Une boîte ainsi,conditionnée convient par ticulièrement bien pour la fabrication en masse, le fonctionnement des moyens .d'en clenchement n'étant en général guère défavo rablement affecté par de petites variations de dimensions. La portion latérale du couver cle sera -de faible hauteur pour éviter toute friction indue,ducouvercle sauf aux endroits d'enclenchement, afin de permettre un déga gement facile -du couvercle avec un minimum d'effort par action -de levier;
La fig. 1 est une coupe verticale d'une première forme d'exécution qui est une boîte à fermeture hermétique à section transversale circulaire; La fig. 2 est une vue de dessous du cou verele -de la boîte :suivant la fig. 1; La fig. 3 est une coupe verticale, à. échelle plus grande, :suivant la ligne 3-3 de la fig. 2;
La fi-. 4 est une vue de dessous d'une variante du couvercle suivant la fig. 2; La fig. 5 est une coupe verticale, à échelle plus grande, suivant la ligne 5-5 de la fig. 4;
La fig. 6 est une coupe verticale d'une seconde forme d'exécution qui est une autre boîte à, section transversale circulaire; La fig. 7 est une vue de dessous: ,du cou vercle de la boîte suivant la fig. 6; La fig. 8 est une coupe verticale, à échelle plus grande, suivant la ligne 8--:8 de la fig. 7;
Ira fig.
Lorsque le -couvercle est remis en place sur le corps de boîte, les dents 15 formées aux endroits 12, 13 et 14 s'engagent de nouveau avec le bourrelet 2 -de façon ù retenir le cou vercle en position de fermeture avec une force qui est suffisamment grande pour empêcher au couvercle de .se dégager accidentellement lorsqu'on transporte la boîte par exemple dans sa poche, mais qui n'est pasd'une ;
Hermetically sealed box. The present invention relates to a hermetically sealed box, of the kind which is -disposed to be hermetically closed as a result of the establishment of a vacuum therein and whose cover can be easily removed by hand, , without having to use any tools, after the 4estruc- tion of said vacuum.
The box according to the invention is characterized in that the periphery of the box body engages, at its open end, when the vacuum is produced inside the box, with a sealing gasket provided in a corresponding part of the box cover to establish a hermetic seal, notch engagement means being provided between a low side portion of the cover and a corresponding part of the box body,
to allow the lid to be fixed by snap-fit onto the box body, in a removable manner, the box body being established, so as to be able to deform during engagement or release -of the lid.
Said latching means, which constitute the only mechanical means for fixing the cover against any accidental displacement on the box body during the destruction of the vacuum in the box, can comprise, for example, a bead annealed on the one of the box elements (box body, cover) and teeth on the other box element, the engagement parts of the box elements having to cooperate to interconnect the box elements.
A box packaged in this way is particularly suitable for mass production, the operation of the latching means generally being hardly adversely affected by small variations in dimensions. The lateral portion of the key cover will be low in order to avoid any undue friction, of the cover except where it engages, in order to allow easy release of the cover with a minimum of effort by lever action;
a flange advantageously provided at the edge of this portion may constitute a suitable means for the application of this lever action.
It is advantageous to provide a small hole in the bottom of the box body or in the cover, this hole being covered by a sealing blank, for example a rubber sheet, the removal of this blank having the effect of -d ' destroy the vacuum in the box.
In a preferred embodiment, the box body is stamped from sheet metal to produce a shallow cylindrical cup, the metal at the top edge of the box being. - vette being curved inwards to form a circular bead. The cover is formed from a metal disc which is stamped so as to have an annular groove,
a number of teeth (for example three) being formed in the metal constituting the inner wall of said annular groove, said teeth extending outwardly towards the space constituting the groove.
A sealing gasket, formed for example by a rubber washer tin by a mass capable of coagulating, will be housed in this annular groove of the cover, and afterwards.
that the box has been filled, for example with tobacco, the cover is placed on the box body so that the circular bead of the latter, formed by the bending of the metal inward, comes to engage with the washer of rubber or other loosening material provided in the annular groove of the cover.
The air is then evacuated -de the box .de any convenient manner, for example by placing the box in a chamber intended to be subjected to the action of a vacuum; after the box is removed from the evacuation chamber, the atmospheric pressure acting on the cover will keep the box closed.
As a variant, the lid can be shaped so as to also have an annular groove on the top of the lid. this groove having the outer wall oriented substantially vertically (that is to say that it forms a right angle with the plane of the bottom of the cover) and its inner wall oriented obliquely or sloping towards the axis of the box, the two walls meet at the bottom by a fairly sharp ridge.
The cover can then be placed under a punching tool comprising a certain number of punches (for example three) brought to act as a field on said edge in order to make an impression 0.1 to 0.125 mm deep at the edges. places where the punches act, with the result that the vertical wall of said groove is slightly pushed outwards, projecting into the space of the sealing groove.
