Device for the automatic control of electrical systems with a large control range. In the case of electrical systems with a large control range, which have to be controlled automatically in fine steps, the usual high-speed and rapid regulators are no longer sufficient because their dimensions are enlarged. is not possible for structural reasons or at least would not be economical.
In such cases, it has hitherto been necessary to forego the rapid control entirely and to make do with a comparatively slow control with the addition of servo motors; also, for economic reasons, the regulating devices used could not be made too finely graduated.
According to the present invention, rapid regulation of the finest gradations is possible within very wide limits while maintaining economic efficiency. A quick regulator for the fine graduation is then combined with a further control element for the coarse graduation in such a way that the coarse regulator is automatically activated in both end positions of the fine regulator; the adjustment of the coarse regulator in turn causes the fine regulator to automatically return to an intermediate position, and as a result the drive of the coarse regulator is finally stopped.
To explain the invention, the Ausfüh shown in the drawing is used approximately. According to this, the speed of a motor drive, which can be set by hand within very wide limits, should automatically be kept constant very precisely. The drive motor a is fed in a Leonard circuit by the dynamo b driven by means of three-phase current motor c, the excitation of which can be varied within wide limits for the purpose of speed control of the motor a by the resistor d and the additional dynamo e connected in series with it for connection and counter connection.
Resistance d is used for coarse regulation and is adjusted by the reversible auxiliary motor via a worm feeder f . The motor lt is connected to the constant voltage direct current network g that supplies all the excitation currents and is switched on in one sense or the other by means of contacts 7c when the polarized relay i responds.
The coil of this relay i is connected to the contact segments of the fast regulator na , whose resistors are switched as voltage dividers and connected in a bridge circuit so that in the middle position of the segments between them there is no voltage in their end positions however positive respectively. negative maximum voltage prevails. This fast regulator m monitors the speed of the motor a and is therefore fed by a tachometer dynamo n driven by this motor.
It takes over the fine control, that is to say keeping the speed of the motor a constant by regulating the field of the additional dynamo e in the excitation circuit of the Leonard dynamo b in a positive or negative sense. The voltage supplied by the tachometer dynamo to the fast regulator na can be set manually by means of the control resistor o.
The mode of operation is now as follows: In normal operation with machines that are already warm, the rapid regulator m is sufficient to keep the speed constant by immediately supplying enough excitation to the additional dynamo e in the event of speed deviations in the motor a that it provides the required supply or counter voltage to the field the control dynamo b delivers. In general, the rotary system of the controller m does not reach an end position.
If, however, a significant speed fluctuation occurs in motor a due to any circumstance, or if motor a is to run at a new constant speed, which is achieved by adjusting the resistance, the contact segments of the controller move into an end position, so that the voltage between them reaches its maximum positive or negative value. Then the relay i responds and closes the contact k in one sense or another, so that the auxiliary motor la starts up. At the same time, the additional dynamo e. excited to its maximum value and delivers depending on the supply or counter voltage.
The auxiliary motor h now adjusts the resistance d until the voltage supplied to the speed regulator coil by the tachometer dynamo n corresponds to a position of the regulator segments between the end positions and the voltage supplied by the regulator m is no longer sufficient to cause the relay i to deflect achieve.
This therefore opens the contact 1e and thus stops the auxiliary motor h , and the main motor a now continues to run at the desired speed, the fine control again being performed only by the fast regulator m via the dynamo e.
The drawing illustrates only one of the many embodiments for the invention. In the individual as well as in the overall arrangement, numerous variants are possible, including completely different tasks can be achieved according to the control method underlying the invention. In detail, for example, the following can be changed: Instead of the polarized relay i, two relays can be used, one of which is assigned to the right-hand rotation, the other is assigned to the left-hand rotation of the auxiliary motor la, as is known in multiple controls for electrical railways. Instead of the electrical one, a hydraulic auxiliary motor can be used and controlled by relay i.
The contact segment controller in can be replaced by a controller of a different design. It can be switched in another way. The coarse controller d with drive motor can also be replaced by a high-speed controller for smaller drives and by a step transformer or an induction controller for large AC systems.
In the case of DC motors that are not fed by the LPonardsz = system, the field of the working motor c, can be regulated directly. If the latter is an induction motor, the rotor resistance will be regulated, or the rotor voltage will be regulated by means of a collector machine connected in cascade.
If the induction motor is fed by a special synchronous machine, the regulating devices can act on the frequency of the latter, if necessary by regulating the power supply to the prime mover; or you can influence the rotor resistance respectively through the fine control. the rotor voltage of the induction motor and, thanks to the coarse control, the frequency of the synchronous generator.
But the new circuit is not only suitable for speed control, but also for all other control areas. So above all for the voltage, current and power controls in power plants and networks, also for the control of the power factor in AC systems. In particular, the control according to the invention is suitable for synchronous compensators, which are used to compensate for the widely fluctuating power factor of a network on the unit or to keep the voltage of the network constant between positive and negative values by setting the excitation of the machine.
