Device for automatic arc welding. The invention relates to a device for automatic arc welding using direct current. When welding with direct current, due to the nature of the workpieces to be welded and their cross-sectional ratios, magnetic fields often occur, which cause the arc to pend continuously and flutter around the welding electrode.
The widening of the arc cross-section caused by the arc retreating from the welding point prevents the arc voltage and power from falling with the arc length, so that there is hardly any reduction in the arc voltage immediately after the electrode comes into contact with the melt flow . The relays will not respond so that the welding wire is not shut down or withdrawn. When the electrode comes into contact with the melt flow, the arc is extinguished, the wire is then withdrawn and the arc is re-ignited until it stops again.
In such a case, there can be no question of a perfect weld. According to the invention, this deficiency is eliminated by a device which is characterized in that a contact piece is provided for connecting one pole of the welding current source to the workpiece, which is connected to the welding carriage in a relative and adjustable manner with respect to the electrode.
The attached drawing shows an exemplary embodiment from a device according to the invention. The welding carriage b, which carries the welding head c with the electrode d, runs on the machine frame a. The electrode d is led away by means of the welding carriage over the workpiece e to be welded, the arc f being created between the electrode d and the workpiece e. The electrode d is on the negative pole, the workpiece on the positive pole. According to this exemplary embodiment, the current is fed to the workpiece by a resiliently arranged roller g, which can be adjusted in its position relative to the workpiece and the welding point.
A second roller (not shown) can be attached to the welding carriage in the same way on the other side of the arc, opposite roller g.
The power supply to the roller g takes place by means of an insulated cable h via a changeover switch i. The switch consists of a swiveling, two-armed switch blade that can either intervene in contact k and contact l. The switch blade is connected to the positive pole, while the contact k is connected to the cable h. respectively the role g and the contact l with the welding carriage b respectively. the machine frame a and thus with the workpiece, e is in conductive connection.
Depending on the position of the switch blade, the positive pole can temporarily be placed via contact 1 on the workpiece e clamped in the machine frame and temporarily via contact k on roller g. The design of the switching knife and the contacts k and l is such that there is no power interruption when switching from one contact to the other.
The mode of operation of the device is as follows: At the start of welding, the welding electrode d moves by means of the welding carriage b in the direction of the arrow a and the switch blade i is in contact 1, </ I > so that the positive pole is connected to the workpiece in the usual way via the machine frame.
After placing a short piece of the welding bead between the workpiece edges to be welded, one or the other contact roll is applied to the workpiece, respectively, depending on the requirements. the positive pole is placed on the workpiece at a certain distance in front of or behind the arc by turning the switch blade into contact k without interrupting the power supply via roller g, so that a directional effect is achieved,
which continues to influence the arc in a favorable manner during the welding process.
If the sliding roller g lies directly over the weld seam, it can expediently be provided with a groove so that it does not get caught on the already welded bead. The creation of one or the other role before respectively. behind the electrode, may inevitably be brought about by known means.
In the exemplary embodiment, when the roller g is not in use, it is raised, for example, against the spring action and held in the raised position by the workpiece by means of a pin n, so that when the roller g is not in use it is completely ineffective. The distance between the roller and the welding point is, as the exemplary embodiment shows, precisely determined, the adjustment option is omitted in the drawing for the sake of clarity.
