Process for the production of 1,2-diaminobenzene. It has been found that the 1,2-diaminobenzene can be obtained in an advantageous manner from 1-amino-2-chlorobenzene by adding the latter at temperatures which are around 150 '. in the presence of copper is treated with aqueous ammonia in such a way that at the end of the reaction the pressure of the water ammonia system .at 1'50 min at least 80 Atii. amounts.
It is advisable to work in such a way that the aromatic halogen compound is treated from the outset with such water ammonia systems whose pressure is at least 80 atmospheres. and that during the reaction the ammonia pressure is kept constant by adding more ammonia to some extent. The copper is expediently added to the reaction mass in the form of a mixture of copper salts and metallic copper.
It is advantageous if enough copper is present that the majority of the 1,2-diaminobenzene formed can be deposited in the form of a copper complex salt. In this case, the 1 2-diamino-beuzole set free again.
<I> Example: </I> 300 parts of o-chloroaniline, 60 parts by volume of conc. Aqueous ammonia, 45 parts of cuprochloride and 45 parts of copper pieces are heated to <B> 150 '</B> in an autoclave and enough ammonia is injected until the pressure is about 80 to 90 atmospheres. has risen. It is held for 10 to 20 hours at <B> 150 ', </B> and by temporarily injecting ammonia it is ensured that the pressure remains almost constant.
After the reaction has ended, the ammonia is blown off. Then 100 parts of water are added to the reac tion mass and the latter is acidified with 300 parts by volume of 25% hydrochloric acid whereupon hydrogen sulfide is passed in while boiling for 2 hours. After filtering, the filtrate is made alkaline with sodium hydroxide solution, whereupon the o-phenylenediamine crystallizes out. The same is <B> cleaned by vacuum distillation. </B>
