Process for the production of rollers and rollers with a soft, smooth outer surface In the graphics industry, rollers are used for various purposes which must have a soft, level and smooth outer surface. On letterpress, offset and planographic printing machines, for example, the rollers consist of an eiser NEN core with a coating of gelatin (roller mass), felt and the like. The rollers for offset lithographic planographic printing are covered with leather.
The gelatin roller mass is poured onto the iron core, for which special pouring devices are required. On the other hand, the leather tube is pulled onto the core, which is covered with felt and the like, or a rubber tube is put on. Both of these repetitive tasks are cumbersome and costly. In addition, the rollers of letterpress printing, as well as offset and stone printing, are subject to external influences, which in practice is then expressed in a disadvantageous manner.
According to the method according to the present invention, the manufacture of the roller is extremely simple. It consists in that a hollow rubber jacket with an annular cross-section is tightly connected to a shaft penetrating it and then pumped up.
The accompanying drawing shows, for example, two rolls produced by the method according to the present invention, namely in Fig. 1 the one and in Fig. 2 the other embodiment in longitudinal section.
In the example of Fig. 1, a is a hollow jacket of an annular cross section made of rubber. The same is penetrated by a shaft b, in such a way that the shaft and the hollow jacket match. Said shaft b is drilled through at one end in the axial direction, which opening c is long enough to be able to open into the hollow jacket. A medium, for example air, is pressed into the hollow jacket through the opening c by means of a pump until it has the desired rigidity. A check valve d prevents the compressed air from escaping from the hollow jacket. By means of conical clamping chucks e, the offset ends of the hollow jacket are firmly connected to the shaft b, with sealing between the shaft and the hollow jacket also being achieved.
To the school of the hollow jacket, a leather jacket o is put over the same ge, which is indicated by dashed lines in the two figures. This manipulation is done prior to deal inflation.
In order to give the hollow jacket more uniformity after it has been pumped up, it could also be subdivided into several chambers, for example as indicated by dash-dotted lines in FIG. 1. Said chambers would be connected to one another through an opening f.
Instead of pumping up the hollow jacket by means of the opening c, this could also be done in the same way at g, as shown in FIG. 1 in dash-dotted lines.
In the example of FIG. 2, the hollow jacket sits, which is ordered from a sheath h made of rubber and encloses a closed cavity i between an inner and an outer rubber wall, that is, has a double annular cross-section, fitting on the shaft k. At l, a check valve is arranged, which enables the cavity to be filled with a pressure medium.
The rest of the embodiment is analogous to the example described above according to FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawing.
