Electrically controlled safety device for shutting off the fuel supply to internal combustion engines. The invention relates to an electrically controlled safety device for turning off the fuel supply to internal combustion engines, in particular those on vehicles, and consists in that the fuel supply is turned off when the pressure of at least one of the means for lubricating, for cooling, for controlling (e.g.
B. compressed air) falls below a certain value, namely in the two first-mentioned cases by opening a closed circuit, so that a flawless operation of the safety device is not endangered by an interruption in the closed circuit. It is also advantageous to design the safety device in such a way that the internal combustion engine can only be started when the control current necessary for switching on the starting contactor is available.
In the quiescent circuit, additional switches can be arranged, which are controlled as a function of the air temperature in the drycoolers or the temperature of the coolant or the temperature of the exhaust gases.
Two embodiments of the subject invention are shown schematically in the drawing.
1 and 2 show the switching positions of a first embodiment during the starting process; FIG. 3 shows a second embodiment of the safety device.
The internal combustion engine A drives a generator B, which supplies the electricity for the motors C. For starting the internal combustion engine, a storage battery D is provided, in whose circuit 1, which is controlled by the occasion protect 2, the starting winding 3 of the generator B is switched on. The coolant pump E is driven by a motor F, which can obtain power from the battery D.
Furthermore, a lubricant delivery device G is provided, which can be driven either directly from the crankshaft of the engine A or from an auxiliary motor. With the fuel pump H, a safety device J is connected, through which the fuel supply is influenced.
The various circuits are controlled by the controller K, of which the control circuit 4 controls the contactors 5. In the rest circuit 6, a switch 8, which is under the action of the pressure of the coolant, and a switch 9, which is under the action of the pressure of the lubricant, is built.
If there is a risk that the. Starting process, as long as the internal combustion engine is only driven by the generator and the pressure required to close one of the switches is not reached, which is particularly the case when the delivery devices E and G are driven directly by the internal combustion engine A the switches 8 and 9 can be bridged via the contacts 18 and 19 in the bypass lines 7 and 11 during the starting period.
In order to enable the coolant pump to operate even after the internal combustion engine has been switched off, a switch 10 is provided.
The safety device J has a servomotor 12, the piston 24 of which is moved by a pressure medium as a control means, for example air, and acts on the control element 13 of the fuel pump H. The servomotor 12 is controlled by a coil 14 which acts on a control element 15 for the pressure medium.
The operation of the device shown is as follows: To start (FIG. 1), the controller K is brought into the "On" position. All contacts 16-20 are thus closed. The starter contactor 2 receives power via contact 17. This closes the circuit 1 fed by the battery D, and the starter winding 3 receives power.
The generator B is put into operation and, running as a motor, causes the internal combustion engine A to start. At the same time, the contactor 5 has received power via the contact 20 and, by closing the power circuit, put the motor F of the coolant delivery device E into operation.
As soon as now in the pump E respectively. In the lubricant delivery device G, a certain operating pressure is reached, the switches 8 and 9 are closed under the action of the pressure medium acting on the piston 21, 2.2 (Fig. 2). As a result, the coil 14 also receives current and effects the setting of the control element 15 shown in FIG. 2.
The pressure medium, for example compressed air, passes under the piston 24 of the servo motor 12, thus causing a lifting of the same and the one connected to it, on the control member 13 of the fuel pump H we kenden linkage. So that the Regu regulation of the fuel is released by the controller and causes the engine to accelerate to idle.
In the event that the speed of the conveyor devices E and G when starting is not sufficient to achieve the pressure required to close the switches 8 and 9, the switches 8 and 9 can be bridged by the contacts 1.8 and 19 .
After starting, that is, when the machine is to be loaded, the controller K is set to the "0" position. In this position all contacts are open, with the exception of contact 16. Contactor 2 is de-energized when switching over from the starting position to the operating position and drops out. The contactor 5 also no longer receives any current via the contact 20, but via the switch 10, so that the circuit to the motor F remains closed.
The coil 14 remains energized via the contact 16 so that the servomotor 12 regulates the fuel and the controller can be loaded.
To turn off the system, the controller K is brought into the "Ab" position, in which all contacts 16-20 ge are opened. The coil 14 no longer receives any current. The control element 15 connected to the same is brought into the position shown in FIG. 1 under the action of the spring 30.
The supply of pressure by means of the piston 2'4 is thus interrupted. The spring 31 of the servomotor pushes its piston 24 and thus the lever 13 of the fuel pump H into the lowest position, whereby the fuel supply is interrupted and the machine is brought to a standstill. The cooling water pump E remains in operation even when the internal combustion engine is switched off, as long as the contactor 5 still receives power via the switch 10. To turn off the conveyor E, the switch 10 must be opened at least temporarily.
If the control current fails for any reason during operation, the coil 14 is de-energized. The control member 15 is brought into the position shown in FIG. 1 under the action of the spring 30 and thus the supply of pressure medium under the piston 2'4 is interrupted. The servo motor piston 24 and thus the lever 13 of the fuel pump H reach the lower position in which the fuel supply is interrupted and the machine is brought to a standstill.
If during operation either the pressure of the coolant or the pressure of the lubricant or the pressure medium for the servomotor 12 falls below a certain amount, the internal combustion engine is shut down in the manner already described.
As can be seen from FIG. 3, however, the internal combustion engine can also be shut down as a function of the temperature of the cooling water or the temperature of the air in the dry coolers or the temperature of the exhaust gases. In this case, a switch 32 is arranged in the circuit of the coil 14 which controls the fuel supply and is controlled as a function of the temperature of the cooling water (or depending on the temperature in the recooler).
For this purpose, a thermostat 35 is provided in the cooling water (or air) line 34, which can cause the switch 32 to open. The device can moreover also be designed in such a way that the shutdown of the internal combustion engine can also be brought about as a function of another state variable of the air, for example the speed of the same.
The shutdown of the system can also be effected by the switch 33, which works depending on the temperature of the exhaust gases by opening it when a certain temperature is reached in the exhaust line, 37 under the influence of the heat-dependent organ 36.
If one of these switches opens the control circuit, for example as a result of exceeding a certain temperature (the air in the back coolers or the cooling water with regard to the organ 32, or the temperature of the exhaust gases with regard to the organ 33) described manner causes a shutdown of the internal combustion engine.
This special design results in considerable advantages for internal combustion engines that work with supercharging, in that the temperature of the exhaust gases in such machines is a sensitive state variable.