The cover with an edge formed as has just been described can also be placed with this edge under a pressing tool comprising a certain number of delivery wedges (for example three) which come to be applied against the wall. groove, oblique interior, in particular near the top of the ridge, to push back this one,
at the places of attack -of the wedges, slightly towards the outside by further tightening the groove-walls therein with a slight curvature of these walls, so as to produce interlocking teeth projecting on the inside, of the sealing groove, the edge being slightly reduced in width at said locations. while exhibiting protruding teeth with an elevation of approximately 0.075 to 0,
10 mm.
The box body can be provided, at its open end, with a ridge extending inwardly, for example by forming at this right a circular bead curved in from in.
When the cover is applied to the box body, said teeth on the vertical face of the latter engage over the bead of the box body and hold the cover in the application position on the box body. , while allowing it to be easily removed when desired. The box according to the invention may have a cylindrical shape, but it may naturally also have a cross section, for example oval or rectangular.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, several embodiments of the box, object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a first embodiment which is a sealed box with a circular cross section; Fig. 2 is a view from below of the verele neck of the box: according to FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is a vertical section, at. larger scale: according to line 3-3 of fig. 2;
The fi-. 4 is a bottom view of a variant of the cover according to FIG. 2; Fig. 5 is a vertical section, on a larger scale, taken along line 5-5 of FIG. 4;
Fig. 6 is a vertical section of a second embodiment which is another box with a circular cross section; Fig. 7 is a bottom view:, of the cover of the box according to FIG. 6; Fig. 8 is a vertical section, on a larger scale, along the line 8 -: 8 of FIG. 7;
Ira fig. 9 is a vertical section of a third embodiment which is a box with a rectangular cross section; Fig. 10 is a view from below of the cover of the box according to FIG. 9, and Figs. 11 and 12 are vertical cross sections of two other embodiments.
The box according to fig. 1, 2 and 3 com carries a cylindrical box body 1 provided, at its open end, with a circular bead 2 turned inward. The bottom of the box body can be:
as can be seen in fig. 1, of a large circular recessed portion 3 which extends almost to the edge 4 of the bottom of the box body 1 and, in the center of this portion 3, there is provided a portion 5 which is further recessed and which has a small hole 6. Hole 6 is covered by a blank 7, for example made of rubber.
The lid of the box is shaped so as to include a groove 8 in which is housed a sealing gasket 9, such as for example a rubber ring, the outer part of the edge of the lid being provided with a bead 10.
The cylindrical wall 11 which constitutes the inner wall of the groove 8 is driven in at the places designated by 12, 18 and 14, as can be seen in FIG. 2, so as to have teeth 15 (see fig. 3).
For the use of the box which has just been described, after having filled it with its contents, for example tobacco, it is evacuated, thanks to which the atmospheric pressure presses the cover on the box body 1 - so as to close the box hermetically, the sealing gaskets 9 being, in this closed state of the box, clamped between the bead: 2 of the box body and the bottom of the groove 8.
When it is desired to have access to the contents of the box, the blank 7 is removed, the vacuum being then destroyed due to the admission of air through the hole 6. The: cover can then be removed, since this This is only retained in place on the box body as a result of the engagement of: teeth 15 formed at right angles 12, 13 and 14 with the bead 2, its removal requiring only a slight spring effect in the cylindrical wall of the box body.
This spring effect, which manifests itself as a result of the temporary deformation of the periphery of the box body from its original shape, allows the portions of the loop 2 which are located in correspondence of the locations 12, 13 and 14 to move radially outwards,
this displacement having for effect the radial displacement towards the interior of the other portions of the bead, 2. The box parts have dimensions such that, without said teeth 15, the bead 2 would engage freely in the groove 8, so that if the box was turned backwards, the cover would come off and fall,
on condition that the weak adhesion effect of the sealing .garniture 9 is not sufficient to retain it.
When the cover is replaced on the can body, the teeth 15 formed at locations 12, 13 and 14 re-engage with the bead 2 - so as to hold the cover in the closed position with a force which is large enough to prevent the lid from accidentally disengaging when carrying the box for example in its pocket, but which is not;
a size such as to prevent easy removal of the cover by hand when it is desired to open the box.
The fact that the teeth engage with: parts of the bead 2 which are located below the zone of maximum thickness of the bead, as well as the presence of the sealing insert 9, make it possible to achieve a substantially airtight between the cover and the can body after the vacuum in the can has been destroyed.
If desired, the hole 6 intended to be covered by the blank 7 can be provided in the lid instead of being made in the box body.
