La. fig. 1 est une vue en élévation d'une articulation à l'état redressé; La, fi-. 2 montre la, même articulation partiellement repliée; La fi--. 3 montre un train d'atterrissage muni d'une articulation dans la position d'atterrissage; La fig. 4 montre ce même train dans une position partiellement repliée; La fig. 5 montre un autre exemple d'un train d'atterrissage à escamotage latéral, mais .dans lequel l'articulation est placée sur la barre qui contient l'amortisseur; La fig. 6 montre un train d'atterrissage suivant l'invention .dans lequel l'escamotage s'effectue d'avant en arrière;

Retractable landing gear for aircraft. A whole series of constructions are already known which make it possible to fold or straighten an articulation constituted by two articulated bars forming part of a retractable landing gear for an airplane. However, in all these known devices, the ef fort intended to fold or. straightening the broken leg is provided by a device such as a screw or any other connected organ, on the one hand, using a system of connecting rods with the two parts of the leg, of which it is intended to vary the relative position and, on the other hand, with a frozen part of the aircraft such (read the wing or the fuselage.
With such a device, the landing gear can obviously only be retracted in one well-determined direction. Any change in this direction, which may be required, for example, by changing the location of fuel tanks, engines, etc. would determine a total modification (the landing gear and its links with the aircraft controlling the folding and unfolding of the leg. In addition, in most of the known devices, it is necessary to provide cables or chains, for controlling the retraction passing over pulleys or toothed wheels and having only very reduced operating safety.
Likewise, in a large number of such constructions, it is necessary to make the point at which the legs of the train are articulated to the airplane movable, which further complicates the construction and makes the operation of the train even less safe. As it is essential that the constituent parts be as light as possible and occupy as little space as possible and that they finally function in an absolutely safe way, it is clear that the existing constructions of the type which comes from being quoted does not give complete satisfaction.
According to the present invention, these defects are remedied in an extremely simple manner: the retractable landing gear for an airplane consists of three legs, each linked with the airplane. One of these legs is formed by two bars articulated between them and the point of articulation of these bars is fixed to one of the two parts (udder or cylinder) of a vellum, which can be hydraulic or pneumatic. In the landing position, when these two bars are brought into direct alignment, that is to say the leg is straightened, the jack is perpendicular to them.
Rods are articulated at their ends, on the one hand, @ to the second part of the jack (cylinder or piston), on the other hand, to the bars of the broken leg on either side of their articulation axis and symmetrically to this one. It follows that the jack is only mechanically connected to the broken leg, apart from the flexible conduits for supplying the energy necessary for the operation of the jack, and that the control device is entirely independent for other parts of the aircraft.
These rods are used to transmit the force of the jack intended to act on the broken leg, either to: fold it up or to re-erect it.
In a preferred embodiment, the two bars of the broken leg are brought, in the landing position, slightly beyond their direct alignment and are immobilized in this position using suitable connecting rods. The force of the jack will, in this case, be calculated in such a way that it is able to make the two bars pass neutral, that is to say the position of direct alignment to then fold the leg. .
It is easy to understand that, when the airplane takes off, the landing gear operates normally, since this operation could easily be verified before the take-off. In order to avoid any accidents, it is therefore sufficient to be assured that no damage whatsoever will be able, in flight, to prevent the train from exiting once it has entered. The failures that can be envisaged are those determined by the very type of the control device.
In particular in the case where the latter is constituted by a cylinder supplied with pressurized oil, these failures may result from irregularities in the supply of the cylinder with oil, which could cause the risk of not seeing the cylinder. train get off at the right time.
It is therefore possible to provide for possibly adding to the train a safety device intended to force the train to exit in the event of damage to the control device.
In addition, when the gear is out, it must be absolutely avoided that it cannot fold up while the airplane is rolling on the ground. In the case of a train control device consisting of a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder, it may happen that, the pressure in the cylinder of the cylinder having fallen for some reason, the shocks are passed through. the broken leg position .du center and thus determine the folding of the train.
