Phare dautomobile.
Automobile headlight. The present invention relates to an automobile headlight arranged to emit a beam of light rays directed downwards, so as to better illuminate the road and to not to blind oncoming motorists or pié tones.
A this effect the lighthouse comprises a refractive optical device placed in front of the light source and constituted by two half-lenses, simple or composed, at center and placed at different levels, of which the lower half lens is arranged to give the light source a virtual image, that is to say emit a diverging beam, while the upper half lens is set to give a real image, that is to say emit a converging beam.
The two half-lenses can be convergent and will have, in this case, different focal lengths, we can be suitably displaced with respect to each other, so that the light source is between their respective focal points, but one could also obviously use for the lower half-lens a divergent half-lens, while the upper half-lens would be convergent.
The aforementioned refractive optical device can be combined with a spherical reflector, parabolic or otherwise, which can be arranged so to give the light source a real or virtual image placed in the same way as said source with respect to the focal points of the refractive optical device.
The appended drawing represents, to by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 and fig. 2 are respectively schematic views of these two embodiments -, FIG. 3 represents a variant of the construction of fig. 1 with a concave reflector located behind the light source and reflecting the rays from the latter into the refractive optical device.
In fig. 1 of the drawing, L and LI designate two converging half-lenses superimposed, but offset one with respect to the other, and respective focal points F and FI, and 8 indicates the light source which is placed between the focal points F and FI. The lens L gives the light source 8 a virtual image S ' and, consequently, the light beam emitted by the lens L will be divergent ' </ B > and located entirely below the obtic axis common to all the lenses, as shown in the drawing.
The lens LI gives the light source 8 a real image S'I and the beam emitted by this lens will be convergent and located, beyond of S ", beyond below the optical axis It can therefore be seen that the upper light ray of the whole of the refracted beam will coincide with the optical axis of the headlight or very substantially close to it and will therefore be to </ B> at a level low enough not to blind motorists coming in the opposite direction.
In addition, the entire beam being directed downwards, all the light intensity of the headlight will be concentrated on the road surface, which will thus be much better illuminated.
The light source may be constituted by a filament of a incandescent lamp, which will then be rectilinear and di ' placed transversely to the plane of the drawing so that the previous results are preserved. .
In the lighthouse shown in fig. 2, the converging half-lens L has been replaced by a divergent half-lens L 1; in this case, the two lenses L 'and LI can be of the same focal length, the SOUMO lu miner 8 being beyond the two foci which in the case of the figure are merged at F, but which could obviously be distinct.
The converging lens L 'gives, as before of the light source, a real image ff 1, while the diverging lens L' gives a virtual image S ". The beam refracted luminous preseiïf e in a similar way to that of the headlight of fig. 1. On the z3ch6ma of fig. 3, we have represented the upper half-lefltille constituted by two associated convergent lens elements ,.
in order to obtain a stronger convergence and a concave reflector B has also been added which gives the light source 8 a virtual image S "located as 8 between F and FI. The reflector could also be placed so that the light source is in its geometric center., And in this case as we know , 1 * image of the given light source by the reflector would be confused with the source itself.
We can vary at will the convergence or divergence of the two half-lenses used, as well as the position of the position of the 1 position of the source. luminous in relation to to these, to condition of course to have for the lower half-lens a virtual image, and for, the upper half-lens a real image .
