Process for the production of a polynuclear ring ketone. The subject of the present patent forms a process for the preparation of a polynuclear ring ketone, which is characterized in that an ester of dihydrocholesterol, such as. B. the acetic acid, propionic acid or benzoic acid ester, treated with an oxidant, separates the neutral oxidation products, leaves a ketone reagent to act on the latter after liberation of volatile compounds and unchanged starting material and splits the reaction product with hydrolytic agents.

forms colorless crystals of F. <B> 174-1751 </B> and shows a rotation of [a] D = + 87 <B> 1 </B> in 1Methanoi. It can be recrystallized from aqueous alcohol or ethyl acetate gasoline. Their semicarbazone melts at 261 to <B> 26201 </B>, their oxime at <B> 185-1860 </B> and their acetate at <B> 96-970. </B>
Suitable oxidizing agents are e.g. B. chromic acid, permanganate and the like. As ketone reagents, semicarbazide, thiosemicarbazide, hydroxylamine, amino guanidine, neutral or basic substituted acylhydrazides, such as.
B. the chloride of trimethylammonium acethydrazide, phenyl - hydrazine, diphenylhydrazine, mono- or dinitrophenylhydrazine, phenylhydrazinesulfonic acid, etc. can be used.
The new ketone is close to the sex hormones; it should find therapeutic use.
<I> Example: </I> 84 parts of dihydrocholesterol acetate, dissolved in glacial acetic acid, are added dropwise at 95 with stirring with a solution of 123 parts of chromium trioxide in water-ice, 3% (1: 5). After several hours of heating, the excess chromic acid is destroyed by adding methanol and the solution is strongly concentrated in vacuo. The residue is diluted with water and extracted with ether. The acidic components are removed from the ethereal solution of the oxidation products with caustic soda, whereby a sparingly soluble sodium salt is deposited.
The oily, neutral products are freed from volatile components by steam distillation or by heating to <B> 100 '</B> (12 mm). After ingestion in alcohol, unchanged dihydrocholesterol acetate crystallizes out. The alcohol-soluble fraction, either directly or after a preceding fractional distillation, whereby the fraction boiling up to about 2500 (1 mm) is collected separately, heated with an alcoholic solution of semicarbazide and the precipitate separated out cold washed with ether and boiled with water .
The semicarbazone melts after recrystallization from alcohol at 261-262 0. The semicarbazone C22HacOsNs of the ketoacetate C2113203 is present.
After heating the semicarbazone with a mixture of equal parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid and glacial acetic acid, with aqueous-alcoholic sulfuric acid or with a concentrated oxalic acid solution and optionally saponifying the cleavage product by boiling with alcoholic lye, it is taken up in ether, washed out and expelled Ether. The new oxyketone CioHao02 is obtained in beautiful crystals by recrystallizing from aqueous alcohol or from ethyl acetate gasoline.
