Method for producing a mixed coal gas. The invention relates to the Her position of a gas which is suitable as ordinary city gas or for household purposes.
The production of water gas from coal or coke by alternately inflating a fuel column and passing water vapor over it is known. The so-called hot-blowing gas that arises during inflation is usually released unused into the open. When steam is passed over, the water gas is created.
It is also known BEzw. It has been proposed to degas raw coal or the like in a retort and to use the coke or semi-coke that is present in this process in water gas generators. In such a case, the heating means can consist of water gas, the sensible heat of which is exploited in that any amount is withdrawn from the water gas generator and sent unburned through the retort in order to degas the carbonaceous material to be treated within the retort. As a result of this process, a gas mixture is obtained which consists of water gas enriched with distillation gas.
However, this mixed gas contains a large percentage of carbon dioxide (about 30 to 40%), and although it is quite suitable as a substitute for ordinary town gas from the standpoint of its calorific value, it is not particularly valued because of its high content of that extremely poisonous carbon dioxide.
In the method according to the invention, the hot-blowing in the gas generator is carried out in such a way that a gas containing carbon oxide is produced, with the action of this gas on iron oxide and subsequent steam action on the reduced iron generating hydrogen, which becomes a mixture of distillation gas and water gas will be added.
The process can be carried out as follows. Bituminous coal is degassed in a retort with the aid of the sensible heat of the water gas, which is extracted from the carbon-containing coal that is lost during the retorting process