One embodiment of the present invention comprises for this purpose a positive locking device which engages when the train is fully extended and makes accidental folding absolutely impossible.
The unlocking which must precede the operation of raising the train is controlled by the pilot, the locking occurring automatically as soon as the train is completely unfolded.
Finally, it is essential, in the case where a locking device is provided, to organize the unlocking command in such a way that it is necessarily carried out before the folding of the leg intended to cause the raising of the train. landing wise, so as to avoid the deterioration thereof, which can be caused if the cylinder tended to break the leg before the unlocking took place.
Use will be made with advantage of a particular device making it possible to carry out the two successive commands in the desired order, using a single lever.
The invention will be better understood with the aid of the accompanying drawings in which there is shown, by way of example, on the one hand, an articulation and, on the other hand, a certain number of landing gears. retractable according to the invention.

Fig. 19 shows a control device using a single lever of the locking device and of the train control device; Figs. 20, 21 and 22 show soh6matically, in three different positions, the device of FIG. 19, and Les. fig. 2.3 and 24 show two alternative embodiments of part of the control device of FIG. 19.
Referring first to Figs. 1 and 2, we see, at '2 and 3, two articulated rods, between them along an axis 1. These rods are intended to pivot about the axis 1, in the direction of the arrow in FIG. 2, so as to fold up at the desired angle.
In the example shown, the control device causing the folding of the connecting rods is constituted by a pneumatic cylinder 10, comprising a piston Mounted, the end 8 carries a yoke to which are articulated two connecting rods 6 and 7, of which the : other ends are articulated at 4 and 5 respec tively to rods "2 and 3.
When the compressed fluid is admitted inside the cylinder, the piston 9 is deployed relative to the body 1.0 of the cylinder and the rods 6 and 7 pull on the points 4 and .5 causing the rods 2 and 3 to pivot around of axis 1 in the direction of the arrows in fig. 2.
It is easy to understand that given the direction in which the effort is exerted, the device never presents a dead point, its action being absolutely sure.
In addition, the device is excessively simple. It does not include any system of additional connecting rods, the control organ being reduced to a single cylinder.
As indicated above, it must be understood that the invention is in no way limited to a particular embodiment of the joint, nor to any particular control member such as a pneumatic jack. For example, the ends of the control rods can be attached to the control member in another way and so on. On the fi-. 3 to 9, a number of embodiments of the landing gear have been shown.
Referring first to Figs. 3 and 4, we see a landing gear, in which the retraction movement occurs in the lateral direction as seen in FIG. 4. The device comprises a broken plug 11 hinged towards its middle, at 12, on either side of a jack 13, the piston 1.1 of which drives at its end, at 15, two double rods 16 fixed at two points. 17 of the strut. The strut 11 connects a fixed point 18 of the airplane to the lower part of the undercarriage, at a point 19, so that, by its folding, the strut drives the undercarriage which can rotate around the fixed axis 20.
The operation of the device is easy to understand. When the compressed fluid is sent into the cylinder, the piston comes out, the points 15 move by driving the double rods 16. These pull, on the points 17 which rotate around the points 12, thus breaking the strut, since lines 15-17 are outside point 12. Point 19 approaches point 18 and the train to be retracted folds up by turning around axis 20, as can be clearly seen in) a fig. 4 until the two branches of the strut 11 are placed against the jack.
It will be noted, in this example, that the landing gear does not undergo any significant modification with respect to the ordinary non-retractable landing gear. It suffices to organize- the upper articulation of the landing gear, so that it can pivot about a fixed axis such as 20, and constitute one of the arms of the support in the form of a broken strut provided with a control device such as a cylinder 13.
A landing gear organized according to the invention is therefore excessively simple and inexpensive. In addition, the landing gear comes to occupy its landing position under the simple action of the weight of the wheel in such a way that any risk of seeing the gear blocked in the retracted position when landing is avoided. - rissage. On the other hand, the retraction occurs in an absolutely safe manner, given that the device does not have dead points and that the force exerted on the knee to fold it up is exerted in the optimum direction to obtain a efficient and safe operation. This particular feature can also be used to obtain a secure locking of the gear in the landing position.
