Process for increasing the wetting and penetration time of liquids to be used in the textile and leather industry. The present patent is a process for increasing the wetting and penetration capacity of liquids to be used in the textile and leather industry, characterized in that heterocyclic compounds and aromatic sulfonic acids substituted in the core are added to the liquids.
It has already been proposed to add aqueous solutions or other dispersions of heterocyclic bodies to the liquids for textile processes and in leather treatment, for the purpose of increasing the wetting and permeability of the liquid.
It has now been found that the addition of aromatic sulfonic acids substituted in the core, in particular sulfonic acids of the naphthalene group substituted by alkyl radicals, can greatly increase these properties of the heterocycles, in particular also of the water-soluble heterocycles such as pyridine.
The sulfonic acids, which are derived from the hydroxylated, chlorinated, amidated hydrocarbons, for example from the naphthols, naphthylamines and chloronaphthalines, have the same effect. But not only is the wetting effect of the pyridine bases increased quite extraordinarily by this addition, but the presence of the pyridine bases also largely promotes the dissolving power of the sulfonic acids for dyes at the same time.
Mixtures of the heterocyclic bases with the sulphonic acids are clearly water-soluble and, when added to the liquids, have a strong wetting property and thus shorten the treatment processes; respectively increase their impact. A suitable preparation is, for example, a mixture of pyridine bases and di-isopropylnaphthalene sulfonic acids. Mono- or di-butylnaphthalene sulfonic acid, for example, can also be used.
It is also possible to use the corresponding sulfonic acids of the hydrogenated aromatic polynuclear hydrocarbons and likewise the hydrogen addition products of the heterocyclic bases.
Some examples are given below: Example 1: 1 kg of tartrazine 0 and 0.5 kg of patent blue A are combined with 1 kg of a mixture of 2e00 g of di-isopropylnaphthalene sulfonic acid and 300 g of polyalkylated water-insoluble pyridine homologues and 20 liters of water mixed and brought into solution by boiling.
This dye solution is added to a liquor which has crystallized with 5 kg of Glauber's salt and 1.5 kg of concentrated sulfuric acid in 1000 liters of water. Example 2: 2 kg of di-isopropylnaph'taline sulfonic acid are mixed with 3 kg of a mixture of alkylated pyridines and quinodlines and 5 kg of water. The mixture is added to a carbonizing bath consisting of 1000 liters of sulfuric acid of 4 Be.
Example 3: 3 kg of isopropyltetrahydronaphthalene sulfonic acid are mixed with 2 kg of tetrahydroquinoline and 5 kg of water are added. The clear, water-soluble oily product is added to 5000 liters of boiling liquor for cotton (2 B6 strong caustic soda solution).
