Nozzle intended to deliver a gaseous fluid in a chamber brought to high temperature. The object of the invention is a nozzle for delivering a gaseous fluid into a chamber heated to high temperature. This nozzle could, for example, - be used to deliver air into the hearth of a gasifier, in particular of a light gasifier for a motor vehicle, or even to polish the air flow in the hearth of an oven or boiler.
In nozzles of this kind, already known. it happens that the head of the nozzle or the part of this nozzle which adjoins the orifice through which the gaseous fluid escapes, the combustion air, for example, is subjected to rapid wear due to the temperature too high. to which the entire nozzle is subjected, the heat not being evacuated quickly enough. The result in particular is that the slag sticks to the head, which further contributes to increasing its temperature and causing its destruction, by oxidation and corrosion.
In order to remedy these drawbacks, the nozzle according to the invention is established at least for the most part of a metal which is a good conductor of heat and arranged so that the heat which it absorbs at its hottest end can distribute themselves rapidly in the body of the nozzle, with the aim of ensuring that the temperature of said nozzle remains sufficiently low to prevent its deterioration by melting or corrosion.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of the nozzle according to the invention.
Figs. 1 to 3 of this drawing show respectively in longitudinal section, in cross section and in end view a first embodiment of the nozzle; Figs. 4 and 5 show respectively in longitudinal and transverse section a second embodiment of the nozzle.
The nozzles shown, intended to debit air in a gasifier, each comprise, on the one hand, a part made of metal which is a good conductor of heat, red copper or (read nickel bronze, for example, this part constituting the body 1 of the nozzle and forming the major part of this nozzle and, on the other hand, a head 2 made of metal very resistant to oxidation, for example of nickel steel, arranged at the end of the nozzle where this oxidation is the most dangerous, that is to say at the end comprising the air outlet orifice and whose temperature is the highest.
These two elements 1 and 2 are assembled so as to be in contact with each other over a fairly large area, for which they are assembled by a fitting 3 and they are held in place by screwing, or edge tage by example.
The nozzles shown each comprise an inner tube 5 made of metal which is a good conductor of heat, fixed to the head 2 and arranged coaxially with the body 1 of the nozzle. An annular space is thus formed between the internal wall of the body 1 and the tube 5, the latter serving to improve cooling by increasing the surface swept by the air before escaping from the nozzle. In the space formed between the tube 5 and the body 1 is arranged an intermediate wall forming a baffle and dividing this space into two capacities crossed in opposite directions by the air, so that the path is thus increased by run by the air.
This wall is formed by a tube 6 closed on the side of the inlet of the nozzle by a separating partition 7.
The air, entering through the inlet of the nozzle, first comes into contact with the inner wall of the body 1, then with the outer surface of the tube 5, to finally exit following the arrows 8, through this tube interior 5.
The tube 6 is held in place by a screw 9 passing through the drilled bottom 10 closing the inlet of the nozzle and held on the body 1 by wing nuts 11. The air intake openings made in this bottom 10 are covered with at least one wire mesh 13.
In the nozzle shown in fig. 1 to 3, the inner wall of the body 1 and the outside of the tube 5 are provided with fins 14, from the foundry for example, increasing the heat exchange surfaces licked by the air. The tube 6 could also be provided with fins for the same purpose.
In the nozzle shown in fig. 4 and 5. metal tubes 15 which are a good conductor of heat are arranged in the space between the inner wall of the body 1 and the tube 5. These tubes 15 are screwed into the head 2 of the nozzle and are split, the tube 6 constituting the intermediate wall forming a chi cane engaging in the longitudinal slots 16 of these tubes 15.
During the operation of the gasifier, to which the nozzles shown are applied, the head of the nozzle is subjected to the very high temperatures developed by the combustion chamber, while, as known, the body of the nozzle is generally immersed in fuel not yet in the state of combustion.
The heat absorbed by the head is quickly distributed in the body of the nozzle and in the other elements of this nozzle, thanks to the high conductivity of the metal which constitutes them.
The air which sweeps the body 1 and the other elements, in particular if its speed of circulation is chosen sufficiently high, exerts an intense cooling action.
Thus, it can establish a permanent regime such that the temperature of the head dies much lower than that from which it would be feared rapid wear by melting or oxidation.
Of course, the air circulation speed will have to be established in each case, depending on the total air flow rate required for the operation of the gasifier and of the engine which it supplies. There is a real compromise between, on the one hand, the need for a circulation speed high enough to produce efficient cooling and, on the other hand, the need for a sufficiently low speed, however, so as not to exert a significant pressure drop.
The number of nozzles can also be varied; if one has, for example, a gas generator with two suitably adjusted nozzles and if one wishes to increase the flow rate, a greater number of nozzles will be provided to maintain the circulation speed at a suitable value .
