Process and system for drying bulk goods that are sensitive to overheating. The invention relates to a process for drying bulk goods that are sensitive to overheating, for example sol chem, which in a very water-containing state easily felt together or baked together, but is more porous or solid at a lower water content. Such goods are, for example, many plant products, such as grass, clover, alfalfa and ivory and other seed products, but also certain animal products that are suitable as food or feed.
The previous methods of drying such products can mainly be divided into two groups, pneumatic drying and sheet drying, both of which use warm gases or air as the desiccant. According to the first type, the dry material is stirred up by the desiccant and carried along in a relatively fast flow until the material has reached the necessary dryness, after which it is separated from the gases.
According to the second type, the drying material is moved forward in a relatively thick layer as a load in a suitable drying device, and the drying agent is brought into contact with it.
A majority of processes work according to this principle, of which those are likely to have proven to be the best in which the desiccant is mainly directed from bottom to top across the loading layer. Particularly good results are achieved if the material to be dried is simultaneously introduced to a mixing movement, as is the case, for example, in a rotating drying drum.
When using these types of drying in the company, of course, certain rules have emerged as to how drying should be carried out in order to achieve the best work result.
Pneumatic drying, for example, has to work with the desiccant at relatively high speeds in order to be able to take the dry material with it and, under certain circumstances, apply it due to the dynamic pressure of the gases. In view of the fact that the dimensions of the drying device must be kept within moderate limits, the treatment time is very short. It follows that pneumatic drying is best suited for goods that easily give off the water content; this is the case partly with goods with a high water content, partly with very finely chopped goods.
Because the drying agent should also be used for conveying in pneumatic drying, the amount of drying material per unit of time must be in a certain proportion to the amount of drying agent per unit of time.
If the water to be dried is kept low, it is therefore very difficult to achieve satisfactory thermal economy with pneumatic drying, because the water given off by the material to be dried is not sufficient to saturate the relatively large amount of desiccant. In the case of a high water content, however, particularly good economic viability is evidently achieved.
However, even when treating material with a high water content, drying in a pneumatic manner is particularly difficult to carry out if the water content is to be reduced to a relatively low value.
The drying capacity of the desiccant in the last part of the drying process, if the final drying is to take place, is so greatly reduced by water absorption in the earlier parts of the process that particularly sensitive devices and precise monitoring of the operation are required to approximate to achieve the desired dryness.
When treating non-uniform goods, a fine shredding process must also be included in the process in order to achieve even final drying at all. This insertion causes special costs.
If, when treating goods with a high water content, drying does not need to be carried out so far that the goods approach the hygroscopic state, then drying can be carried out in a pneumatic manner because of the high temperature of the drying means with very good economy, whereby at the same time, because of the short treatment time, the risk of overheating is low.
With layer drying, you have greater freedom of choice for the temperature and speed of drying, because the desiccant does not have to convey the material to be dried. Process of this type, in which the desiccant is passed in a stream across the material to be dried, are distinguished by the ease with which the state, temperature and speed of the desiccant can be regulated depending on the state of the material to be dried; At the same time, it is economical even with low water contents.
of the dry material by choosing the layer thickness so that the path of the desiccant through the dry material is always long enough to be able to use its drying ability.
Processes that work in the latter way have surpassed all others both in terms of economy and in the fact that the drying process can be monitored, so that a uniform product of the desired dryness results. This is especially the case when the drying machine is taught a mixing movement at the same time.
This is because this provides a guarantee that all parts of the material layer are treated uniformly.
However, these latter methods have the disadvantage that if the dry material is inclined to be felted together tightly or to sammenzubacken, which is the case with a high water content, in most cases the drying agent is difficult to press through the material layer. This difficulty is particularly evident at high temperatures of the desiccant, because the density of the gases is then so low that their dynamic pressure is insufficient.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a method for drying bulk material sensitive to overheating, in which the dry material is treated effectively and with the best possible economy in all parts of the process and at the same time the course can be monitored and controlled.
The drying process according to the invention is characterized in that the entire drying process is carried out in two separate stages through direct contact between the dry material and warm gases.
