an extremely gentle nature are obtained, while according to Example 2, a slightly ammoniacal pelt of an already pickled character is obtained. Instead of hexametaphosphoric acids or their salts, polyphosphoric acids, polyphosphates or other polymeric phosphoric acids, in particular octo- or dodecametaphosphoric acid, respectively. their salts are used.
