Description
Aluminum alloy for adjusting pistons. The invention relates to an improvement of the alloy described in the claim of the main patent. There were an aluminum alloy with a content of more than 68% aluminum, about 15 to 25% silicon, and 0.2 to $% chromium and 0.5 to about 3 of each of the metals manganese, cobalt and nickel marked. In addition, 0.5 to 1 titanium or molybdenum can be added to this alloy, further 0.5 to 3% antimony.
It has now been found that a substantial improvement in the alloy according to the patent claim of the main patent can be achieved by adding magnesium to it in amounts of 0.05 to 5. This can either be for it or together with 0.5 Up to 5% copper can be added The addition of magnesium increases the strength and the sliding properties, so that the suitability for the manufacture of pistons, especially for internal combustion engines, is improved.
The following composition may be mentioned as an example of the composition of the alloy produced according to this patent: Si 22%, chromium 0.2%, manganese 1%, nickel cobalt 2%, copper 2.5%, magnesium 1.3%, the remainder aluminum.
The alloys, .which with the addition of magnesium respectively. Magnesium and copper are made, are characterized by: improved tensile and compressive strength and have higher sliding properties and better machinability with cutting tools without reducing the thermal conductivity. Finally, they also show a reduced coefficient of thermal expansion, which is particularly important for the manufacture of pistons.
