Description
Method for the preparation of an azofa% s. It has been found that a new azo dye with valuable properties is obtained if dianotated 5-nitro-2-amino-1-phenol is combined with 2,5-dimethoxy-1-aminobenzene.
The new dye is a water-insoluble, dark green, metal-shiny powder that is soluble in acetone with a blue-red color and in concentrated sulfuric acid with a burgundy red color. Due to its good drawability and its excellent solubility, it dyes acetate silk according to the usual methods in strong, blue-red tones, which are characterized by their great purity and beauty. The dyeings show good fastness properties and can be etched in pure white. The new product is also a good colorant for paints.
Example: 15.4 parts of 5-nitro-2-amino-l-phenol are ground with 300 parts of water; the suspension obtained is dianotized with 25 parts of concentrated hydrochloric acid and 7 parts of sodium nitrite and the diazo solution thus prepared is combined with a solution of 15.3 parts of 2.5-dimethoxy-1-aminobenzene in dilute hydrochloric acid. The dye which separates out after prolonged stirring is filtered and washed.