In fact, the two rods can be allowed to exceed the alignment position by limiting their displacement by stops, so that, in the landing position, the gear is absolutely rigid. To retract it, the device makes it easy for the rods to pass through neutral and fold up the gear.
With reference to the. fig. -5, we see another embodiment -d'un train retractable table in which the wheels are folded laterally. In this example, the folding, instead of being done inward, is done outward. It can also be seen in this example that the bar replaced by a broken strut, instead of being one of the side bars as in the example of FIGS. 3 and 4, can be constituted by the bar 21 which contains the damper. In this figure, we see at 22 the point of articulation to the plane of the bar 21, at 23 the point of articulation ide the bar 21 to the bar 24, and at 25 the point of articulation to the plane of this bar 24.
In fig. 5, the landing position is indicated in solid lines and, in dotted lines, the position of the gear when it is retracted and is placed in the wing. The 0 axis of the articulation comes to occupy the 0 'position, the whole of the train coming completely escarnoter: in the interior of the wing.
In fig. 6 and 7, there is shown another embodiment of the retractable low landing gear, applicable for example to multi-engine airplanes and in which the gear retracts not laterally but from front to rear. The wheel can be mounted on the landing gear in any convenient way.
In the example shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, this wheel is mounted using a fork 26 which contains the shock absorber (s), the bar 27 being constituted by a broken strut and being provided with a folding device 28, according to the invention. On the fi-. 6, we have also shown in solid lines the wise landing position and, in dotted lines, the camotage position.
We can also see in this figure, at 29, the spindle of the wheel now occupying, when the wheel is folded, position 29 '. And we see in 30, 31 and 32 the three oscillation aids fixed by. which the train is mounted on the plane.
On the fib. 8 and 9, another embodiment of the landing gear is shown, in which the retraction occurs from rear to front. In this example, the wheel is mounted, as can be seen from FIG. 9, not with the aid of a fork, but in overhang.
It must be understood that, regardless of the type of retraction. the wheel can be mounted at will, depending on the case, using forks or cantilevers, the examples: given being intended only to show the various possibilities - of my size which can be combined at will with various types of escalatable landing gear.
It will be noted in particular, in the example of FIGS. 8 and 9, that the broken strut replaces the bar comprising the shock absorber, while, in the example of FIGS. 6 and 7, this broken strut replaces one of the other two bars of the train.
In fig. 8, we can still see, in. full lines, the. position of the landing gear and, in dotted lines, the position of this gear when it is folded. The articulation axes are represented respectively at 33, 34, 35 and 36, the axes 34, 35 and 36 being fixed bone axes relative to the aircraft.
In fig. 10 and 11, 101 designates the broken leg of a folding landing gear of the type described above. 102 denotes the wheel of this train, 1 () 3 the leg fitted with the shock absorber and 104 and 1i15 are the pivot axes of the legs 101 and 103.
The train control device is constituted in this example by a hydraulic cylinder (or matic tire) 106, the piston of which can be seen at 107. In this embodiment, the automatic ejection or unfolding of the train, in the event that the pressure of the oil (or any other fluid) supplying the cylinder lacks at the desired moment, is ensured by two groups of bungee cords 108 and 1-09 fixed, on the one hand, on the head of the jack, respectively at 110 and 111, and, on the other hand, respectively at points 1.12 and 1113 of each half-leg,
these two groups of Sandows being disposed in such a way that their tension determines, for all the positions of the train with respect to the points of articulation, a couple tending to bring the two half-legs into alignment. This action is provided by two spacers 114 and 115, which keep the bungee cords away from the articulation points 0 ,. when the leg is bent, as can be clearly seen in fig. 11.
The operation of the device is easy to understand: when the pressure in the jack drops, the tension of the bungee cords, which always tends to bring the two half-legs back into alignment, consequently to unfold the train, is no longer balanced and causes ejection of the train by lowering the wheel. This action occurs until the .two half-legs come up against, after having passed the neutral point, on the cylinder head 16, that is to say until the train is in its final landing position.
