Flying piston machine with controlled movement of the reciprocating parts. Airborne piston machines would be ideal machines for certain purposes, for example to drive reciprocating compressors, pumps, reciprocating electrical generators, or the like; there. the work is transmitted directly through the piston rod and often even through the same piston and all the elements required in the usual piston machine for power transmission and storage, such as crosshead, push rod, crankshaft, Ge bodies, bearings, flywheel, etc., are omitted.
The direct connection between the power and working pistons also allows the use of the highest piston pressures, high numbers of cycles and piston speeds. However, these significant advantages are offset by a major disadvantage that has limited the practical application of this type of machine to very few applications (Humphrey pump, Worthington pump, etc.). The disadvantage is the irregularity and uncontrollability of the piston play and the resultant. tendency to burn through or to stand still. .
This disadvantage is now to be remedied by the subject matter of the present invention. The invention consists in that the movement of the reciprocating parts of the flying piston machine is regulated by special devices. These devices themselves should not transmit any or only insignificant forces to the outside and only serve to force the complete passage of the stroke path or compliance with the playing times, if any disturbances threaten to cause the moving parts to fall out.
The useful work to be performed by the aviation piston machine, however, is delivered in a known manner from the piston directly to the machine to be driven by it, which in turn is usually a piston machine, and delivered to the outside, for example in the form of compressed air, pressurized water or electrical power.
In order to keep from the device provided for the stroke control according to the invention, lasting and greater forces, suitable means are proposed in a further embodiment of the invention: In contrast to conventional piston machines, in which the flywheel is compensated for at each point in time via the linkage The work developed and required of a stroke creates, in the case of the present new machine (the compensation in whole or in part by the inertia of the reciprocating masses takes place solely
The energy that is not immediately converted from the driving forces is stored in the mass of the reciprocating parts and, with a decrease in speed, is released again at a later point in time during the same piston play, the mass and speed of the reciprocating Parts are therefore to be dimensioned in such a way that, at least with normal load on the machine, the inertia of the same enables work compensation. If, however, a work cycle fails, the special device should take over the acceleration and deceleration of the mass and force the ignition of the piston stroke until the normal operating state is reached again.
The energy for this is supplied by a flywheel or by the motor, which is provided for moving this device (not shown). The support of the movement of the reciprocating parts by a flywheel is therefore limited to the short-lived and rarer ones; Cases of operational irregularities are limited, there is no permanent or constant transmission of larger forces to the outside world.
The organs that adapt the reciprocating movement of the pistons to the, for example, uniformly rotating 'movement of the device, can thus also be constructed and dimensioned quite differently than the power-transmitting crank drive of the normal piston machine, especially as far as parts are concerned acts that are measured with due consideration of bearing pressures and wear.
However, the following must also be observed: If the freely movable pistons of the flying piston machine are left to the action of the forces acting on them when the propellant gases are released, these parts become very specific speeds dependent on their mass and the accelerating and decelerating forces to take. If no force is to be exerted on the devices that control the course of this movement, the movement of the point of application of the reciprocating parts (piston) and that of the control device in the direction of the piston path must also be the same.
This can be achieved better than with a crank drive with specially shaped cam-like elements. If the transmission part is designed as a disc, for example, and the outer circumference is used to control the piston movement, then the disc outline results in a whole specific curve that deviates all the more from a circle (eccentric) depending on the different acceleration and deceleration of the reciprocating Crowds are. If the transmission part is designed in a manner similar to a swash plate drive, the lateral boundary walls must be adapted to the speed curve of the reciprocating parts.
In any case, it allows the contact pressures to be negligibly low in normal operating conditions. Even then, they are still sufficient to drive the control device. In order to keep the control device in steady gear. it will be seen with a flywheel, which, as already mentioned above, also provides the energy for tuition in the event of disruptions. The movement of the control device can also be done by a motor, the speed of which is determined, for example, by special means.
An electric motor, a turbine or a transmission can serve as the motor. By changing the speed, the number of cycles of the flying piston machine and therewith the power of the same can easily be regulated.
The machine is particularly suitable for processing very high pressures. The deflagration or the constant pressure method can be used for fuel mixtures. 142h advantage you will work with high charging pressures. For operational and constructional reasons, this flying piston machine seems particularly suitable for the combustion of coal dust.
In the drawing, three examples of flying piston machines according to the invention are shown in FIGS. 1, 3; and 5 shown schematically in longitudinal section; FIGS. 2 and 4 show working diagrams respectively. Curves to explain how the machines work.
Fig. 1 shows the general structure of a flying piston machine according to the invention. 1 and 2 are the working cylinders, 3 and 4, for example, two compressor cylinders. The pistons 5 and 6, which are combined into one piece, can move back and forth in the cylinders. Their movement is brought about by some propellant, for example steam, compressed air, or a relaxing gas mixture. The work done is received in the form of compressed air from the compressor cylinders, mechanical work is not released to the outside.
If the movement of the pistons also follows essentially freely under the influence of the piston forces, it should also be subject to a certain control by which the stroke distance and stroke time (number of cycles) inevitably (-); are regulated in the event of irregularities. The device used for this purpose consists in the example of Fig. 1 from an eccentric disc 7. which rotates between two bearings inside the piston th rollers 8 and 9 uniformly.
