Description

Process for the manufacture of a garnet sulphide dye dyeing the vegetable fiber. The subject of the present invention is a process for the production of a sulphide dye having the property of dyeing the vegetable fiber on a straight bath in garnet shades, perfectly resistant to light and liable to be. chromated without change of tone.

According to the method, the 2: 4: 8-trinitro-1-naphthol in the pure state, formed from dinitronaphthalin.e 1: 5, preadablament, is treated with an alkali metal sulfide. from its iso mother, dinitronaphthaline 1 : 8.

By way of example, the present process can be carried out by the following procedure: 10 kg of this 2: 4: 8-trinitro, - 1-naphthol are incorporated into a molten mixture of 40 kg of crystallized sodium sulphide, 4 kg of sulfur and 8 liters of water. Everything is heated to. a temperature of around 150 C.

A strong evolution of ammonia occurs and the mass thickens. At this moment, the temperature is raised to around 170 'C; the hydrogen sulphide is released and the heating is continued until this release of hydrogen sulphide has completely ceased. The product obtained is then dissolved in 800 liters of water and the dye is precipitated with an acid.

A garnet dye was thus obtained which dyed the plant fiber on a sodium sulphide bath. The shades obtained by means of this dye support the washing powder and are perfectly resistant to light.

The proportions indicated above are given only as an indication and may be modified according to the desired tone.