In fig. 12 and 13, the device intended to take out the train is made in a different way and, in this example, this positive device is constituted by a telescopic strut, elastic 1,1-7, containing a spring 118 tensioning always at. bring the train back to the unfolded position.
One of the ends. -of the strut is articulated at 119 on the wing .de the aircraft, and the other at 120 â one of the half-legs of the leg 10-1. The operation of the device is easy to understand: when the train is folded under the action of the jack 106, the point 120 turns around the joint 104, and this movement brings the strut 117 into the position, of fig. . 13, by reducing the length and compressing the spring 118. The assembly is held in the position of FIG. 13 by the oil pressure in the cylinder.
If the pressure is lacking in this jack, the force of the spring 1-18 no longer being balanced, the strut 117 @se! Relaxes and brings the train back into the position, for a good landing, that is, say in the position of fig. 12.
As has been said above, it is also possible, in certain cases, to provide a device intended to lock the gear in the landing position, independently of the jack and in an absolutely positive manner. According to the embodiment shown in FIGS. 14, 15, 16, 17 and 1.8, this locking is carried out using a part 121 (fig. 14 and 15) which will be referred to hereinafter as a lock.
This part slides along the axis -du cylinder, and acts in combination with -two lugs 122 provided on the ends of the two half-legs. The latch is biased towards the locking position by a spring 123.
The device is completed by a control which can be carried out in any appropriate way (pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic control, etc.) actuated from -the pilot's seat and intended to unlock the device so as to release the leg- free to fold up before actuating the cylinder 106 which controls this folding. - 'In the example shown in, fig. 14 and 115, the unlocking control is performed using a cylinder 124, inside which a piston 125 moves, the cylinder 124 being supplied with a fluid such as, for example, compressed air, arriving inside the cylinder through a duct 126.
The piston 12: 5 controls the lock 121 by means of a system of connecting rods 127, 128 and 129. The outer parts 131 of the pins 122 are rounded so that the lock is automatically lifted by the pressure of the pins 122 at the bottom. end of the movement of the ashes of the train, when the outer part 131 of these lugs comes into contact with the outer part 130 of the hooks of the latch 121. The locking is then done automatically, when the two lugs abut against the head 106 of the jack, under the effect of the spring 123.
As mentioned above, FIG. 14 shows the locking position, and fig. 15 the unlocked position. In these figures, we can clearly see the position of the transmission 127, 128 and 129, as well as the piston 12.5 in both cases.
In the example deus fig. 14 and 15, the ordering organ directly @ the unlocking is constituted by a cylinder 124 carried by one of the half-legs. In the example of fig. 17 and 18, the member which controls the unlocking is placed at the end of the jack and acts directly on the latch 121, via a key 132. In this example again, the control device is constituted by a cylinder 133, inside which a piston 134 moves, the cylinder 133 being supplied with compressed air (or any other fluid) by a duct 135.
In the example of FIG. 1.8, a spring 123 'is placed outside the cylinder, between the head 13.6 of the device and the lock 121.
In fig. 17, the spring 123 "is placed inside the cylinder 133 itself, between the end of the piston 134 and the head 136.
Fig. 16 is a perspective view showing a practical embodiment (the locking device, of the type shown schematically in Figs. 14 and 15.
As stated above, it is essential that the train be unlocked before it is possible to act on the device intended to raise it. For this purpose, a positive device is provided in which a single lever determines, in a desired order, the control of the locking device and that of the lifting of the train.
According to the embodiment of FIG. 19, the single control device is constituted by a handle 137, carrying at its end a handle 138, and moving in an opening 139 allowing the handle to receive two perpendicular movements between them. The movement in the direction of the arrow Fl aims to .dé lock the train, and the second, in the direction of the arrow F2, to determine the folding or unfolding of the latter.
In the example shown, the successful operations are as follows: assuming that the lever is in the notch before opening 139 (see fig. 20), the first movement in the direction of arrow F 'of tiné out the lever 137 of the front notch and bring it to the front end of the longitudinal part, determines the dis train unlocking.