Since this disc transfers no or almost no work, the contact pressures between disc and roller are very small, the smaller the more the movement of the disc circumference adapts to the movement of the free-flying piston. If the piston stays behind, it is taken along by the disc, which is obtained in uniform rotation either by a special motor or by the energy of a flywheel that sits on the shaft of the disc (not shown). The forces occurring here on the circumference of the disk can then be very large, but only last for a short time. High pressure loads can therefore be expected.
In order to reduce the contact pressures to almost zero in normal operating conditions, on the one hand the masses of the reciprocating parts, which the piston presses at a certain speed, must be dimensioned accordingly. On the other hand, a be given such a shape that even with uniform rotation of the disc, the speed of the point of contact on the disc in the direction of the piston path is pale as the respective speed of the piston under the influence of the piston forces.
It should be noted here that a special dimensioning of the so-called harmful spaces of the compressor cylinder can support the piston movement and a certain compensation for the inequalities of the piston pressures in the working cylinders. For general orientation, Fig. 2 shows the pressure and speed curves for the working cylinder and the opposite compressor cylinder for one stroke as a function of the piston travel.
It is for example 11 the diagram of the piston forces of the working cylinder, which is to be operated, for example, as a constant pressure internal combustion engine with high supercharging. 12 is the diagram of the reciprocating compressor; 13 is the working surface of the back-expanded gases from the harmful union space and the recoverable work of the supercharger. In order to determine the masses of the reciprocating parts and their 'respective speed, the entire driving forces and the entire resistance must be applied in a known manner.
The driving forces, which in the present example consist of the pressures of the expanding combustion products, the re-expansion of the air from the harmful space of the second compressor and the boost pressure of the supercharger, are at 14, the resistance line that results from the compression and discharge pressure of the compressor, the compression of the combustion mixture in the second working cylinder and the entire piston friction is given by 15 again.
The surfaces enclosed by the two curves are the working surfaces that determine both the speed 16 and the masses of the reciprocating parts.
This speed curve is decisive for the shaping of the control device for the piston movement. From it, the rolling path can be derived both for a disc, in which the outer contour is used for regulation, and for a disc, which controls the movement of the pistons with its side surfaces.
In general, one will not operate a flight calving machine alone, but several will be built next to each other, where the piston positions are offset by the device so that 'a mass balance is brought about. Such an arrangement is shown in Fig. 3. Here he follows the guidance of the piston movement by means of rollers 26 which abrol len on the side surfaces of a so-called swash plate 24. There are 21 the working cylinder, 22 the compressor cylinder in which the Kol ben 23 move back and forth. The stroke control is carried out by the aforementioned swash plate 24.
At the end of the shaft 25, a motor to maintain the required rotary motion or just a flywheel can be attached (not ge draws). The transmission of the forces in the case of irregularities in the piston movement takes place through the rollers 26, which are conically shaped according to the different circumferential speeds of the .Scheibe towards the inner and outer edge. The conical shape also allows easy readjustment of the rollers. The arrows 27, 28, 29 indicate the direction of flow of the propellant.
If the aviation piston machine is used, for example, as a high-pressure stage of a combined gas turbine system, the air that has been pre-compressed by a supercharger enters the piston compressor at 27, where it is brought to a higher pressure and is used as scavenging and charge air in the two-stroke constant pressure internal combustion engine working cylinder 21 pushed over through line 28. The exhaust gases, which are still highly compressed, but have been cooled to a permissible wet level by the scavenging air, leave the working cylinders at 29 in order to now supply the useful work in a gas turbine.
This arrangement of the flying piston machine can also easily be set up in such a way that the movement of the disk allows almost all of the free flight movement of the pistons. For this purpose, the conical shape of the two side walls is designed so that their development coincides with the flight movement of the pistons. For example, if the disk is an inclined, flat surface, the piston movement it forces is a pure sine curve. In order to obtain a curve similar to the free flight movement, the surface must be arched. Fig. 4 shows the difference between the two cases.
It is curve 31, the speed curve of the piston as a function of the piston away, as it arises with a flat swash plate; 32 is. the speed curve - under the influence of the piston forces. Curves 33 and 34 reflect the associated movements of a point on the disc in the stroke direction.
Fig. 5 shows a particularly favorable arrangement of the power cylinders for the present machine, also for two-stroke constant pressure internal combustion engines. When using high pre-compression and exhaust at high back pressures, very small cylinder dimensions result, even with relatively large outputs. The high pre-compression also causes relatively large compression spaces. Both facts make the double piston arrangement, known per se, in which one cylinder is only provided with scavenging slits and the other is only provided with exhaust slits, particularly advantageous.
There are 41 and 42, the two working pistons that are carried by the common compressor piston 43 ge. 4.1 are .the scavenging slots, 45 are the exhaust slots. The compression chamber 46, in which the injection nozzle einmün det at 47, forms a form that is favorable for the combustion. The inlet valves 48 and the outlet valves 49 of the compressor can be tied outside the cylinder body because, as mentioned above, the compressor should have a certain amount of harmful space and therefore there is no need to relocate the valves in the cylinder walls.
The valves can work automatically, but can also be provided with a controller that is operated by the control device. 50 is the collecting tank for the compressed air, which is used as flushing and charge air for the internal combustion engine. 51 is the container into which the supercharger delivers the pre-compressed air. The exhaust gases mixed with the scavenging air go to the Crasturbine at 52 in order to deliver the useful work there.
