Process for the preparation of an azo dye. It has been found that valuable dyes are obtained if a diazated 1-amino-2,4-, dihalobenzene-6-sulfonic acid is coupled with an amine of the benzene series that can be coupled in the p = position, further diazotized and with 2-amino-5-naphthol-7-sulfonic acid or its substitution products, such as 1-chloro-2-amino-5-naphthol-7-sulfonic acid,
2-Amino-5-naphthol-1,7- or 3,7-disulfonic acid, or its N-acyl or. -Aryl substitution products.
In this way, dyes are obtained which generally give lightfast red to purple tones.
Compared to the known corresponding combinations, the dyes produced using the 1-amino-2,4-, dihalogenobenzene-6-sulfonic acids as initial components are distinguished by a considerably increased lightfastness of the dyeings obtained therewith.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the production of an azo dye. It consists in coupling diazotised 2,4-dichloroaniline-6-sulphonic acid with the methanesulphonic acid of m-toluidine, splitting off the methanesulphonic acid group by saponification, further diazotising and, with the mixed urea, the 2-amino-5-naphthol-7 sulfonic acid and p-aminoacetanilide.
Example: 41 parts by weight of 2,4-dichloroaniline-6-sulphonic acid potassium are dissolved in 1,100 parts by weight of water at room temperature, 10 parts by weight of nitrite are added and the clear solution is acidified with hydrochloric acid. The diazonium chloride separates out in beautiful colorless crystals, which are coupled to the calculated amount of methanesulfonic acid of m-toluidine.
The crimson intermediate product is saponified with dilute sulfuric acid at the boiling point, isolated, diazotized and weakly acidic to the mixed urea, the 2-amino-5-naphthol-7-sulfonic acid and the p-aminoacetanilide. The dye draws from the Glauber's salt bath on cotton in clear red tones of high lightfastness.
