Adjustable support device for ceiling and wall cladding panels. The present invention relates to an adjustable support device for ceiling and wall covering panels, a device comprising, in combination with a support element and a T-bar, to which said panels: must be fixed:
a suspension element consisting of a screw and a -cooperative anchoring piece, carried by said support element and a claw which, carried by the head of the screw, at a distance from said surface, .and provided with a slot and a recess, in which are received this screw head and a washer interposed between said head, and the claw,. embraces the base of the T-bar and is folded in, over the edges of this base, to firmly hold said T-bar.
In the accompanying drawings, there is shown, by way of example, various embodiments.
Fig.- 1 is a section, with cutaway, showing one embodiment of a support device in assembly with a support surface, a T-bar and the panels carried by the device; Fig. 2 is a cross-section showing the positive support device according to FIG. 1 during assembly with a T bar;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the support device according to FIGS. 1 and 2 alone; Fig. 4 shows an assembly with a second embodiment of a support device; Fig. 5 shows a detail of a third variant;
Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing one way of using the claw on a corner installation, and FIG. 7 is a perspective view of a flange shown in FIG. 6.
The support means shown in these drawings is suitable for being used in conjunction with strips of fur 1, in the form of T bars, which are used to support perforated metal panels 2 covering a material. 3 sound absorbing. The sound absorbing material, 3, and the perforated metal cladding panels 2 are usually mounted on a wall or ceiling surface, or on the brackets for a wall or ceiling surface. -The perforated metal panels 2 thus constitute the exposed surface -from the room to the bedroom and it is therefore necessary that they be exactly aligned in order to present a plane appearance to the eye.
The support, which may be a plastered surface or a wood, concrete, or other surface, or which may consist of spaced wood, steel or concrete beams or other construction, usually has a regular ir surface.
Tile-shaped units employed in establishing a new surface on said substrate must be properly leveled or aligned to present to the eye a regular appearance and the construction described and shown herein. offer a, say positive. which, while making it possible to obtain this result quickly and easily, is also simple and easy to install.
In the accompanying drawings: 4 represents any ceiling, wall, or other support element that it is desired to cover with sound absorbing material, 3, which in turn is covered with perforated metal panels 2 which are supported by strips of fur 1 in the form of T-bars. The means for supporting the strips of fur 1 comprises a suspension element and a claw which are shown separately in FIG. 3 and, installed in place, in fig. 1.
The suspension element consists of a threaded rod or screw 5, of varying length according to the requirements of the job. If the screw is to be anchored in a plastered ceiling, or other relatively thin supporting surface, 4, as the anchoring piece, in the ordinary manner, the
an elbow hinge cleat, 6, as shown in fig. 1 to 4. If the screw is to be anchored in concrete, a threaded expansion plug, 7, of conventional arrangement, can be used, as shown in fig. 5. In the preferred embodiment, an adjustment device consists of a threaded adjustment plate 8 threaded over the screw 5 and screwed against the surface 4, as shown in FIG. 2. This plate can be sheet metal. Between the adjustment plate 8 and, the head of the screw 5 is located there. claw 9 between which and said screw head is a washer 10.
The claw may be, of the arrangement shown in FIGS. 2 @and 3. It comprises a sheet of sheet metal with a U section, the core of which is hollowed out, at 9a, by stamping or pushing the metal transversely and from - inside out, - as shown, to rai dir the claw and give room for the screw head and the washer. In the re pushed part 9a there is, for the screw.
5, a hole 5a which is preferably in the form of a slit to allow lateral adjustment of the. claw. The wings 11 of the claw: are provided with flanges 12, or other means formed at their ends, for a purpose explained below. By screwing @or unscrewing the screw 5 in the cleat 6, the claw 9 can be placed in alignment with the other claws mounted in the support surface. During this operation, the plate 8 firmly holds the screw 5 in position against the pressure of the screwdriver or other tool which is used to adjust the screw.
When a suspension element is mounted and adjusted on a support surface as has just been explained, the fur strip 1 is placed in the claw 9 as shown in FIG. 2. Then engage suitable pincers, 13, with the wings 11 @of the claw, above the edges 12, and the pincers are closed. The wings 11 are thereby folded inwards, as shown in fig. 1, the flanges 12 exerting a pulling action causing the claw to tightly grip the bar at T 1.
We attach after that the; perforated metal panels 2 with fur strips in the known manner.
In 'the embodiment shown in FIG. 4, an adjustment device consisting of a piece of spring steel, 1.4, threaded onto a screw 5 is used instead of the adjustment plate 8. The branches, made of spring steel, come out of the piece 14 maintain a stable pressure on the claw 9 and thus allow: this even to screw the screw 5 in any position.
When using a plug 7 as an anchoring part (fig. 5), the plate 8 or the group 14 can be omitted entirely.
In the @cae where the T-bar 1 is to be mounted on a support member constituted by a corner post or other angular formation 15, advantageously use is made of a steel flange 16, shown in FIGS. 6 and 7.
This flange, which can be made of thin, mild steel, can be screwed or bolted, through holes 17, to the column at the desired point to align the claw 9 with other similar claws. The soft steel easily accommodates itself in any position. The claw 9 is then secured to the flange 16 by means of a screw 18 (fig. 7), making use, as in the embodiment shown in fig. 1-3,
an anchoring cleat bearing on the back of the flange 16, itself carried by the corner post 15; @la claw 9 is provided, as in the previous examples, with a slot and, with a recess in which the screw head is received - and a washer interposed between said head and the claw 9. The bar is attached at T 1 at the claw in the manner written above. The end edges, 2a, of the panels can be -cut and the sound-absorbing material therein can be -removed at the corners for receiving the bar at T, like this is: shown in fig. 6.
Holes 17 and 19 (the latter receiving the screw, 18) may be slits to allow lateral adjustments to be made more easily.