This is done in such a way that the dry material is introduced into a warm gas stream in the first stage and is carried along by it in order to then, after it has been separated from the gas stream mentioned, in the second stage -due to the end of drying that warm gases of a lower temperature than that of the first gas flow are passed across the dry material spread out in a layer.
The method according to the invention is therefore a combination of pneumatic drying and layer drying according to the cross-flow principle, so that the advantages of the two methods known per se are used while their disadvantages are avoided. ; So the material in the most humid condition can be treated with gases of very high temperature without difficulty or danger and the main part of its water content can be removed from it in a short time in an economical manner.
The short treatment time and the fact that the drying does not need to be carried out further than until no free water remains in the dry goods, be that the risk of overheating of the dry goods is low despite the high temperature of the gases.
In addition, by using combustion gases of high temperature and therefore with a low air content, the risk of oxidation of the substances that tend to do so in the dry can be reduced considerably. Furthermore, the material to be dried can be dried to the desired degree of dryness with the best possible economic efficiency and with good monitoring of the drying process, as the input temperature of the desiccant is established at every moment of the last part of the process:
of the dry goods and the amount of desiccant can be adjusted so that it is used to the best possible extent. Finally can. Even those goods can be handled with ease, which give off the last part of their water content only slowly, without the material having to be finely ground up.
In order to obtain a uniform product, it is of course of certain advantage if the good is taught a mixing movement during the final treatment in the second stage. The easiest way to do this is to treat it in a rotating drum, in which the hot gases are directed across the feed.
The invention further relates to a plant for carrying out the method according to the invention. This has two drying devices, namely, on the one hand, a drying device provided with a feed device for moist slurry, in which the drying device is introduced into a warm gas flow and carried along by it, and on the other hand, a cross-flow dryer consisting of a circulating. Drum.
In this, warm gases are directed across the dry material, which is spread out in a layer, is conveyed forward and coming from the first drying device.
A device, for example a cyclone or the like, is switched on for separating the dry material coming from the first drying device from the subsequent gas flow between the first drying device and a feed device of the second drying device.
An embodiment of such a system is shown schematically on the accompanying drawing in two views perpendicular to each other. By means of the blower 1, the dry material is introduced well into the hopper 2 and from there it is driven into the housing 4 by a screw conveyor in the channel 3. The housing 4 is flowed by warm gases coming from the fireplace 5 and the pipes 6.
The gases take the material out of the housing 4 and are driven through the drying channel 7 by means of the fan 8 and further through the pipe 9 into the cyclone 10, in which the material to be dried and the gases are separated. so that the goods are directed through the opening 11 and the G_ a.se at 12 above. The fan 8 can ent neither, as shown, be arranged in front of the cyclone or behind it. The first stage of drying takes place in the drying device described.
From the opening 11, the dry material falls well onto the screw conveyor 13, which conveys the material into the cross-flow drying device 14, in which the second drying stage takes place.
This drying device consists of a rotating drying drum provided with openings in the wall, to which warm gases at a lower temperature than that of the gas flow of the first stage, for example cooled flue gases from the fireplace 5, are fed through the connection box 15 by means of the fan 16 , be directed. The flue gases flow from the connection box 15 through the openings in the wall into the drying drum.
These openings are covered by the material to be dried, and as a result of the rotation, the material is set in a mixing movement. while the gases flow through it in cross flow. The finished, dried material emerges at 17.
Those parts of the dry material which, when introduced into the gas flow in .dem housing 4, cannot be carried along directly by the gas flow because of their weight. but fall down into the lower part of the housing 4, are caught by the wings 18 of a rotor 1-9 arranged in the housing (indicated by dashed lines in FIG. 1). The runner sits on the shaft 20.
The material caught by the wings when the rotor is turned around is thrown back up into the gas flow. This is repeated in a cycle until the different parts of the goods have suffered such a weight loss due to drying.,: That they can be carried away by the gas flow.
In both drying devices, the dry goods by means of a gutter in a food 3 BEZW. 18. arranged conveyor screw. This and that. Feeding channels are dimensioned in such a way that: the dry well forms a plug against the wall of the channel during its feeding movement and thus prevents as much air from entering through the feeding channel as possible.
