der Brüchig keit den üblichen Beschwerungsmitteln hin zufügen hnd man:. erzielt hierdurch eine ganz überraschend starke Deckfähigkeit. So kann man beispielsweise aus Nitrozellulose, Ace- tylzellulose, Alkylzellulose, A1kyl;
Process for the production of opaque washable playing cards. For the replacement of the white or light colored cardboard from which the playing cards are generally made "by a non-soiling or washable material, the most diverse proposals have already been made. However, it has not yet been possible to find a useful replacement for this purpose to create, because they used for this.
Materials such as thin metal foils, impregnated or lacquered papers, appended fabrics and others differed far too much in their character from the usual card playing cards.
The best results have been achieved so far by using thin sheets of celluloid or celluloid-like materials, which contain such a high content of white or light-colored mineral powders that they look very similar to the cardboard box in their external appearance.
Despite multiple attempts, these celluloid playing cards have not been introduced because they do not meet the most important requirement, the invisibility of the picture. Up to now it has not been possible to produce a usable playing card from celluloid or a similar synthetic material, because such a strong urine permeability for the light rays has not been achieved,
that the card image is not immediately recognizable, or at least when a light source appears in the vicinity of the player, for example when a match flares or a table lamp is switched on.
The reason for this is that, on the one hand, the celluloid-like masses are only able to bind a certain amount of filler, if exceeded. this amount but lose their strength 'and brittle or. easily tearable and that on the other hand the usual filler dyes such as zinc white, lithopone, light spar, talc, magnesium carbonate etc. do not have sufficient coverage.
While there is no difficulty in making sheets of one or more millimeters completely opaque, it is not possible with the usual fillings, even foils with a thickness of a quarter of a millimeter, as they are necessary for the production of playing cards! to take.
Even foils that contain 50% of their weight and more in zinc white are translucent; if you hold it up to a light source, you can see a map image.
The invention consists in using thin sheets of plastic as a base, which contain mixtures of white mineral paints with a high specific weight but low covering power with light mineral powders of low specific weight but high covering power as filler materials and these documents with Map images printed.
Such mineral colors of high specific weight come into question, for example bismuth gychloride, bismuth subnitrate, antimony oxide, mercury chloride, titanium oxide, zinc sulphide, etc.
to add to the brittleness the usual weighting means: thereby achieves a very surprisingly strong covering power. For example, nitrocellulose, acetyl cellulose, alkyl cellulose, alkyl;
cellulose acetate and similar plastics. by adding a mixture of 4 parts zinc white and 1 part titanium white thin plates from 0.2.5 to. Produce 0.3 mm thickness using the usual methods,
which no longer let the light through even from a strong light source. By adding other mineral dyes or soluble dyes to cups, these card mats can be colored in any lighter or darker shade. They can be printed with the appropriate printing inks, without special measures, in such a way that the print adheres absolutely rubbing-proof and rubbing-proof - so that subsequent fixing by painting or in any other way is not necessary.
Cards produced in this way can hardly be distinguished from the usual cards printed on cardboard. They are opaque like the latter, but they meet in terms of strength, especially kink resistance, water resistance and dirt resistance and have the advantage of being less easy to tear and less easy to bend.
The surface of the card documents obtained in this way is expediently matted before printing; This makes it more receptive to the printing inks and allows multi-color printing in the offset process by machine printing without difficulty.
After printing, the matt surface is given a matt or high gloss finish (by calendering or with the help of a polishing press or in another way).
