Fourreau protecteur pour livres. L'objet de l'invention est un fourreau protecteur pour livres pouvant s'employer, en particulier, pour les livres brochés.
Ce fourreau, comportant un dos destiné à recouvrir le dos du livre à protéger et deux parties destinées à recouvrir au moins par tiellement les faces latérales de celui-ci, est caractérisé par le fait qu'il est rigide, de manière à pouvoir se substituer au livre lui même dans une bibliothèque, et par le fait qu'il est conformé -de manière que dans la bibliothèque il présente un aspect ressem blant à celui d'un livre relié.
Le caractère de rigidité ,du fourreau selon l'invention fait donc que l'on ne peut s'en servir pour la lecture, le livre, dans son four reau, ne pouvant être ouvert. Le fourreau pourrait aussi être coloré d'une façon distinc tive dans le but que l'on puisse, dans un ensemble de fourreaux, employer des four reaux d'une même couleur pour des livres d'une catégorie déterminée et ceci dans le but de permettre la distinction immédiate entre - des livres de diverses catégories. Le fourreau pourrait aussi être pourvu .d'un au tre signe distinctif dans- le même but.
Le dessin ci-joint montre, à titre d'exem ple, quelques formes d'exécution du fourreau selon l'invention.
La fig. 1 montre la forme la plus simple, consistant en une pièce rigide recourbée en <B>U,</B> de manière à former un dos 1 et deux parties 2 destinées @à recouvrir les faces la térales -du livre à protéger 3. Le dos est conformé de façon à représenter le dos d'un livre relie.
Ce fourreau peut être, par exem ple, en matière plastique moulée, telle que du celluloïde, de la rhodoïde, de la bakélite, de la pollopase, etc. Il pourrait aussi -être, par exemple, en acier, en métal chromé, peint ou émaillé, en carton, en ébonite, en cuir, en peau, en bois plié, plaqué ou contreplaqué, en bois sculpté, etc. Le fourreau pourrait aussi Hêtre recouvert de papier; d'étoffe, de soie, de peau, etc. Le dos pourra comporter une ou plusieurs ouvertures, permettant de voir si le livre est ou n'est pas dans le fourreau.
Le fourreau représenté à la fig. 2 pré sente un dos conformé de façon à ressembler au dos d'un livre relié. Ses parties destinées à recouvrir au moins partiellement les faces latérales du livre sont plus .larges en bas qu'en haut. Le bord libre 4 de ces parties suit une courbe qui pourrait aussi présenter une \forme ornementale .quelconque.
Le fourreau représenté à la fig. 3 pré sente des parties latérales 5 ne recouvrant pas complètement les faces latérales du livre, ces parties sont rectangulaires, l'un des grand côtés de chacune .étant formé par l'arête du dos. Ces parties latérales sont donc de même forme que celles de la première forme d'exé- cution, mais plus étroites. Le dos du four reau est conformé -de façon à ressembler au dos d'un livre relié.
On pourrait aussi prévoir une des parties destinées à recouvrir les faces latérales du livre avec un bord droit parallèle au dos et l'autre avec son bord correspondant découpé à volonté.
Le fourreau pourrait; pour protéger le livre de la poussière, présenter en outre, en haut, une partie destinée à recouvrir la tran che -du livre. On pourrait, par exemple, constituer un - fourreau comme celui de la fig. 2, mais avec la partie large des côtés en haut et la partie étroite à la base, les bords supérieurs des côtés étant réunis par une quatrième face, protégeant la tranche du livre.
Les parties du fourreau destinées à re couvrir les faces latérales du livre peuvent être en tous points d'égale épaisseur, comme le montre la section de la fig. 4, ou encore diminuer d'épaisseur du dos vers le bord extrême, comme à la fig. 5, cer qui donne plus d'élasticité au fourreau et permet, dans certaines limites, d'y serrer des livres d'épais seurs. variables:
Les parties du fourreau des tinées à recouvrir les faces latérales du livre pourront ne pas être parallèles et être dispo- sées de façon - devoir être écartées pour l'in troduction @du livre dans le fourreau auquel on donne- une élasticité suffisante pour per mettre cet écartement. Pour lui donner une plus grande élasti cité, les parties du fourreau destinées à re couvrir les faces latérales du livre pourront être reliées au dos par un bourrelet 6, comme représenté à la fig. 6.
Quoiqu'on puisse évidemment imprimer ou graver des titres sur le dos du fourreau, il est préférable .d'agencer celui-ci de façon que l'on puisse le munir d'un titre ou autre indication interchangeable.. Les fig. 7 et 8 représentent deux fourreaux ainsi agencés.
Dans le fourreau représenté à la fig. 7, le dos conformé de façon à ressembler au dos d'un livre relié est à double paroi 7, 8. Ces parois forment un logement, dans lequel peut être enfilée une bandelette 9- portant le titre; une fenêtre 10, prévue dans la paroi exté- rieure 8, permettant de le voir de l'extérieur.
Dans le fourreau selon la fig. 8, le dos, conformé de façon à ressembler au dos d'un livre relié; présente deux fentes parallèles 11, 12, situées dans les plans des faces inté rieures des parties 13 destinées à recouvrir les faces latérales du livre.
Une bandelette 14, repliée en<B>U,</B> .est passée comme représenté, avec une partie extérieure apparaissant sur le dos, dans les fentes, les branches de cette bandelette étant -serrées entre fourreau et livre.
Afin d'éviter la nécessité de sortir les fourreaux d'une bibliothèque, lorsqu'on veut en extraire un livre, et de risquer de déran ger ainsi un ordre de classement donné, on peut munir ceux-ci, à leur base, à l'endroit du dos, d'un organe destiné là coopérer avec un organe fixé au rayon de- la bibliothèque, dans le but que l'on puisse faire pivoter le fourreau autour dudit organe pour le renver ser en arrière, en extraire le livre et<B>lé</B> ra battre en avant,
à sa place habituelle. L'or gane du fourreau et celui du rayon doivent donc constituer en un point quelconque une charnière ou autre articulation. Le tout sera de préférence prévue de manière que le four reau puisse coulisser latéralement sur le rayon, l'organe fixé -au rayon pouvant être, par exemple, une tringle. Le fourreau peut aussi être muni de tout moyen en facilitant l'extraction .de la biblio thèque, par .exemple, d'une boucle ou d'une oreille.

Fig. 1 shows the simplest form, consisting of a rigid piece curved in <B> U, </B> so as to form a back 1 and two parts 2 intended to cover the lateral sides of the book to be protected 3. The spine is shaped to represent the spine of a bound book.
This sheath can be, for example, of molded plastic material, such as celluloid, rhodoid, bakelite, pollopase, etc. It could also be, for example, in steel, in chromed, painted or enamelled metal, in cardboard, in ebonite, in leather, in skin, in folded wood, veneered or plywood, in carved wood, etc. The scabbard could also Beech covered with paper; of cloth, silk, hide, etc. The spine may have one or more openings, making it possible to see whether the book is or is not in the sheath.

The sheath shown in FIG. 3 presents side parts 5 which do not completely cover the side faces of the book, these parts are rectangular, one of the long sides of each being formed by the edge of the back.