The second movement in the direction of the arrow F \ bringing the lever from the front end to the rear end of the longitudinal part of the opening 189 ends the lifting of the train, sending the oil into the cylinder 106 , and the third movement, intended to bring the lever to the bottom of the rear notch of the opening 139 (see fig. 22) releases the lock.
The movement in the opposite direction causes first of all the raising of the lock, then the lowering of the train and, finally, the locking of the latter in the lowered position.
Figs. 20, 21 and 22 show, schematically, the positions of the components, respec tively when the train is lowered and locks rusted (fi ,: 20) during the lifting during which the lock was first raised to allow movement lifting gear (fig. 21) and finally the lifting gear (fi ;. 22).
The handle 1137 is articulated around two perpendicular axes X1 and X2, which produces a cardan joint. A set of two connecting rods 140 and 141 respectively controls the distributor 142 of the main cylinder 106 and the valve 143, causing the unlocking. The various components are arranged in such a way that, during the movement of the lever in the direction of the arrow F'1, which controls the locking and unlocking, the lever has no action on the connecting rod 140 which controls the main cylinder 10.6, this result being ensured by the cardan joint 144.
Likewise, during the movement of the lever in the direction of the arrow F2, the latter has no action on the connecting rod 141, thanks to the .a ball and socket fixing 145 which determines this connecting rod.
The operation of the device is as follows: assuming that the lever is in the position of FIG. 20 which corresponds to the outgoing train, in order to raise the train, the handle is described with the opening 139, which successively obliges it to make: a transverse movement in the direction of the arrow Fz of FIG. 19, which acts only on the valve 143 by opening the valve 146, which determines the admission of the compressed air inside the cylinder 124 of FIGS. 14, 15 and 16 or the cylinder 133 of fi-. 17 and 18, and causes a sliding of the lock 121, unlocking the train.
During this movement, the lever rotates around the axis X ', pushing the connecting rod 141 and, through the intermediary of the lever 147, acting on the piston 148 of the valve 143.
The movement in the direction of the arrow F2 of the fi. 19 no longer acting on the connecting rod 141, but only on the connecting rod 140, by a pivoting about the axis X2, this movement brings the rod 149 and, consequently, the double piston 150 of the distributor 142, from the position of fig. 20 in which the oil arriving in the distributor through the conduit 151, passes into the conduit 152 communicating with the lower part @du cylinder 106, which keeps the piston 107 retracted,
in the position of FIG. 22 in which the oil is sent into the conduit 153 communicating with the upper part of the cylinder, so as to determine the output of the piston and, consequently, the raising of the train. -In fig. 21, the piston 150 can be seen in the intermediate position, in which the oil, arriving through the conduit 151, does not communicate with any of the departures 152 and 153.
On the. fig. 23, we see a shape of opening 139 similar to that shown in FIGS. 19 and 22. In fig. 24, we see another form of the opening 139, in which the handle can be immobilized in the intermediate position in which the piston 150 is in the position of FIG. 21. During the -displacement in the direction of the arrow, which has just been mentioned, the connecting rod 141 is not actuated, and the locking system remains in the unlocking position.
The last movement, in the direction opposite to the arrow F ', without acting on the connecting rod 140, returns the connecting rod 141 to the initial position and the safety device in the position of. locking.
The reverse movement is done in the same way, by first putting the control in the unlocked position, then the distributor 142 in the descent position and, finally, the safety device - in the locked position, which allows its automatic engagement when the train arrives. race background.
As can be seen in FIG. 19, 20, 21 and 22, the handle 138 of the joystick is preferably given the shape of a wheel, the purpose of which is to allow the pilot, without looking at the joystick, to immediately realize that he has in hand the -dispositif which controls the lowering or raising of the landing gear. Indeed, the pilot may be required to perform a maneuver intended to actuate his landing gear at a time when he does not have all the necessary peace of mind to look with his eyes for the desired lever. The shape of the handle prevents it from being mistaken and allows it, by a simple reflex, to perform the expensive operation.
