Method for gluing materials. It is known to bond wood, especially plywood and veneer wood, aqueous solutions of condensation products of urea, thiourea or derivatives of these and aldehydes, their polymers, optionally with the addition of hardeners for these condensation products, such as acids, acidic salts or Acid-releasing substances should be used.
It has now been found that bonds of significantly improved technical adhesive properties are obtained if, according to the present invention, the bonding of materials by the combined action of at least one ilarnea-aldehyde condensation product and a suitably curable phenol-aldehyde Condensation product takes place.
Either a suitable aqueous mixture can be used which contains both the aldehyde-urea condensation product and the phenol-aldehyde condensation product as such. But you can also use a mixture in which the individual components of the phenol-aldehyde condensation product, that is, the phenol and the aldehyde, are incorporated; the formation of the phenol-aldehyde condensation product then takes place in the adhesive mixture.
Among the phenol-aldehyde condensation products, the products obtainable using polyhydric phenols, such as resorcinol, have proven to be particularly valuable for the purposes of the process. The aldehydes known for the preparation of phenol-aldehyde condensation products, such as formaldehyde, can be used as the aldehyde component.
The method is preferably carried out in the manner customary for the known bonding with adhesives based on urea-aldehyde condensation products, that is, the adhesive solution becomes acidic, if necessary after adding a hardener, such as an acid Salt or an acid-releasing substance, applied to the adhesive surfaces.
The adhesive can then be pressed, where if necessary, increased working temperatures can be used. For some purposes, it is advisable to use the method of Swiss patent no: 174397, for example by applying the adhesive and the hardener separately to the surfaces to be bonded.
According to the method, wood bonds can be produced which are characterized in particular by a particularly high water resistance, which can be increased so that the bond is resistant even to long-term effects of boiling water.
However, the process can also be used with some advantages for bonding other materials, such as cardboard, vulcanized fiber and for bonding textiles, such as leather to wood, etc. Example: <B> 00 </B> parts of a 30 percent aqueous 22 formaldehyde solution are heated to 95 with 0.1 part monosodium phosphate.
A heated to <B> 70 '</B> solution of 60 parts of urea in 30 parts of water is added to this solution. After adding 0.15 part of trisodium phosphate, the solution is evaporated in vacuo below a temperature of <B> 50 '</B> until a 35 percent solution of the condensation product is obtained.
20 parts of resorcinol and 20 parts of a 40 percent strength aqueous formaldehyde solution and 0.5 part of ammonium chloride are added to 100 parts of the solution thus obtained. A middle layer of pine wood is coated on both sides with the adhesive mixture thus obtained. Then you apply two gabundeck veneers and press for 10 minutes at about 100. The gluing achieved in this way is resistant to boiling water.
