Description

Device for learning to swim, increasing the speed of swimmers and can also be used for rescue. The present invention relates to an apparatus for learning to swim, increasing the speed of swimmers and also being able to be used for rescue. This apparatus comprises a maneuver shaft provided with paddles at its two ends and carrying an inflated bladder in its middle part.

An embodiment of this apparatus is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing.

Fig. 1 is a general plan view; Fig. 2 shows separately one of the pallets in plan view; Fig. 3 is an end view thereof, and FIG. 4 a side view; Fig. 5 shows the bladder on a larger scale; Fig. 6 is a part of the maneuver shaft; Fig. 7 is an end view thereof. A is a maneuver shaft, provided at its ends with a stepped mortise B to receive a pallet C hollowed out in D on each face to engage in the corresponding mortise B. The pallets C are fixed to the shaft A at the using a bolt E. To reinforce the pallets C and prevent them from splitting, a rivet E is passed across each of the pallets.

The middle part of the shaft A carries an inflated bladder G of rubber or other elastic material, shown separately in FIG. 5 and provided with a central tube H which is of sufficient diameter to be able to be threaded on the shaft A. The bladder G is provided with a tubing I serving to inflate it through the mouth, using a pump or otherwise; this tubing may be fitted with a check valve. The bladder G is covered with an envelope J, in canvas or other, provided with an opening with lacing M which allows it to be slipped over the bladder and to be tightened on the latter, so as to wrap it well and protect, the K ends of the envelope being shaped so as to be housed in a notch L of the tree A to be fixed there by a ligature.

In use, the shaft A is grasped by the swimmer with the arms and legs extended in the swimming position, after which it can be manipulated to make the paddles work, the effect of assisting the swimmer. in its propulsive movements. The swollen bladder prevents the device and the swimmer using it from sinking.

The bladder can easily be removed from the shaft for repair or replacement. In addition, the different parts can also be disassembled to be housed without bulk.
