Description
Man erhält Perylen vom Fp. 260 o in etwa 50 o%oiger .Ausbeute.
Process for the production of perylene. According to the. The process described in the main patent gives perylene in good yield if 2,2'-di.aphthyl is heated with anhydrous aluminum chloride in the presence or absence of an inert solution by means of a higher temperature, suitably 130-160.
As has now been found further, mau perylene can be produced in a particularly advantageous manner if, instead of 2,2'-dinaphthyl, a mixture of the three isomeric dinaphthyls, e.g. B. as it is obtained from naphthalene according to the method of German patent writings No. 584 762, 586 878 and 574 741, treated with wasqer-free aluminum chloride at a higher temperature.
The process is carried out, for example, in such a way that a mixture of the isomeric dinaphthyls is heated to higher temperatures in an aluminum chloride or aluminum chloride-chlorobenzene melt.
The use of a sodium chloride-aluminum chloride or sodium chloride-galium chloride-aluminum chloride melt is very advantageous, in particular with regard to convenient work-up. The process can still be improved by, with a considerable increase in the yield, by carrying out the reaction in the presence of reaction-accelerating, in particular oxidizing substances.
Suitable substances of this type are, for example, air, oxygen, manganese dioxide, permanganate, chromic acid, g.aliumbichromat, arsenic acid, vanadic acid, molybdic acid, titanium chloride, iron chloride, etc. in question.
Example A melt of 1,600 parts of finely ground aluminum chloride, 200 parts of potassium chloride and 200 parts of sodium chloride is prepared in an enamel kettle and 200 parts of a mixture of the is added to the resulting melt at 100-110 within half an hour three isomeric dinaphthyls with the addition of 5 parts of finely powdered manganese dioxide. The temperature is kept at 110 ° for a further 2 hours with stirring, then the melt is poured onto ice, boiled with the addition of acid, filtered off with suction, washed out and dried.
The crude perylene obtained is sublimed in a high vacuum, whereupon the sublimate is washed with a mixture of methanol and carbon tetrachloride (1: 1) and finally with pure carbon tetrachloride. Perylene with a melting point of 260 o is obtained in about 50% oiger yield.
