Device for extinguishing the arc in metal vapor valves by switching on capacitors parallel to the arc. There are devices for extinguishing metal vapor valves are known in which a capacitor with or without bias is connected pa rallel to the arc. Such metal vapor valves are mainly used as overcurrent protection in power transmission systems and conversion of the same into multi-phase current by means of electrostatically controlled metal vapor valves. In order to be able to turn on the capacitor as quickly as possible in the event of an overcurrent, the capacitor is switched on parallel to the arc using a spark gap.
The spark gap itself is triggered by an ignition transformer, whose primary winding is traversed by the direct load current of the system to be monitored or by a current proportional to the load current and whose secondary winding is in the discharge circuit of the capacitor, i.e. in series with the latter and with. the spark gap. A change in current on the primary side induces an additional voltage on the secondary side, that is, in the discharge circuit of the capacitor, which leads to the ignition of the spark gap.
This device has the disadvantage that the spark gap also responds to current fluctuations that are still within the normal loading, as well as when the system is switched on to a certain load. If you want to counteract this by increasing the width of the spark gap, the sensitivity of the overcurrent protection is so severely impaired that its importance is questioned.
According to the present invention, this disadvantage is now eliminated in that the ignition transformer is additionally magnetized in the opposite direction to magnetization by the primary winding. The additional magnetization is chosen so that the transformer works below the lower knee of the magnetization curve during normal operation (compare Fig. 1 of the drawing), so "," approximately in the interval A-B,
and the magnetic induction at full load corresponds to your point B in the lower knee. In the case of larger current changes, which exceed the normal load limit, the transformer works in the interval B-0, where significantly larger voltages are induced, which then lead to the ignition of the spark gap.
In Fig. 2-4 of the patent drawings, embodiments of the invention are shown schematically table. In the example according to Fig. 2, 1 and 2 are the two direct current lines that lead to the converter (not shown). 3 is the valve which acts as overcurrent protection and to which the capacitor 5 is connected in parallel via the spark gap 6. The ignition transformer 4 has 3 windings.
The primary winding 411 is traversed by the main current, 4b is an additional exciter winding, which in the example is fed by the incoming voltage; however, this winding can also be fed from a separate power source; which can also be used to control the grid. The spark gap between electrodes 611 and 6b is ignited by the voltage induced in winding 4.
So through. the reactance of the ignition winding 4, the peak value of the discharge current of the capacitor, is not reduced, a third electrode 615 is attached in the area of the spark gap 6 1 - 6b, which short-circuits the winding 4 when the spark responds and so extends the gap via the resistor 16 the direct current network on charged capacitor 5 parallel to Ven valve 3 sets.
The choke coil 11 prevents an excessively large equalizing current from flowing in the winding 4b in the event of a short circuit, which would destroy the voltage required to ignite the spark gap. The choke coil is also designed as a blowing coil and thus also serves the purpose of blowing the arc between 611 and 6 ″ to the electrode 6. The resistor serves to set the additional magnetizing current.
Fig. 3 shows a circuit in which the ignition coil 4 stretches two sparks 6 and 12 are ignited, which are connected in series. This arrangement has the advantage over the arrangement according to FIG. 2 that the arc for connecting the capacitor 5 in parallel to the valve 3 does not have to be blown first to a third electrode of the spark gap.
Since experience shows that igniting a spark gap takes significantly less time than shifting an arc by means of electromagr_etic blowing, the switch-off time is shortened by using two spark gaps. The ignition of the spark gap 12 establishes a connection from the positive conductor via the spark gap 12, resistor 13, ignition winding 4 to the negative conductor. In order to blow out this arc, the choke coil 11, which is connected upstream of the additional excitation winding, is again used as a blowing coil.
In order to reliably extinguish the arc at the horn spark gap 12, a special electrode 14 is brought into the area dersel ben, which is connected to the one horn via the capacitor 15. If the arc now sweeps the electrode 14 when ascending, part of the arc is short-circuited by the capacitor 15, with the result that the arc is extinguished along this route. Between the elec trode 14 and the other horn of the spark gap 12 it remains only 'until the capacitor 15 is charged. Depending on whether the ignition winding is connected to the minus or plus conductor of the direct current network, it is up to you to first make the spark gap 12 or 6 respond.
The charging of the capacitor 5, which is connected in parallel to the valve 3 through the spark gap 6 and 12, takes place again via the resistor 16, in the embodiment according to Fig the additional magnetization is used.
