Description

Process for the regeneration of base-exchanging filter mass iu
Water softeners.

The Swiss patent no. 57551 be describes a process according to which water of any hardness by simple cold
Filtration through a base exchange
Filter mass is softened to () degrees. Complete softening takes place in such a way that the hard water flows from top to bottom through the base-exchanging filter mass, with the hardness components such as potash, gypsum, etc. passing into the filter mass until it is exhausted. In order to make the filter material exchangeable again, it must be regenerated with a 6 to 8% saline solution, which is in the
It happens that the salt solution is prepared in a salt dissolving vessel.

   after the
Filter material is loosened by backwashing, is the water in the device? up to the surface of the permutite respectively. Filter layer drained. Then you let the salt solution run into the water softener and open a small tap as far as possible. ¯ the saline solution flows through the filter material in about 6 to 8 hours. This type of regeneration of the filter mass requires, apart from the time, a considerable excess of salt, since the salt solution cannot even be used halfway.

According to the regeneration process forming the subject of the present invention, it is possible:
1. To reduce the salt consumption by half, 2. To shorten the regeneration time to around 1 to 2 hours and 3. To completely loosen up the
Filter mass for the entire duration of the
Rain. the ration process.

The method is characterized in that the salt solution flows through the filter material from bottom to top with the aid of a circulation device, the salt solution being filtered at the same time in a dissolving vessel.

While the softening process proceeds in the same way as described above, i.e. the liquid flows through the device from top to bottom, regeneration takes place as follows:
Exemplary embodiment: After backwashing, the water softener is completely emptied using slide a. A 25% salt solution S is prepared in the salt dissolving vessel L beforehand. After slide a is closed, slide b and c are opened and pump d is put into operation, which pushes the salt solution S through the filter material F from bottom to top.

At the same time, by opening slide R, water is allowed to flow in until liquid flows out of c, whereupon slide R is closed. Now the pump d is allowed to run for about 1 to 2 hours, the salt solution S flowing through the filter mass F in a circuit from bottom to top. After no decrease in the concentration of the salt solution S is found, the regeneration process is ended. Slide c is closed and the residual salt solution still in the salt dissolving vessel L is pumped into apparatus A. Pump d is then switched off and valve b is closed.

Before the apparatus A is started up again, the salt solution is, as before, displaced by slide a and washed out until the water flowing out of a no longer contains any common salt. The regeneration is finished and the device can be started up again.
