Process for the preparation of a related disazo dye. It has been found that disazo dyes which have a disazo radical originating from p-phenylenediamine, its homologues, derivatives or substitution products in the middle position and those o-oxybenzenecarboxylic acids in which the p- and o-positions to the hydroxyl group are unoccupied,
as initial and final components, can be converted into sulfonic acid by treatment with sulfonating agents, which show significantly improved properties compared to the non-sulfonated dyes.
The new stain dyes are particularly suitable for cotton printing. In the combination of excellent light, soap and chlorine fastness of the prints obtained with chromium acetate, they surpass all dyes previously available in this field.
The entry of sulfo groups under the conditions given in the example takes place in the o-position to the hydroxyl groups of the salicylic acid residues; if these are occupied, sulfation does not take place.
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of an accompanying disazo dye, which is characterized in that the benzene-1,4-disazosalicylic acid obtainable by the action of the diazo compound from p-amido-benzene-azo-salycilic acid on salicylic acid is sulfated,
one sulfo group in each case in the o-position to the hydroxyl groups of the two salicylic acid residues enters the dye molecules. The dye, which is salted out from a soda-alkaline solution, forms a red-brown powder which is soluble in water with an orange-red color and in sulfuric acid with a red-violet color; Chrome printing on cotton creates a soapy and light yellow orange.
Example: The diazo compound obtained in a known manner from 257 parts by weight of p-amidobenzene azo-salicylic acid is added at 0 to a solution of 160 parts by weight of salicylic acid in 1000 parts by weight of water and 350 parts by weight of soda and the # , uniform paste slowly while stirring with 120 parts by weight of 30% sodium hydroxide solution. The coupling is ended after several hours.
The benzene-1,4-disazosalicylic acid isolated by acidification forms a yellow-brown powder when dry, as a free acid insoluble in water, as a sodium salt sparingly soluble with a yellow-brown color. The solution in concentrated sulfuric acid is red-violet in color.
For sulphonation, 10 parts by weight of the disazo dye are introduced into 80 parts by weight of oleum (20%) with stirring and the mixture is heated to 130-135 ° for 8 hours. The cooled sulphonation mixture is poured into 150 parts by weight of water and the dyestuff acid which has separated off is suctioned off It is dissolved with alkaline soda, salted out and dried.
An orange-red powder is obtained, soluble in water with an orange-red color, in sulfuric acid with a red-violet color. Chrome printing on cotton creates a soap and lightfast yellow orange.
