Process for the preparation of a new niipen dye of the anthraquinone series. It has been found that a new vat dye of the anthraquinone series is obtained if anthraquinorrdichloro-ketodihydro-1 # 2-thiazine of the formula
EMI0001.0009
condensed with 1 # 2-diaminoanthraquinone and treated the condensation product with an ethylating agent.
When dry, the dye is a yellow powder, soluble in sulfuric acid with a yellow color, sparingly soluble in common organic solvents, soluble in an alkaline hydrosulfite vat with a green color and dyes cotton in alkaline yellow tones.
Example: 7.5 parts of anthraquinone dichloro keto dihydro-1 # 2-thiazine are mixed with 4.8 parts of 1 # 2-diamino-anthraquinone in 80 parts of nitrobenzene with 3.5 parts of anhydrous sodium acetate for 2-3 hours stirred at 140-150 ° C.
After blowing off the nitrobenzene with steam, the yellow-brown reaction product, which melts above 300 ° C., can be purified by recrystallization from high-boiling organic solvents or by digestion with dilute hypochlorite solution. For the pure representation, it is particularly advantageous to fuse the product with 5-10 parts of toluenesulfonic acid ethyl ester at 140-150 ° C. for a few hours.
At these temperatures the ethylating agent does not yet act on the dye, while impurities added are apparently converted into ethylation products, which are easily soluble in ethyl toluenesulfate, where the dye remains in a pure state. In this way, a dye is obtained that dyes cotton from a blue vat in bright yellow tones.
4 parts of the purified reaction product are mixed with 30 parts of toluenesulfo-ethyl ester and the mixture is then stirred at a temperature of 200 ° C. for 7 hours. At this temperature the ethylating agent acts on the dye. The melt is then diluted with fuel and the sucked off and well washed dye is cleaned with hy pochlorite solution.
The ethylated product can also be isolated by pouring the melt into 5-10 parts of sulfuric acid, heating it to 100-110 C for a short time and pouring the mixture onto water. After treatment with hypochlorite solution, a yellow vat dye with excellent dyeing properties is obtained, which dyes cotton in yellow, alkaline shades.
