4-15% Fe und 87-63% A1 um- schliesst, liegt in dem mit 2 bezeichneten Feld des Zustandsschaubildes der Al - Cu - Fe Legierungen, das begrenzt wird durch die drei Punkte: Al;
AIsFe (59% A1 + 41 % Fe) und T (ternäre Verbindung aus etwa 48'/o A1 -+- 44% Cu -+- 8 0/ o Fe)
Machine part for sliding movement. Alloys of aluminum copper-iron are known as materials for machine parts with sliding motion (such as bearing shells, bushings, guides, pistons and the like). These known alloys are in triangle 1 between the points Al, Al? Cu and T of the concentration triangle shown in the drawing.
The alloys in field 2, which theoretically consist of primary A1aFe, of secondary peritectic (that is a ternary compound (T) that lies between the points AlaCu and AI8Fe of the quasi-binary cut AlaCu-AlaFe) and of tertiary precipitated aluminum-rich matrix with aluminum mixed crystals and eutectic A1sFe,
were (apart from the usability of such alloys with a Cu content of up to 40% and an Fe content of up to 6 / o for special casting purposes, namely as casting alloys for the production of cast pieces that should "shrink" very little when solidifying ) previously regarded as technically unusable.
The investigation of alloys containing 9-22% Cu, 4-150% Cu, 4-150%, Fe and 87-63% Al, with regard to their suitability as plain bearing material, has shown that, contrary to expectations, they have favorable sliding properties and are particularly well tolerated they, without eating, a very high specific load, which is a multiple of the load permissible with conventional plain bearing materials.
This surprising effect can be explained by the fact that the diffusion processes inhibited during the solidification of the cast alloy inhibits the formation of the above-mentioned peritectic and instead the formation of a ternary eutectic from aluminum mixed crystals, A120 and the ternary compound of Al, Cu and Fe is favored.
As the running tests showed, this ternary eutectic apparently has the property of holding the oil film in such a way that it is not destroyed even at high specific bearing pressures.
Characteristic of the new material for machine parts with sliding movement is the content of primary crystals of AlsFe as hard support crystals in a basic mass of ternary eutectic. The area highlighted in the drawing by hatching, which according to the invention as a material for machine parts with sliding movement usable alloys with 9-22 0/0 Cu,
4-15% Fe and 87-63% A1 is located in the field marked 2 in the state diagram of the Al - Cu - Fe alloys, which is delimited by the three points: Al;
AIsFe (59% A1 + 41% Fe) and T (ternary compound from about 48 '/ o A1 - + - 44% Cu - + - 8 0 / o Fe)
. An alloy with about 15% Cu, for example, has proven to be a particularly suitable material for plain bearings.
about 6% Fe and about 79% Al. A plain bearing material of this composition is far superior to a plain bearing material of a similar composition, but with a lower iron content, especially with regard to the load capacity.
For example, it has been established through tests that a bearing made of a material of the above-mentioned composition can withstand a specific load that is more than twice as high as a bearing made of an alloy also containing 1511 / o Cu, but only 2% Fe and 83% Al was made.
The eratarization process mentioned, which takes place after casting the alloy and influences the structure formation, can be conducted in a manner known per se by stronger or weaker heat dissipation so that the structure most expedient for use as a plain bearing material results, for example by choosing co- killing cast.
