die Lfitung d juid the publishers c led to the outside world. Simultaneously with the steam flow, and this forms the essence of the present process, in addition to the steam flow, combustion air is introduced into the shaft through the nozzles f. As a result, a small part of the water gas is burned, but the degassing temperature is increased significantly, so that the fuel mass located above the fuel column consisting of coke is effectively and quickly coked with simultaneous action of the hot water gas rising from below.

At the same time, the process offers the possibility of improving ammonia production in particular by slightly reducing the gas quality produced. By blowing in combustion air, not only can the additional amount of heat for degassing the upper fuel column be generated, but it is also possible to increase the amount of combustion air in such a way that the temperature required for degassing can still be maintained when in addition to the combustion air or with the same above the coke column also even fresh, i.e. relatively cold water vapor is introduced to generate the excess steam required for ammonia production.

   The procedure
 EMI2.1
At the same time, above the coke zone generating water gas, both combustion air and secondary steam are introduced in such volume ratios that such a temperature is present as a result of the temperature of the water gas flowing upwards and the combustion generated by the introduction of the air. that the upper fuel column is effectively degassed and at the same time the loss of heat caused by the introduction of steam is compensated. This use of the steam has the further advantage that only a crumbly slag can form up to the vicinity of the injection nozzles.
