Process for the production of air-impermeable coatings on thermally insulated coolant lines in refrigeration machines and the like and coating produced by this process. For the purpose of reducing the heat exchange between the atmosphere and the coolants for refrigeration machines and the like, it is customary to enclose the lines carrying the coolant with a protective sleeve that insulates against loss of cold. Mainly bowls made of cork stone and similar more or less porous materials are used for this.
When the coolant passes through the coolant line, the surrounding cold protection cover, respectively. heat is withdrawn from the air trapped in their pores. The air in the pores is cooled with simultaneous Volumenkon traction, whereby warm, moist air is sucked into the pores of the protective cover nachge from the surrounding atmosphere.
In the low temperature range that prevails here, heat is again withdrawn from this moist air flowing in, whereby the moisture contained in the air is initially deposited as condensate in the pores, and after repeated heat withdrawal gradually turns into ice.
During the transition of the condensate from the liquid to the solid state, however, there is an increase in volume, as a result of which over time the protective cover from the coolant line is blown off.
In order to prevent the penetration of moist air into the pores of the protective cover, is. they went over to providing them with a bandage made of cotton fabric, jute or the like, and then covering them several times with overcoat.
However, such color-coated fabric bandages have little resistance to mechanical and physical effects. The paint coat tends to weather and will be destroyed if the paint coat is not renewed periodically. Another known method of preventing moist air from entering the pores of the cold protective cover is to roll an asphalt surface onto the protective cover.
Such asphalt coatings, however, also have the disadvantage of only low resistance, and are particularly sensitive to mechanical influences, so that they are mostly damaged during the transport to the assembly site. Just a few such damaged areas, even if only the size of needle holes, are sufficient if they allow air access to the protective cover against the cold in order to bring about the devastating effects mentioned.
Another, also known, method of closing the cold protection shell from the atmosphere consists in cladding the entire pipeline with sheet metal cladding and soldering it airtight.
However, a casing of this type also has considerable disadvantages. First of all, there is a risk that the cold protection sleeve will be damaged when the casing is soldered.
Another disadvantage is also to be seen in the fact that there always remains an air-filled space between the casing and the cold protection sleeve.
If such a casing leaks even at a single point, the warm, moist outside air penetrating at the point in question will gradually sweep the entire pipeline, which leads to the destruction of the entire protective cover against the cold. .
In addition, it is possible to precisely check whether the casing is really tight everywhere. only .very difficult to carry out, -as any moist air penetrating between the cladding and protective cover spreads over the entire room, and possibly the protective cover not in the area of the leaky point of the cladding, but possibly at one of them more or less distant Attack, so that damage to the casing is difficult to find.
The method according to the present invention now makes it possible to produce an air-impermeable coating on thermally insulated coolant lines for Kälteerzeu- gungsmasehinen and the like, in which all the disadvantages associated with the aforementioned known methods are eliminated.
The method according to the invention consists in that the insulating sleeve of the coolant line is covered with a metal coating resting on the insulating sleeve without leaving air-filled gaps. In this case, the insulating sleeve is expediently first coated with an adhesive, and then provided with a bandage consisting of thin, foil-like metal tape, the overlap points also being expediently glued to one another.
In the drawing, a Ausführungsbei is a game provided with a coating produced by the fiction, according to the method, thermally insulated coolant line shown, namely: Fig. 1 shows the line partially in view and partially in longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 the same in cross section.
In the illustrated embodiment, 1 denotes the pipe carrying the coolant. Around this, the stone made of cork cold protection cover 2 is arranged, which latter is enclosed airtight by the thin, foil-like metal band, glued bandage 3.
When the bandage is applied, the cold protection cover 2 is first coated with an adhesive, for example with a varnish or the like, and then provided with the bandage 3 made of thin, foil-like metal tape, the overlap points 4 being glued together by ver For example, the lower side of the metal tape facing the cold protection cover, insofar as it is to overlap the tape strips that have already been wound on, is also coated with the varnish.
The material for the bandage is preferably non-rusting, soft, pliable metals, such as, for example, lead, aluminum, tin and the like.
Such a bandage offers a completely airtight seal while at the same time being extremely durable and insensitive to mechanical, physical and chemical effects.
A red-free bandage produced according to the process can optionally be left raw or provided with a suitable coat of paint.
