Safety switch for electric heater. The subject of the invention is a safety switch for electric heaters.
Electrically heated appliances are exposed to to êtr (,; overheated as a result of insufficient or irrational manual or automatic control.
The object of the present invention is to provide a switch of relatively small dimensions, at the same time inexpensive, efficient and safe to prevent any damage caused by overheating, which switch can be so constructed. that it makes it possible to easily observe its operating condition. The invention also aims at the realization of a switch with fuse element can be located at a certain distance from the contact members, these two parts of the device can be Easily detached from each other to facilitate insertion of a spare fuse element.
The switch according to the invention comprises a spring maintained in the compressed state, in a capsule by means of a fu sible stopper, and at least one member of electrically insulating material arranged so that 'it is actuated and opens the contacts of the switch during the relaxation of said spring following the melting of the fusible plug, this member made of insulating material being movable in a switch head made of material electrically insulating and adapted so that it opens the switch comprising a contact plate subjected to the action of a spring and which is movable in said head and normally forming an electrically conductive bridge between contacts.
The member of electrically insulating material may be integral with a part (which is not necessarily constructed of electrically insulating material) passing through through the contact plate and extending into a or verture of said head, so that it is moved through this opening as a result of the melting of the fusible plug, thus indicating that the safety switch has operated.
The switch preferably comprises two parts which can be fixed one to the other and one of which serves as a housing to the capsule and is fixed for example to the reservoir of the electric heating apparatus, while the other constitutes the head of electrically insulating material and containing a member of electrically insulating material, the movable contact subjected to the action of a spring and the other contacts.
The aforementioned head can be provided with a cap having a shoulder intended to retain in position the member of electrically insulating material when the two parts of the switch are detached from one another. with a view to replacing the capsule subjected to the action of a spring.
The appended drawing shows, by by way of examples, two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows in section a first embodiment, while FIG. 22 shows, also in section, the second embodiment; Fig. 3 is a plan projection of fig, 1 seen from below.
In fig. 1 and 3 of the drawing, 1 designates a capsule containing a spring to coil 2 maintained to < / B> the compressed state by a 3 fusible metal plug. The capsule 1 is housed in a housing 4 of a connector 5 screwed into the device intended to to be heated and which is shown schematically by plate 4 '.
The connector is also threaded at the other end, onto which is screwed a socket head 6 made of electrically insulating material. A </ B > this effect, the switch head, . is cylindrical in shape, has a threaded part, on which is screwed a chain 9 ' forming a nut with hexagon, itself screwed and pinned to the connector 5. The switch head 6 forms a housing 7, </ B > in which protrude two fixed contact rods 8. These contacts cooperate with a mobile electrical contact 9 formed by a disc, made of silver for example,
which is pressed against the contacts 8 by the action of a spring to bou din 10 placed between the disc 9 </ B> and the bottom of the switch body. The 9 ' cap has internal shoulders intended to be held in the switch head, a 10' member in electrically insulating material and entering the housing 4 of the connector 5. This member 10 ' has to this effect a collar and carries the contact disc 9; it also has a rod 11 which passes through the disc 9 in a central hole 12 of the latter and extends into an opening 13 provided in the bottom of the switch head 6. The rod Il is not necessarily made of electrically insulating material.
The connection terminals 14 are fixed to the switch head by means of screws constituting the fixed contacts 8.
It is understandable that if the device to which the switch is suitable is subjected to an excess of electric heating, the fusible plug 3 melts, which allows the res comes compressed 2 to rest, by one of its ends, against the bottom of the housing 4 and to actuate the member 10 ' of electrically insulating material, so that this member forces the contact disc 9, which normally forms an electrically conductive bridge between the fixed contacts 8, to move away from these two contacts and cut the electrical circuit than between them.
As a result of this function, the rod II of the member 10 ' passes through the opening 13 of the head of the switch 6 and appears on outside of it, which is a check indication that the safety switch has operated.
The discharged capsule 1 can easily be replaced by a new capsule, by unscrewing the switch body 6 from the connector 5.
The housing 4 containing the capsule 1 will be longer or shorter, depending on the position that you want to assign to the capsule in the device. The embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 3 represents a relatively short tubular housing 4.
In the variant embodiment given by fig, 22 of the drawing, the tubular housing is relatively long, the capsule 1 being if killed to a certain distance from the switch body 6. When the fusible plug 3 melts, the action of spring 2 is transmitted to l 'member 10' of electrically insulating material, by means of a rod 15 housed in the tubular housing 4 and extending into the bore of the connector < B> 5.
