Description

Base fabric for hairpieces and process for its manufacture. Most of the silk fabrics or gauzes used for the manufacture of hairpieces have the disadvantage of being messy, of tearing and showing their weft, which deprives them of the appearance of natural, shiny skin.

To obviate this drawback, it has been imagined to color aces fabrics, or even to impregnate them with products based on albumin, collodium, or resinous materials. These products do not give the fabric the flexibility necessary for the proposed purpose; impregnated, they come incousable and often inlavable, although they become dirty and yellow by the perspiration of the epidermis.

The object of the present invention is a base fabric for hairpieces, which does not have the drawbacks mentioned, as well as a process for the manufacture of said fabric.

The base fabric, object of the present invention, comprises a plain fabric or silk gauze impregnated with an insoluble composition based on zinc oxide, linseed oil and amyl acetate, colored with the shade desired and fixed in such a way as not to be affected by humidity. A supple fabric is thus obtained, with a shiny appearance, which does not wrinkle, can be washed easily either with benzine or with soap and which can be sewn by hand or by machine; in other words, the fabric is not altered by the perspiration of the epidermis and lends itself from all points of view to the making of hairpieces for which it constitutes an excellent base, imitating the scalp.

A method of manufacturing the fabric described, given by way of example, consists in preparing beforehand a mixture composed of two parts of zinc oxide in very fine powder, well ground with five parts of linseed oil and three parts of amyl acetate. This mixture is then filtered through a fine cheesecloth and colored according to the color of the scalp to imitate. The colored composition is filtered again, which is spread over the silk fabric or gauze with a brush or a suitable tool for this purpose, in order. that the fabric is soaked evenly. The fabric thus prepared is hung up in a dry or slightly heated place for drying.

Once dry, the fabric is washed in a formaldehyde solution in order to prevent any reaction which could occur on contact with moisture.