In the box shown in fig. 4 and 5, the shape of the cover is partially changed, and the teeth are formed in a different way. The cover has a groove 16 on its outer face, this groove 16 being adjacent to the.
groove 8 containing the seal -de seal 9, a circular ridge 17 facing downwards and formed by the groove 16 being provided with portions pressed upwards 18, 19 and 20 (fig. 4), the depression of these parts of the edge 17 giving rise to a deformation of the lower part of the outer wall 2'1 of the groove 16 towards the outside, as can be seen at 22 in FIG. 5, this:
deformation extending in a direction which is transverse to .celle in which the depression took place, -des dehts thus being piroduites, which come to engage under the part la. thicker .the bead 2 of the box body when the cover is applied to the latter. As regards, moreover., The body of the box, this one is similar to that of the box according to the. fig. 1 to 3.
In the box according to fig. 6, 7 and 8, the. teeth are formed in yet another way. The cover of this box is.
provided, on its upper or external face, with a groove 16, like the cover of the box according to FIGS. 4 and 5, but the teeth, instead of being formed by pushing the edge 17 upwards, are formed by pushing the inner wall 24 outwards so as to make it behave @ at these places of sinking of portions 25, 26 and 27 (Fig. 7) more or less affecting the shape of half moons.
Such a deformation causes a slight deformation of the outer wall of the ridge towards the outside, as indicated at 315 in FIG. 8, so as to. form teeth which engage under part la. thicker of the bead 2 of the box body during application of the cover on this last.
In other respects, the box according to FIGS. 6, 7 and 8 is similar to the other boxes which have already been described and is used in a manner similar to the latter.
Figs. 9 and 10 show a box with a substantially rectangular cross section, the teeth 25, 26 and 27 being formed in substantially the same way as in the box according to FIGS. 7 and 8, that is to say by driving the inner wall 25 of the edge of the groove 16 outwards. In this box, however, the ridge 17 and the corresponding groove 16, provided on the outer face of the cover, instead of being circular, assume the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners.
In a box of this shape, the opening of the box will be made easier by taking advantage of the kind of articulation produced as a result of the engagement between the teeth and the box body at two opposite sides of the box. box. A slight deformation of the box body in the vicinity of the place of engagement of the bead 2 with the tooth 25 will result in the release of the cover on this side, the teeth 26 and 27 being in turn released by turning. the cover up,
around the corresponding edge of the box body.
In the box according to fig. 11, the cover, instead of presenting a groove serving as a housing for the unsealing gasket, is formed so as to present an annular rim 28 provided with: a cylindrical portion that is not very high 29 extending downwards- . At the base of this portion 29 are provided teeth designated by 30.
This box is, for the rest, similar to the other boxes described, the only difference being that the sealing gasket 9 is pressed into contact with the bead 2: of the body: of the box by the annular edge 28: of the cover. The teeth 30 also act, as already noted, to produce a weak retaining effect between the cover and the can body.
The box according to fig. 12 comprises a body: box provided with: an interior bead 2 and an exterior groove 31, formed in its cylindrical wall 1 immediately below the bead 2, so as to provide the bead 2 with a shoulder 32.
A not very high outer wall 3r3, extending downwards from the bottom of the cover, has in three places of its periphery parts projecting inside,: as indicated in 34,: these protruding parts coming from engage with said shoulder 3.2 when applying the cover on the box body.
The bottom: of the cover is almost flat and: does not have: a relatively large external groove constituting a zone of low mechanical resistance in the cover, which could give rise to the sinking of the latter, when the box is evacuated.
In the boxes shown, the box body is provided with: a bead @ having a substantially circular cross section, but it is understood that provision could be made for: beads having any other cross section.
Further, the illustrated boxes all have a box body which is relatively low and which is produced by embedding a metal sheet. It is obvious, however, that one could make a box of the same kind, deeper and whose body would consist of an assembly: of different parts. The box body may for example consist of a cylindrical part formed of a blank rolled up on itself and:
the two side edges of which are connected together, for example by welding, while the bottom of the box body can be: constituted by a separate part fixed to the part: cylindrical.
The mouth part -of this box body may consist of a ring constituting the bead 2 provided at the open end: of the box body; however, it is also possible to form the bead directly on the aforementioned cylindrical part. A pa reille box is particularly suitable, for example, for: cigarettes.
It is of course also possible to establish a box body with the bead facing outwards, @in which case the protruding parts: of the side wall of the: cover are: arranged in another suitable way to allow the latter to engage with said bead.
It is understood that the: teeth can also be provided on the box body instead of being provided on the cover. It has been found, however, that it is easier and cheaper to provide them on the cover.
The construction of the boxes shown and described is very simple and the cover, although it is easily removable by hand, without the use of any tools, after the destruction of the vacuum, is able to remain fixed. on the box body after destruction -of the vacuum, -so as to prevent accidental removal.
