Process for the production of bronze powder. The invention relates to a method for producing bronze powder, so-called bronze colors, with the help of falling steel balls in an order of magnitude of about 3 to 5 mm in diameter, which are together with the metal particles to be stretched men in a rotating drum and raised by its rotation and then be dropped.
The invention makes it possible to give this process a very special degree of efficiency by tuning the amount of steel balls used so that, when the drum is stationary, it fills a segment of the circular cross-section of the drum, the height of which is more than two fifths Drum radius, but not more than five sixths of the same.
In general, one tends to pretend that the most favorable efficiency can be determined by changing the filluti. If this rule is applied to the present case, the first result is that an increase in the number of steel knuckles while at the same time proportionally increasing the loading of the metal particles to be processed leads to an increase in the yield of finished particles.
The yield increases to a pronounced maximum and then decreases again to a considerably smaller value as the number of steel balls increases. Also an even further driven @ 'ermehruno; the steel ball number can, as is to be expected. to produce no improvement in the specific yield.
Surprisingly, however, if the series of tests is continued despite the apparently hopelessness, it is possible to increase the specific yield not only to the level of the first maximum, but also to achieve a considerable increase by increasing the number of balls again. You get a second. Maxium, which is considerably higher than the previous one, so not only an increase in yield, which is in proportion to the increase in the number of balls, but also, in absolute terms, a higher weight of bronze per kilogram of steel used.
This phenomenon forms the basis of the present invention.
Fig. 1 illustrates in a curve image the course of the yield. The show picture is taken on a drum with an internal diameter of 600 mm. The ordinates of the diagram show the yield from stretching aluminum particles in kilograms, while the abscissas show the weight of the steel balls used in kilograms for a one-meter length of the drum.
One can clearly see the increase in the yield up to the increase in the weight of the steel ball to 102 kg. Immediately thereafter, the yield drops rapidly to a ball weight of 150 kg, and then slowly drops to a weight of 19,8 kg. However, the curve now begins to rise rapidly. With about 235 kg of balls the first optimum is reached again. However, a further increase in the number of steel balls brings a steadily increasing increase in the yield until it reaches the second optimum at 290 kg, and then drops again when the number of steel balls increases.
This peculiar phenomenon is likely to be explained by the fact that the missing balls in the present case have to do a peculiar job, namely the extension of small metal particles into bronze leaves, which requires a very special coordination of the ball fall, the size of the balls and the proportion between them Ball and the metal to be processed has the basis.
According to the invention, such a quantity of steel balls is used in the drum for the flattening process that the second rise in the curve for the specific yield, which follows the minimum lying behind the first maximum, is used. Depending on the dimensions of the drums used, the size of the steel balls and the type and nature of the metal particles intended to be stretched, the curve pattern will naturally shift somewhat in the individual cases.
The graph in FIG. 1 also shows that the second maximum of the curve drops as quickly as the number of steel balls increases. Therefore, for reasons of caution, the dimensioning of the number of steel balls will not be set directly to the maximum, but rather a little lower. so that the inaccuracies that are unavoidable in practical operation are not suddenly caught on the steeply sloping part of the curve.
In detail, the curve image can naturally be determined on the basis of tests after one knows that there is a second maximum.
In general, in the method according to the present invention, the amount of steel balls in the resting state of the drum should fill a segment of the circular cross-section, the height of which is more than two fifths of the circle radius. The upper limit that can be given to the height of the circle segment is about five sixths of the circle radius.
The high degree of filling the drum with. Steel balls also give the advantageous appearance that the center of gravity of the whole system moves relatively close to the axis of rotation, and that as a result the energy expended for the turning work is correspondingly low.
Many metal particles, in particular crushed aluminum foil waste, show a very high bulk volume in the unflattened state.
With the specified amounts of balls, it can happen that the balls, together with the metal particles to be processed, fill the entire volume of the drum. Then, of course, a proper liugfall is severely hindered, and a considerable amount of time passes before the balls have stretched the metal particles so far that they only take up a volume corresponding to the intended ballfall.
For the present case, it is therefore of particular advantage to fill and empty the plating drum as gradually and continuously as possible, since then the newly added, not yet stretched metal particles make up only a small percentage in relation to those already processed before and are not able to cause any disturbances.
The supply of the metal particles is therefore expediently effected by one of the known loading devices, for example a screw conveyor or a rotary lock, while the discharge can be carried out with the aid of a blower wind.
2 and 3 show a schematic representation of an embodiment of a system drawn for performing the method according to the present invention, which is completely closed and can be filled with indif ferent gas to prevent the risk of explosion. 2 shows the device in a view, partly in section, and FIG. 3 shows the drum in section along the line A-B in FIG.
The unprocessed metal particles are in a storage container 1 and who are fed by a screw conveyor 2 mounted in the pipe 3 to the pipe 5 to pass from there into the pipe socket 9, into the pipe 10 and from there into the drum 12, in which the steel balls 15 are located. The drum 12 is rotatably supported and is set in motion by a drive not shown here.
A blowing wind generated by the blower 6 also enters the pipe 10 through the pipeline 16-17, passes through the drum 12 and, taking along the sufficiently fine stretched out metal particles, exits the pipeline 13, which in turn leads to an air classifier 19. In this who saw the metal leaves; the unfer term pass through a rotary lock 23 into the pipe socket 7 and from there into the pipe 10 and from there again into the drum 12.
The finished leaflets, on the other hand, are transferred from the air classifier 19 through the pipe 8 into a separating device 14, for example a cyclone, and collected in a transport vessel 20, which is closed with the interposition of a shut-off device 21 to the cyclone 14. The wind freed from the metal particles exits the cyclone through the pipe 22 and returns to the blower 6. Through a tube 11 passed through the pipe 1 (1), fat or oil can be introduced into the drum 12 in order to prevent the individual metal particles from welding together or from sticking to the steel balls.
