Cinematographic apparatus. In cinematography, the practice of advancing the film in an in termittent manner has given rise to many difficulties such as wear of the film, due to sudden pulls at the location of the holes in which it takes. the hedgehog, an instability of the projected image, due to. wear of the mechanism with intermittent movement to advance the film and bring it in coincidence, the unpleasant noise of the mechanism to. intermittent action, and the inability to record sounds continuously on the same film as the concomitant images. The object of the invention is to obviate these drawbacks.
The object of the present invention is a cinematographic apparatus in which a film moves in a continuous manner and an objective is movable in one direction and the other along a line parallel to the direction of the film, the particularity of which is resides in a rotary control member rotating on an axis transverse to said direction to move the objective back and forth and in means for moving this transverse control member both in this direction and in said axis, so as to adjust the goal race.
The lens is preferably actuated by a rotating cam, and the adjustment means are preferably arranged so as to allow adjustment while the mechanism is in operation, thereby facilitating adjustment and avoiding the need for adjustment. to stop the ma chine to be able to carry it out.
By way of example, we have. shown a concrete embodiment of the invention in the accompanying drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a front elevation with arches; Fig. 2, 3 and 4 are cuts along 2-2; 3-3 and 4-4 respectively, fig. l; Fig. 5 is a front view of the cam actuating the lens and Fig 6 is a diagram showing how adjusting the cam transverse to the axis varies the stroke of the reciprocating lens.
In the particular embodiment of the invention chosen here by way of example, the film F passes over the idle roll. 1, through the window 2 driven that it is by a hedgehog 3 continuously animated with a rotational movement by means of gears 4, 5, 6, of the shaft 7, of the pulley 8, of the belt 9 and motor 10. In the case of a projection apparatus, light from a suitable source is projected through the film as it passes, (lifting the aperture 11 of the window and, of there, through the objective 12, to the projection screen. The objective 12 is mounted in a cylinder 13 which slides, along the optical axis, in an outer cylinder 14 .
The mechanism serving to adjust the cylinder 13 comprises a yoke 64 from which descend rods or che-cities, sliding in ears 25 attached to the cylinder 13 (fig. 1). This yoke. Slides along an axis parallel to the optical axis on pegs 15 (Fig. 4). In an opening existing in the middle of the yoke 64 is attached a tube 16 which slides on a stud 17 secured to the frame by a screw 18, so as not to be able to turn in the latter. The stud 17 has a slot 20 for receiving the block 21 secured to the tube 16 by screws 22 (FIG. 2).
An adjusting screw 2, 3 is screwed into an axial hole made in the outer end of the stud 17 and bears against the block 21 which, together with the tube 16 and the yoke 64, is pushed outwards and held against the block 21. end of the screw 23 by the springs 24 surrounding the dowels] 15 (fig. 4). In this way, by screwing the screw 2,3, we bring the lens 12 id from the film and if we unscrew this screw, the springs 24 move the lens away from the film. Due because of the connection at.
slides between the yoke 64 and the cylinder of objective 13, the latter can move back and forth vertically, and the position of the cylinder can be adjusted, along a point on the optical axis, while allowing this cylinder to be slack see vertically. The outer objective cylinder 14 is mounted to move back and forth vertically in the guides 26 (Fig. 1) and a peg 27, as subject to the cylinder 14, rises therefrom through a suitable guide (Fig. 2). ) in which is mounted a spring .2.8 which bears from bottom to top against a clamp 2-9, secured on the.
ankle, to support thereby, partially or totally, the weight of the reciprocating parts. From the objective cylinder 14 descends an arm 30 carrying, at its lower end, two gaets 31 and 3.2, each of which consists of an internal ring secured to the common axis 33 and an external ring rolling on the internal ring. via a ball bearing. The cam which makes the objective come and go vertically via the aforesaid rollers is shown at 34 and is wedged on the shaft 7.
Like this. is shown in fig. 5, this cam has internal and external surfaces 3.5 and 86 with which the rollers 31 and 32 are engaged, respectively, these; surfaces having the desired shape to lower the objective at approximately the speed of the film on the arc of 2,700 indicated at '38 in fig. 5 and then quickly raise it to its highest position on the remaining 900 arc, denoted by 3: 9 in fig. .5.
By employing internal and external cam surfaces bearing against separate rollers, as shown in the drawings, any lost motion between the cam and the rollers is substantially eliminated. The preferred way to cut the groove in the cam is to first mill a groove whose width at the bottom is equal to the diameter of the smallest roller 31, and whose width at the top is equal to the diameter of the largest roller 32 , then neck per in the outer face of the bottom of the groove to form the clearance shown at 40 in FIG. 2,
as well as removing the inner wall from the outer portion of the groove as shown at 41 in FIG. 2, -so that the roller 31 is only engaged with the internal face 35 and the roller 32 is only engaged with the external M face. The shaft 7, carrying the cam 34 and other rotating parts, is journaled in dovetail sliders, 42 and 43, which slide in the frame transversely to the axis of the shaft and transversely to the path. in which the objective 1,2 comes and goes.
In order to adjust the slides in the frame, there is provided, on the slide 43, an ear 4 in which a screw 45 is journalled which is screwed into the frame at 46 (fig. 3) so that by screwing this screw in frame or by unscrewing it from the latter, the cam can be adjusted in a direction perpendicular to the plane 2 \ 2 fig. 1. With the parts in the position shown in fig. 1, 2 and 3, the axis of the. cam is located in the aforesaid plane 2-2 and the vertical travel @of the reciprocating objective is minimum.
As we decenter it. cam, the stroke is increased, as indicated in fig. 6 where 47 indicates the stroke in the neutral position, and 48 the stroke in @ la. off-center position. Naturally, the further the cam is from the neutral position, the greater the stroke and the speed of the reciprocating movement.
The main purpose of this cam adjustment is to adjust the rate of movement of the objective according to the different distances between the latter and the screen or the scene to be cinematographed. Due to the spacing between the film and the lens, the lens must move a little slower than the film and, as long as you bring the projector closer to the screen, the difference in the rate of movement between the lens and the film must be increased. Thus, by adjusting the screw 45, the rate of movement of the lens relative to the film can be varied at will, in order to accommodate it in any position that the apparatus may occupy relative to the screen.
In addition, a variation in the length of the film, due to shrinkage or elongation thereof, can be easily compensated for by the same adjusting mechanism.
Although the decentering of the cam lowers both the upper limit and the lower limit of the reciprocating movement, this up and down displacement of the path by the objective can be easily compensated by a corresponding displacement of the usual support mechanism. of the film, in particular since the opening or window 50 (fig. 2), @ through which the image is projected, is carried by the objective cylinder 14.
The shutter 60 (fig. 3) can be mounted on the pulley 8 by means of pins 61, to intercept the light while the lens moves up and down to pick up the immediately following image, opening it. ture of this shutter having a radial dimension large enough to allow the image beam to pass during substantially all of the downward movement of the lens, in any adjustment position of the cam.
