Process for the production of a nub dye of the anthraehinone series. It has been found that a valuable vat dye of the anthraquinone series is obtained if 1-chloroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid is condensed with β-naphthylamine in the presence of a solvent in one operation to form the acridone.
It is sufficient here simply to heat the starting materials in solvents in the absence of condensation agents, but sometimes the use of condensation agents as well as the use of catalytically active substances are advantageous for the rapid course of the reaction and the yield. The dye is a brick-red powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a yellowish-brown color, and in an alkaline hydrosulfite solution with a brownish-red to purple color. From this solution, cotton is dyed in brick-red tones.
Example 1-: 300 parts of nitrobenzene, 28.6 parts of 1-chloro-anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid and 17.2 parts of f-naphthylamine are heated to boiling under reflux until the formation of the dye has ended is. After cooling, the precipitated crystals are filtered off and freed from the solvent in the usual way. A brick-red powder is obtained in abundant yield.
Example 2: 300 parts of naphthalene, 28.6 parts of 1-chloro antrachinone-2-carboxylic acids, 15 parts of oxalic acid and 17.2 parts of ß-naphthylamine are treated as in Example 1. The cooled melt is freed from naphthalene by treatment with an organic solvent, whereby the dye is obtained in shiny red flakes.
Example 3: 300 parts of trichlorobenzene, 28.6 parts of 1-chloroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid, 8.2 parts of anhydrous sodium acetate and 17.2 parts of β-naphthylamine are heated to the boil until there is no more acetic acid escapes, then 12.4 parts of boric acid are added and the mixture is kept at the boil until the dye formation has ended. It is filtered off with suction after the cold, the dye, as in Example 1, remaining in a crystallized state.
Example 300 parts of trichlorobenzene, 28.6 parts of 1-chloroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid, 24 parts of borax and 17.2 parts of f-naphthylamine are refluxed until no unchanged 1-chloroanthraquinone-2 -carboxylic acid is more available. The further processing takes place as indicated above.
Instead of the condensing agents mentioned in the above examples, others, such as, for example, potassium bisulfate, phthalic acid, benzoic acid, arsenic acid, etc., can also be used.
