(fig.
Cigarette box. The present invention relates to a cigarette box, for example of cardboard, paper, etc., made in such a way that cigarettes can be easily taken out.
It is known that in cigarette boxes of the envelope and drawer type, after taking out a few cigarettes, the rest can be freely shaken in them and, as a result, the tobacco becomes loose and the tips of the cigars are damaged. Further, in boxes of said kind containing twenty cigarettes arranged in two rows in the box, it was found that after taking a certain number of cigarettes from the box, the other cigarettes move freely in the box, so that their longitudinal axes are placed pa rally at the opening of the box and can easily roll outside and be damaged.
The box. cigarettes according to the present invention comprises at least one pocket arranged to receive a single row of these garettes with their longitudinal axes located parallel to the opening of the box, at least one slot being provided in one of the wide faces of the pocket to facilitate the exit of cigarettes.
A particular embodiment of the cigarette box may include two pockets, each of which is established to contain a determined number of cigarettes and which are assembled to each other by a part forming an articulation flap, allows both to release the two pockets with their open ends directed one towards the other and which extends across the ends or green of the two pockets when one is ra beat on the other, each pocket being formed of so as to receive a single row of these garettes with their longitudinal axes located parallel to the opening of the pocket and a slot also being formed in one of the wide faces of each pocket to facilitate the exit of the cigarettes.
Several embodiments of the object of the invention are shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 shows a box with two pockets. FIG. 2 shows a plain pocket box; Figs. 3 and 4 show two examples of a means of retaining cigarettes in the pocket or; Figs. 5, 6 and 7 show three blanks for establishing a box with two pockets; Figs. $ and 9 show other embodiments of the cigarette box, and Figs. 10, 11 and 12 show how to set up a box by means of two separate pockets.
Figs. 1 to 4 represent a cigarette box formed by a rectangular strip of paper, cardboard, straw, etc. (fig. 5), provided in the middle of its length with two notches 1 provided in the longitudi nal edges of the strip and having a depth practically equal to the diameter of one of these garettes which are to be packed and of a length equal to , twice the diameter of a cigarette. The notches 1 are arranged so as to divide the strip into two rectangular sections, one of which is situated on each side .d'une central part 2, hereinafter referred to as "articulation flap".
Each rectangular section is arranged to be folded in its middle part 3 - so as to form a U-shaped pocket, open at one end, the openings of the two respective pockets being directed towards one another, as shown in FIG. . 1. The thickness of the pocket is slightly smaller than the diameter of a cigarette. The width of said rectangular section is made equal to the length of a cigarette with a space slightly less than twice the diameter of the cigarettes which are to be packaged.
Each U-shaped con-end pocket is subjected to a folding operation, so that the side tabs 5 of the wide face 6 of the pocket are folded upwards, after which the side tabs 4 at the end of the pocket. pocket are folded up, towards the pocket opening, while the tabs 7 on the other side or wide face n of the pocket are folded down on the side tabs 5 so that they can be assembled by any suitable means of fixing.
One of the wide faces of the cigarette pouch or pouches thus formed is provided with a longitudinal slot 9 disposed substantially perpendicular to the direction of the axes of the cigarettes and having a length slightly less than the length of the pouch. The width of the slot 9 is large enough to be able to insert the finger or the thumb therein in order to push a cigarette towards the opening of the pocket. When the box has two pockets, it is the large faces thereof adjacent to one another when one of the pockets is folded over the other, which are provided with the longitudinal slot 9. Instead of a single longitudinal slot, one could also provide several in the corresponding wide face of each pocket.
Thanks to the fact that the side junction tabs of the pocket are slightly smaller than the diameter of a cigarette, it will be seen that, when the cigarettes are packaged in the pocket, their ends are slightly tightened by the wide faces. of the pocket, so that the cigarettes cannot easily move in them.
Instead of forming the double-pocket box with the rectangular strip shown in fig. 5, it can also be formed using a rectangular strip 12 (fig. 7) having two side panels 10 and 11 arranged to be folded in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the rectangular strip 12 and be fixed along the base edge 13 and on the side 14, so as to form a double pocket box of the form shown in FIG. 1.
When the box is formed with the aid of a blank of the above-mentioned character, it is the two side panels 10 and 11 which are provided with the above-mentioned slot 9 In addition, the double-pocket box can be established, if necessary , by means of two separate pockets 15 and 16 with a contoured end formed in the shape of a U (fig. 10 and 11), each provided with a tab forming a leaf 17 on a wide side of 'a length equal to the double diameter of the cigarettes to be packaged.
The flaps of the two pockets are fixed together, so as to form a double box (fig. 12), in which the open ends of the two pockets are directed towards each other when the box is unfolded, and in wherein the flap between the pockets extends across the open ends of the pockets when one is folded over the other.
In the box of fig. 3, the longitudinal edges of the slit 9 made in a wide side of the pocket are provided with teeth 18 arranged so as to engage between the cigarettes placed in the pocket, the free ends of the teeth being pressed into the pocket. the space between adjacent cigarettes so that they also prevent displacement of the cigarettes when taking an adjacent cigarette.
Instead of the toothing at the longitudinal edges of the slot, the parts 19 (fig. 4) located on each side of the slot 9 can be drilled so as to form tongues 20 which are retracted so that they are inserted. engage in the space between adjacent cigarettes thereby securing the cigarettes in position in the pocket.
It goes without saying that although the above-described embodiments relate in particular to double-pocket boxes, it is possible to provide a box with a single pocket (fig. 2 and 4) arranged to receive a single row of cigarettes with their axes. parallel to the opening of the box, in which case the wing forming part is provided with a side 21 having a length such that with the shutter extending across the open end of the pocket, it can be folded over on a wide side thereof, so as to normally receive the opening formed by the slit in this wide side of the pocket.
The box constructed according to fig. 6, 8 and 9 is arranged so that the part or tongue 22 (fig. 6), which is cut so as to produce the longitudinal slit 9, is arranged to be brought back against the closed end of the pocket and to fit the shape of the latter (fig. 8 and 9) so as to extend flat along the rear wall of the pocket.
In this manner, the cigarettes placed in the box rest on the tab 22 and the cigarettes placed near the closed end of each pocket press the tab in engagement with the closed end of the box.
When all the cigarettes have been taken out of the box except the last, the tab 22 can be pushed in the direction of the pocket opening and then the last cigarette can easily be pulled out of the pocket.
It can therefore be seen that all the material used to establish the box can be cut from a rectangular sheet of material without any waste, and means can be provided by means of which each cigarette can be taken out of the pack without being damaged.
In the example of fig. 8 and 9, the free end of the tongue 23 is curved upwards, so as to extend between the third and the fourth cigarette in each packet, the tongue thus being able to be easily held between the finger and the thumb.
There will thus be obtained a box in which the cigarettes can be placed transversely to the direction in which they are normally placed in the boxes currently in use, and in which the cigarettes are held so as not to be able to move unnecessarily, while being able to move. be easily out of it.
It will be seen that, for a box of the above-described character, the same quantity of material is required as for a box with an envelope -3t drawer, but unlike boxes of this type, this box can be formed on a single machine, while in the case of envelope and drawer boxes it is necessary to form the envelopes on an expensive and complicated machine, and then to assemble the envelopes and drawers on another machine.
If desired, cigarettes can be wrapped in whole or in part in metal foil. The box will preferably be wrapped in an outer folder of thin transparent paper so that the whole forms a tightly closed and compact block-shaped article convenient for sale.
